Download or read book Performance of Hot Water Panel Heating Systems in High Rise Apartments of the Chicago Housing Authority Classic Reprint written by Selden D. Cole and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Performance of Hot-Water Panel Heating Systems in High-Rise Apartments of the Chicago Housing Authority The Chicago Housing Authority constructs and operates a large number of high-rise apartment buildings for low-income families in metropolitan Chicago. Extensive use has been made of hot water panel heating systems in these apartment buildings with the heat being distributed from central heating plants. Records of fuel consumption over a period of three years indicate that some of the lower values of annual fuel consumption per room have occurred in buildings with this type of heating system. Book Heating by Hot Water

Download or read book Heating by Hot Water written by Walter Jones and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-06-30 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Heating by Hot Water: With Information and Suggestions on the Best Methods of Heating Public, Private, and Horticultural Buildings; Treating on the High and Low Pressure System, Bath Apparatus, Hot Water Supply for Public Institutions The numerous applications, and the increased demand for this work have induced the Author to prepare a Second Edition, the first having been exhausted for several months, the ready sale and the unsolicited and complimentary testimonials, are ample proof that the first edition has been appreciated. One hundred pages have been added, the tables revised, and many useful ones introduced, several articles on High and Low Pressure Heating, Radiators, Duplicate Boilers, Hot Water Supply, and other matters are new, and have not before been published in any book on this subject. The demand for artificial heating for every conceivable purpose, is rapidly increasing, and the number of Merchants, Factors, Ironmongers, Contractors, Plumbers, and Horti cultural Builders who are expected to perform the duties of Hot Water Engineers increases each year. Architects are expected to be thoroughly conversant with all the arts and sciences of the building trade, well posted up in the various systems of lighting, heating, ventilation, sanitation, &c. With these multifarious duties their time for the study of each particular branch must necessarily be limited, to such the information contained herein is specially dedicated. Public Bodies, Town Councillors, School Boards, Guar dians, Churchwardens, and others are frequently at a loss to know what system of Artificial Heating to adopt. Book Hot Water Heating and Fitting

Download or read book Hot Water Heating and Fitting written by William J. Baldwin and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-27 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hot Water Heating and Fitting: Modern Hot Water Apparatus, the Methods of Their Construction and the Principles Involved The scarcity of data as to the theory and practice of warming buildings by hot-water circulation, induced me in the first edition of this book in 1889, to lay before the student and workman in this branch of mechanics as much of the information which I had acquired during more than twenty years practical experience in the art of warming and ventilating buildings as was practicable in a book of this description. The second edition was published in 1890 and the third edition in 1891. These were what are known as publishers editions, no material changes being made in the book, errors only being corrected where they were known to exist. In the present edition however, the entire book has been carefully revised and some new material has been added. The wording and method of expressing and conveying ideas is not that usually adopted when addressing those who have received a scientific training. It is not, however, for professional readers that I have written, but for practical men who are unaccustomed to the abbreviated methods of the mathematician, which, though they express so much in a few brief sentences and symbols, are not suited to the wants of the average workman, or to one who has advanced himself to the position of foreman, superintendent or proprietor by passing successively through the lower branches of his calling. In my intercourse with the mechanic, therefore, I endeavor to speak to him in terms which my familiarity with him in the workshop leads me to think he will not misunderstand; and I am aware from past experience that it is not well to leave much to be conjectured; hence also the occasional repetition of a problem in another and perhaps simpler manner than at first or the illustration of the second example of a simple subject by a sum in figures, or by graphic methods. Book Design Considerations for Hot Water Plumbing

