Book Victims and Perpetrators of Terrorism

Download or read book Victims and Perpetrators of Terrorism written by Orla Lynch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-09 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines how both victims and perpetrators of terrorism are relevant to our understanding of political violence. While the perpetrators of political violence have been the subject of significant academic research, victims of terrorism and political violence have rarely featured in this landscape. In an effort to capture the vast complexity of terrorism, and to widen the scope of the agenda that informs terrorism research, this book presents a series of analyses that examines the role of the perpetrators, the experience of the victims, the public and media perceptions of both, and given the inherent intricacy of the phenomenon, how we might think about engaging with perpetrators in an effort to prevent further violence. By considering the role of the many actors who are central to our understanding and framing of terrorism and political violence, this book highlights the need to focus on how the interactivity of individuals and contexts have implications for the emergence, maintenance and termination of campaigns of political violence. The volume aims to understand not only how former perpetrators and victims can work in preventing violence in a number of contexts but, more broadly, the narratives that support and oppose violence, the construction of victimisation, the politicisation of victimhood, the justifications for violence and the potential for preventing and encouraging desistance from violence. This book will be of much interest to students of terrorism and political violence, victimology, criminology, security studies and IR in general.

Book Tracing and Documenting Nazi Victims Past and Present

Download or read book Tracing and Documenting Nazi Victims Past and Present written by Henning Borggräfe and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-06-08 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After World War II, tracing and documenting Nazi victims emerged against the background of millions of missing persons and early compensation proceedings. This was a process in which the Allies, international aid organizations, and survivors themselves took part. New archives, documentation centers and tracing bureaus were founded amid the increasing Cold War divide. They gathered documents on Nazi persecution and structured them in specialized collections to provide information on individual fates and their grave repercussions: the loss of relatives, the search for a new home, physical or mental injuries, existential problems, social support and recognition, but also continued exclusion or discrimination. By doing so, institutions involved in this work were inevitably confronted with contentious issues—such as varying political mandates, neutrality vs. solidarity with those formerly persecuted, data protection vs. public interest, and many more. Over time, tracing bureaus and archives changed methods and policies and even expanded their activities, using historical documents for both research and public remembrance. This is the first publication to explore this multifaceted history of tracing and documenting past and present.

Book Female Perpetrated Sex Abuse

Download or read book Female Perpetrated Sex Abuse written by Sherianne Kramer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-06-26 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Female-Perpetrated Sex Abuse is a groundbreaking study into gender, sexuality and victimhood. It examines the cultural conditions of possibility for FSA victimhood as a means to advance contemporary critical understandings of the role of gender and sexuality as instruments of modern power. As the first direct exploration of FSA victimhood, this book analyses: why victims of FSA remain so underexplored and invisible as objects of human science knowledge; the limited and overly rigid discourses in local and global psychological theory and practice that continues to treat particular subjects as ‘victim worthy’ through paradigms that construct victimhood as gendered; and the possibility of new discourses that could disrupt normative understandings of gender, sexuality, and power in sex abuse, and as constitutive to the beginnings of a counter-knowledge on transgressive sexualities. By tracing the historical and cultural conditions of the emergence of FSA broadly and FSA victimhood specifically, Kramer illustrates how deeply engrained constructions of gender and sexuality both produce and constrain the possibilities for reporting, disclosing and self-identifying victimhood. Female-Perpetrated Sex Abuse is essential reading for academics, researchers and students alike, in the areas of psychology, sociology, gender studies, criminology, counselling and social work.

Book Oz mosis An Essential Grail Curriculum

Download or read book Oz mosis An Essential Grail Curriculum written by Sean Melbourne and published by Sean Melbourne. This book was released on 2024-07-29 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are led to believe in today's world of the twenty-first century, that we supposedly live in a civilized world, and that civilization has been around and with us for some time. But when in reality, Man's world of industrialization is what has come to prevail, from when this gathered serious pace since the time of the seventeenth century, when we laid down and established the roots and foundation of the rat-race. Where at this time, we promoted money to become God, and when Man's system effectively began to divorce itself from the natural world around us, from what had originally been formed and fashioned by the hand of the glorious creator. For God is of course the creator of Heaven and Earth, and what Man has created by comparison is minuscule, yet we have put so much faith in Man's creation and so little in God's. We continually strive to find purpose and meaning in Man's world, with his technology, gadgets and gizmos, and the supposed gravy train that we are all on; but when Man's industrialization has utterly failed miserably in its attempt to compliment what God has created, because we have failed to understand the Creator and the true nature of his ways. I mean, we have failed to acknowledge that there even is a God! What chance is there for us to possibly fit in to God's Universal Creation, with a thriving civilization upon Earth, that is backed up and endorsed by God's blue chip status and award of sovereignty? With egotism being our greatest Achilles' Heel, that prevents us from seeing the overall larger picture of what God has created, to allow us to fit in as an individual piece of God's Universal Show upon the world stage of Earth! We know how challenging it is to fit a piece of a complex puzzle into place without knowing the overall bigger picture, and this is precisely how it is for us as individuals to fit into God's Universal scheme, without us knowing the overall larger picture first. Oz:mosis paints and provides an essential big picture view, to help us fit the individual little piece of our lives into the overall scheme of God's Universal Creation, for us to become fit and healthy players in God's Universal Show of bringing about Heaven on Earth. Rather than us carrying on in the way of being unfit nonchalant foulers, to just continue to foul and pollute God's paradisaical world, from us having no real respect for the laws and rules of the Creator, and the wonderful world that God has created for us all...in the form of Mother Earth.

Book Contemporary Sex Offender Risk Management Volume II

Download or read book Contemporary Sex Offender Risk Management Volume II written by Hazel Kemshall and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, the second of two volumes edited by Kemshall and McCartan, focuses on responses to sexual offending, and how risk is used by policy makers, stakeholders, academics and practitioners to both construct and respond to unknown and known sex offenders within the contexts of criminal justice, health and social policy. The chapters provide an oversight of contemporary policies, practices and debates within the area to help both professionals and researchers. The collection focuses on emerging areas (crime linkage, predictive policing, sexual offending across borders, desistence, and public health approaches), as well as more traditional topics (multi-agency working, risk assessment, sex offender policies, and treatment). The authors examine how professionals can use multi-agency approaches to prevent sexual violence, and assessing the impact of desistance on framing sex offender management. A bold and engaging volume, this edited collection will be of great importance to scholars and practitioners working reframing traditional approaches to sex offender management in a contemporary fashion.
