Book Performances des syst mes de communication Ultra large bande impulsions radio

Download or read book Performances des syst mes de communication Ultra large bande impulsions radio written by Jocelyn Fiorina and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time Hopping Impulse Radio Ultra Wide Band (TH-IR-UWB) systems are the object of the studies in this thesis. We first introduce the UWB principles and then propose new signalling schemes together with a synthetic comparison of the performances of different modulation possibilities.A key point in UWB performances is the Multi User Interference (MUI). In the first studies on UWB, MUI was supposed to be Gaussian. We see in our thesis that this hypothesis is not always true and that it overestimates UWB performances. By developing an impulse collision model, we propose a formula allowing a better estimation of the bit error rate. We also reveal a stochastic resonance phenomenon showing the unusual aspect of UWB interferences. Then we perform a detailed analysis of MUI, which allows us to work out the condition of Gaussianity and non-Gaussianity of the interfering signals. This results help in understanding MUI and, thanks to it, we may demonstrate the existence of a trade-off between the repetition factor and the frame length. Finally we propose a simple receiver adapted to the UWB MUI, which performances are greatly increased and may in some cases outperform the prevision of the Gaussian approximation which was considered to be too optimist before.

Book Almost Nothing with Luc Ferrari

Download or read book Almost Nothing with Luc Ferrari written by Jacqueline Caux and published by Errant Bodies. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perhaps the only postwar classical composer to invest avant-garde music with overt eroticism, Luc Ferrari (1929-2005) was one of France's leading composers of the twentieth century, relentlessly experimental while always preserving his keen sense of humor. Ferrari was a first-generation exponent of musique concrète, and made brilliant use of field recordings to develop sensual, proto-ambient narrative that he termed "anecdotal music" or "cinema for the ear." Perhaps the most notorious instance of this approach was Danses Organiques (1973), for which Ferrari recorded the meeting and sexual encounter of two young women, cut with other ambient and music sound. In his final decades Ferrari was championed by David Grubbs (of Gastr del Sol), who brought his music to a postrock audience. Almost Nothing is the first publication on this composer. It alternates Jacqueline Caux's interviews with 14 "imaginary autobiographies" by the composer, offering a lively account of new music's most revolutionary era.

Book Anarchism and the Crisis of Representation

Download or read book Anarchism and the Crisis of Representation written by Jesse S. Cohn and published by Susquehanna University Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Anarchism and the Crisis of Representation is intended to provide readers of literary criticism, art history, political philosophy, and the social sciences with a fresh perspective from which to revisit dead-end theoretical debates over concepts such as "agency," "essentialism," and "realism" - and, at the same time, to offer a new take on anarchism itself, challenging conventional readings of the tradition. The anarchism that emerges from this reinterpretation is neither a musty rationalism nor a millenarian irrationalism, but a living body of thought that points beyond the sterile antinomies of post-modern and Marxist theory."--BOOK JACKET.

Telling the story from various points of view, Sarraute focuses below the surface, on the emotional lives of the characters in a way that surpasses even Virginia Woolf. Always deeply engaging, The Planetarium reveals the deep disparity between the way we see ourselves and the way others see us.

Book Bringing the War Home

  • Author : Jeremy Peter Varon
  • Publisher : Univ of California Press
  • Release : 2004-04-30
  • ISBN : 0520930959
  • Pages : 424 pages

Download or read book Bringing the War Home written by Jeremy Peter Varon and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2004-04-30 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this first comprehensive comparison of left-wing violence in the United States and West Germany, Jeremy Varon focuses on America's Weather Underground and Germany's Red Army Faction to consider how and why young, middle-class radicals in prosperous democratic societies turned to armed struggle in efforts to overthrow their states. Based on a wealth of primary material, ranging from interviews to FBI reports, this book reconstructs the motivation and ideology of violent organizations active during the 1960s and 1970s. Varon conveys the intense passions of the era--the heat of moral purpose, the depth of Utopian longing, the sense of danger and despair, and the exhilaration over temporary triumphs. Varon's compelling interpretation of the logic and limits of dissent in democratic societies provides striking insights into the role of militancy in contemporary protest movements and has wide implications for the United States' current "war on terrorism." Varon explores Weatherman and RAF's strong similarities and the reasons why radicals in different settings developed a shared set of values, languages, and strategies. Addressing the relationship of historical memory to political action, Varon demonstrates how Germany's fascist past influenced the brutal and escalating nature of the West German conflict in the 60s and 70s, as well as the reasons why left-wing violence dropped sharply in the United States during the 1970s. Bringing the War Home is a fascinating account of why violence develops within social movements, how states can respond to radical dissent and forms of terror, how the rational and irrational can combine in political movements, and finally how moral outrage and militancy can play both constructive and destructive roles in efforts at social change.