Download or read book Design Considerations for Hot Water Plumbing written by A. Bhatia and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heating water is typically the second largest use of energy in residential and commercial buildings (after space heating and cooling). Despite its resource intensity, the hot water delivery system is seldom an area of significant focus when constructing a building. As a result, many buildings today are built with poor performing, inefficient hot water delivery systems that take minutes to deliver hot water to the point of use and waste large amounts of energy and water in the process. How quickly and efficiently a hot water system can deliver to the point of use require focus on three areas:• Generation: Heaters shall be sized for meeting both the daily requirements and for the hourly peak loads of the occupants of the building. Hot water can temporarily run out if the design is inadequate and will have higher energy costs if the system is oversized. • Distribution: Once heated, the hot water must be delivered to the intended point of use. The factors influencing the distribution efficiency include length of piping between the water heater and a given fixture, continuous recirculation controls, and materials and insulation effectiveness. • Use: Hot water is used by a variety of fixtures and appliances (faucets, showerheads, clothes washers, and dishwashers). Using efficient products such labeled faucets and showerheads that function at lower flow rates will increase the efficiency of the system. This quick book provides a brief overview of and potential design considerations for hot water plumbing systems for residential and commercial buildings.Learning ObjectiveBy completing this module, the reader will be able to:• Estimate the hot water demands based on theory of probability, fixture types and number of occupants;• Understand the hot water generation techniques, type of fuels and heaters;• Explain three primary factors influencing the heater selection: 1) capacity and frequency of use, 2) heater performance and 3) operating costs;• Determine the appropriate sizing of storage water heaters and compare the use of terms - first heat recovery, storage capacity and recovery rate;• Explain the components of centralized hot water system, direct and indirect heating systems;• Explain the basics of hot water distribution in domestic and commercial installations and its relation to water and energy efficiency;• Understand the application of various types of water supply configurations - an upfeed system, a downfeed system, or some combination thereof;• Understand the difference between the direct and reverse return piping configurations;• Compare and contrast the different control options for designing a continuous recirculation hot distribution system and the impact of such choices on water and energy sustainability;• Size the hot water circulator and the piping diameters on velocity and pressure drop criteria;• Understand the different techniques and options for hot water mixing control;• Learn the facts, formulas and good engineering practices pertaining to energy efficiency and safety.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over recent years, heat pump water heaters (HPWHs) have become more readily available and more widely adopted in the marketplace. For a 6-month period, the Building America team Consortium for Advanced Residential Buildings monitored the performance of a GE Geospring HPWH in Windermere, Florida. The study found that the HPWH performed 144% more efficiently than a traditional electric resistancewater heater, saving approximately 64% on water heating annually. The monitoring showed that the domestic hot water draw was a primary factor affecting the system's operating efficiency.

Book Hot Water Supply and Kitchen Boiler Connections

Download or read book Hot Water Supply and Kitchen Boiler Connections written by William Hutton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-27 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hot Water Supply and Kitchen Boiler Connections: A Text Book on the Installation of Hot Water Service in Residences and Other Buildings and Methods of Connecting Range Boilers, Steam and Gas Water Heaters The popular hand-book Kitchen Boiler Connections dealt principally with piping problems and with the connec tions to boilers in the smaller type of residence. While the examples shown in the book which is designed to replace it cover the larger buildings as well, it has been recognized that the former are the more important by reason of their far greater number and therefore the examples of piping construction and connections for small buildings are shown in greater variety. This is considered all the more necessary, as the opportunity for departure from certain standard types of construction are more in small buildings than in large ones, as a rule, owing to greater variety in architectural design. This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moisture control is fundamental to the proper functioning of any building. Controlling moisture is important to protect occupants from adverse health effects and to protect the building, its mechanical systems and its contents from physical or chemical damage. Yet, moisture problems are so common in buildings, many people consider them inevitable. Excessive moisture accumulation plagues buildings throughout the United States, from tropical Hawaii to arctic Alaska and from the hot, humid Gulf Coast to the hot, dry Sonoran Desert. Between 1994 and 1998, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Building Assessment Survey and Evaluation (BASE) study collected information about the indoor air quality of 100 randomly selected public and private office buildings in the 10 U.S. climatic regions.
