Download or read book The City Below The Hill written by Herbert Brown Ames and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1972-12-15 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The city below the hill is a detailed investigation of social conditions in a working class quarter of Montreal during the 1890s. Based on a house-to-house survey of the neighbourhood, this study catalogues and analyses the life of working people after the first years of rapid industrialization. Sir Herbert Brown Ames was one of the first to recognize that urbanization was inevitable and to set about improving the quality of city life. In this study, first published in book form in 1897, he moves towards the concept of urban ecology—the city is an organism defined by, and expressing itself in, a myriad of social and economic phenomena. As an organic whole its well-being depends upon the well-being of all its citizens. Within this pioneering work are the seeds of the town planning and social welfare movements that later tried to change the urban landscape. The city below the hill is crammed with facts and statistical analyses of late nineteenth century urban workers. A landmark in the development of urban consciousness in Canada and of sociological research, it is one of the first major efforts to solve problems that are still with us.
Download or read book The Story of The Streets written by Mike Skinner and published by Random House. This book was released on 2012 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2001, at the age of only 22, the virtually unknown Mike Skinner was signed for a five album record deal. Since then, Mike Skinner has won a worldwide reputation for fusing home-grown hip-hop with the proud British tradition of observational song writing, which stretches from The Beatles and The Kinks to Blur and the Arctic Monkeys. In the multi-faceted guise of The Streets he, along with the likes of his friend and peer Dizzy Rascal, has been largely responsible for giving British rap its own identity, distinct from that of its American influences. Alternating between spells of reckless indulgence and sardonic commentary on his own excesses, Mike Skinner has established the kind of instantly accessible pop persona which only comes along once or twice a generation. Now he brings us The Story of the Streets. Moving chronologically through five albums, and the different phases of his life that they represent, Mike shares personal details of his modest upbringing in Birmingham, as well as the wild extravagances of life in the showbiz fast lane. Personal, shocking and funny; but deeply intelligent, insightful, opinionated and searingly honest - this is a lesson in the making of pop history, narrated by a voice that has informed a generation.

Book excerpt: Retired Astrophysicist and U.S. Black Ops program scientist Dr. Horace Mitchel has been placed on an international government hit list. He's on the list because he's in possession of highly classified information, information that would literally change the world's entire traditionally accepted religious and historical views and destroy the system. He possesses above top-secret information that reveals how we've always had "Visitations" from the negroid looking, black aliens who created us. In his old leather journal is secret information about how these interdimensional entities have assisted by giving us new technology and on occasion intervening in the affairs of men. Dr. Mitchel has detailed evidence that proves that the 1947 Roswell New Mexico so-called alien crashes were faked, to give birth to the lie of "little green men" and flying saucers. His journal holds the proof that exposes how the governments of the world, led by the United States of America, have conspired to never allow the masses to know the truth. The truth is we are not alone and never have been. Dr. Mitchel and the twelve people who eventually join him, go on an amazing journey to where mankind's history really begins. A distant place called Adimowa, which we call Heaven.
