Book Towards an Integrated Global Geodetic Observing System IGGOS

Download or read book Towards an Integrated Global Geodetic Observing System IGGOS written by Reinhard Rummel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The international symposium Towards an Integrated Global Geodetic Observing System was an initiative of section II Advanced Space Technology of the International Association of Geodesy (lAG). Ittook place in the building ofthe Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich from October 5 -9, 1998. About 130 scientists from 24 countries participated in the symposium. It was organized jointly by the Deutsches Geodatisches F orschungsinstitut and the Institut fUr Astronomische und Physikalische Geodasie/Technische Universitat MUnchen. The objective of the symposium was an analysis of the state-of-art of geodetic space techniques and an outlook into the possibility of the establishment of a global integrated observing system. In view of the fact that most geodetic space techniques have reached or approach the one part per billion relative precision level the question arises what their j oint and coordinated operation could offer to the study of system Earth. For this purpose the symposium was divided into four themes, i. e. reference system and datum integration, strength and weakness of space techniques, upcoming gravity field satellite missions, and implications for Earth sciences. Each of these themes was addressed by invited lectures of prominent scientists with sufficient time left for discussion. The oral sessions were complemented by poster sessions. A panel discussion at the closing session completed the program.

Book V Hotine Marussi Symposium on Mathematical Geodesy

Download or read book V Hotine Marussi Symposium on Mathematical Geodesy written by Fernando Sansò and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just as in the era of great achievements by scientists such as Newton and Gauss, the mathematical theory of geodesy is continuing the tradition of producing exciting theoretical results, but today the advances are due to the great technological push in the era of satellites for earth observations and large computers for calculations. Every four years a symposium on methodological matters documents this ongoing development in many related underlying areas such as estimation theory, stochastic modelling, inverse problems, and satellite-positioning global-reference systems. This book presents developments in geodesy and related sciences, including applied mathematics, among which are many new results of high intellectual value to help readers stay on top of the latest happenings in the field.

Book GPS Trends in Precise Terrestrial Airborne and Spaceborne Applications

Download or read book GPS Trends in Precise Terrestrial Airborne and Spaceborne Applications written by Gerhard Beutler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings include most of the papers presented at the lAG Sympo sium GPS Trends in Precise Terrestrial, Airborne, and Spacebome Appli cations held in July 1995 during the XXI-th IUGG General Assembly in Boulder, Colorado. The symposium was jointly organized by the lAG and the International Union of Surveys and Mapping (IUSM). The symposium was divided into four sessions, namely (1) The International GPS Service for Geodynamics (IGS) and other Permanent Networks, (2) Spaceborne Applications of the GPS, (3) Kinematic Applications of the GPS, and (4) The GPS and its Relations to Geophysics. The main purpose was to give an overview of the state of the art in 1995 of the applications of the GPS to geodynamics, geodesy, surveying, and navi gation. The call for papers generated a flood of originally more than 70 abstracts; quite a few could be redirected to other symposia, but still 56 papers found their way into these proceedings. We thus conclude that the volume gives a rather complete overview of GPS Trends in Precise Terrestrial, Airborne, and Spacebome Applications in the year 1995.

Book Global Gravity Field Modeling from Satellite to Satellite Tracking Data

Download or read book Global Gravity Field Modeling from Satellite to Satellite Tracking Data written by Majid Naeimi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-10 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a sound theoretical basis for the the different gravity field recovery methods and the numerics of satellite-to-satellite tracking data. It represents lectures given at the ‘Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Autumn School’ in Bad Honnef, Germany, October 4-9, 2015. The emphasis of the school was on providing a sound theoretical basis for the different gravity field recovery methods and the numerics of data analysis. The approaches covered here are the variational equations (classical approach), the acceleration approach and the energy balance approach, all of which are used for global gravity field recovery on the basis of satellite observations. The theory of parameter estimation in satellite gravimetry and concepts for orbit determination are also included. The book guides readers through a broad range of topics in satellite gravimetry, supplemented by the necessary theoretical background and numerical examples. While it provides a comprehensive overview for those readers who are already familiar with satellite gravity data processing, it also offers an essential reference guide for graduate and undergraduate students interested in this field.

Book Vertical Reference Systems

    Book Details:
  • Author : Hermann Drewes
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-06-29

  • Pages : 356 pages

Download or read book Vertical Reference Systems written by Hermann Drewes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Symposium on Vertical Reference Systems (VeReS) was initiated on the occasion of the XXII General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), Birmingham 1999, by Professor Dr. Wolfgang Torge, Past President of the International Association of Geodesy (lAG) and representative of lAG to the Pan-American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH). The idea was to organise another joint symposium of lAG and PAIGH like the previous one held during the XX IUGG General Assembly at Vienna, Austria, in 1991. Good reasons for such a joint symposium were the great success and the ongoing activities of the Project on the South American Geocentric Reference System (Sistema de Referencia Geocentrico para America del Sur, SIRGAS) being sponsored by lAG and PAIGH since 1993. The SIR GAS Project (Working Group I) had presented a continental South American reference frame of 58 stations during the lAG Scientific Assembly at Rio de Janeiro, in 1997. This reference frame was already adopted by several South American countries as the basis for their new national horizontal geodetic datums (SIRGAS Working Group II). To overcome the problems of the heterogeneous vertical (height) datums between the individual countries, SIRGAS had installed its Working Group III "Vertical Datum" in 1997. As the discussion on the unification of vertical reference systems is also going on in lAG and other bodies of science and practice, it was decided to dedicate the symposium to this topic.
