Book Performance Measures of Closed loop Supply Chains

Download or read book Performance Measures of Closed loop Supply Chains written by Arshish Rohinton Tarapore and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supply chain management has evolved over the course of history in order to provide faster and efficient service to those companies that follow its principles. As there have been advances in technology and changes in the way business is conducted across the globe, supply chains also have had to change in order to remain effective. With greater attention paid to resource depletion, environmental impact, and waste reduction; the concept of closed-loop supply chains has garnered the attention of managers who look to make their production processes more efficient. Finding ways to judge the performance of these supply chains is critical to managers. By identifying key performance measures, they are able to gauge how their closed-loop process is performing as well as identify areas for improvement.

Book Performance Measurement for Reverse and Closed loop Supply Chains

Download or read book Performance Measurement for Reverse and Closed loop Supply Chains written by Nizaroyani Saibani and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supply chains today continue to have shorter life-cycle products as a result of high rates of innovation. The increasing number of electronic retailing and catalogue sales fulfil the requirement of home shopping. More liberal return policies have been introduced to protect customers' buying rights and at the same time generate more sales. A growing number of environmental regulations are created which involve a wide range of products. All of these circumstances contribute to the reverse flow of products which require manufacturing organisations to strategically manage and deal with the return flows. Reverse supply chains or reverse logistics have attracted the attention of many academics and practitioners and one of the important field studies in this area is of Supply Chain Management. To contribute to the field, this research is purposely carried out to study the performance measurement in reverse supply chains. Reverse logistics networks may be classified into several categories depending on the source of the reverse flow. This research will focus on customer and distribution return flows. The research is significant because there is a gap in the literature and it could help to give companies guidance in managing their reverse supply chains better. Case studies on five companies which include manufacturers and retailers in the UK provide empirical evidence for their practice of performance measurement in reverse supply chains. The research investigates the selection of strategic objectives for reverse supply chains and the impact of product returns' characteristics and the choice of product returns disposition channels. Learning from the performance measurement in a reverse supply chain, the research proposes a three-level performance measurement framework model for reverse and closed-loop supply chains. This framework model provides the decision makers with a formal and systematic approach to select strategic objectives and towards the use of meaningful performance attributes and performance metrics. Subsequently, it offers a practical approach to the decision maker to perform and manage the reverse supply chain more effectively.

Book Modeling and Performance Analysis of a Closed Loop Supply Chain Network Using First Order Hybrid Petri Nets

Download or read book Modeling and Performance Analysis of a Closed Loop Supply Chain Network Using First Order Hybrid Petri Nets written by Imane Outmal and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Green or closed loop supply chain (CLSC) had been the focus of many manufacturers during the last decade. The application of closed loop supply chain in today’s manufacturing is not only due to growing environmental concerns and the recognition of its benefits in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption and meeting a more strict environmental regulations, it also offers economic competitive advantages if appropriately managed. First order hybrid petri nets (FOHPN) represent a powerful graphical and mathematical formalism to map and analyze the dynamics of complex systems such as CLSC networks. The paper aims at illustrating the use of FOHPN to model a CLSC network and evaluate its operational, financial and environmental performance measures under different management policies. Actual data from auto manufacturer in US is used to validate network’s performance under both tactical and strategic decision making namely, Tactical decision - Production policies: Increase of recovered vs. new components, Strategic decision - CLSCN structure: Manufacturer internal recovery process or recovery process done by a third party collection and recovery center. The modularity property of FOHPN has been used in the modeling process and the simulation and analysis of the modeled network are done in Matlab® environment. Unlike other researches on modeling SC networks that focus on evaluating individually cost, operational or environmental aspects, this work shows how FOHPN can be extended to assess simultaneously operational, financial and environmental network’s performance measures at different managerial decision making levels in a CLSC. The results may particularly be compelling for researchers and industrial practitioners who can use the same methodology in evaluating their network’s performance and making educated management decisions based on the performance results and the impact of their selected supply chain and manufacturing strategies.

Book Supply Chain Performance Evaluation

Download or read book Supply Chain Performance Evaluation written by Farhad Hosseinzadeh Lotfi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-02 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors of this book tried to make these experiences available to those interested, considering the experience of several years of training, research, and implementation of projects in the supply chain performance evaluation field. This book intends to identify the current performance and competitive position of that supply chain compared to other supply chains by presenting and reviewing the techniques and models for measuring the efficiency and performance of the supply chain. Determining the performance of a supply chain is a good description of the status quo (what is). Determining the performance of a supply chain is useful for describing the past and present of supply chain processes, and on the other hand, it can be used to set performance goals and initiate the improvement process. To realize this, a strategic framework or model is needed to be able to extract indicators related to the efficiency of the supply chain and design the appropriate model.

Book Supply Chain Management

Download or read book Supply Chain Management written by Ralf Hieber and published by vdf Hochschulverlag AG. This book was released on 2002 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supply chain management is emerging as one of the most powerful logistics management concepts for improving performance across the entire logistics network. Companies that have already streamlined their internal business process are now working to realise further savings by improving the external business relationships within the more and more complex, linked value-adding business processes in logistics networks. Although the benefits of SCM are well-known in industry, until now companies have only put this concept into practice in a limited way. Therefore, the newly developed integral model of collaborative performance measurement in this book will make a contribution towards easing and supporting improvements in supply chain management as well as giving specific guidelines for its implementation. Furthermore, the author provides newly developed key performance indicators that enable the measurement of the performance of co-operation across the extended enterprise in a supply chain environment. Based on case studies, the integral model, in close connection to the SCOR model, was applied and has proven its applicability in industrial practice. This book presents a rich variety of concepts and methods for industrial engineers, business managers, engineers and consultants as well as success stories in supply chain management.

Book Performance Analysis and Development of Pull type Production Control Strategies for Evolutionary Optimisation of Closed loop Supply Chains

Download or read book Performance Analysis and Development of Pull type Production Control Strategies for Evolutionary Optimisation of Closed loop Supply Chains written by Jonathan Reinholt Jr Ebner and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this thesis is to establish a Closed-Loop Supply Chain (CLSC) design that is analysed through a series of simulation models, aimed at defining the highest performing production control strategy, whilst considering multiple related variables on both the forward and reverse flow of materials in manufacturing environments. Due to its stochastic nature, the reverse logistics side of the CLSC represents an increased source of variance for the inventory management and control strategies as it implies the erratic supply of returned materials, in addition to the very random customer demand, hence with highly variable inputs on both sides of the productive system, intrinsically inherent to this line of research. To test the operational performance of several pull-type production control strategies, a simulation-based research method was designed. The strategies experimented were: Hybrid Extended Kanban CONWIP special case (HEKC-II), Hybrid Kanban CONWIP (HKC), Dynamic Allocation Hybrid Extended Kanban CONWIP special case (DNC HEKC-II) and Dynamic Allocation Hybrid Kanban CONWIP (DNC HKC). All were tested in scenarios with high and low processing time variability and with 90% returned products and 40% returns from an open market system, therefore totaling 16 simulation models. Multi-objective evolutionary algorithms were utilised to generate the Pareto-optimum performance frontier with the objective of simultaneously minimising both performance metrics: The overall average work in progress (WIP) and the average backlog queue length (BL) for the entire CLSC. Processes used in the recovery and recycling of end of life manufactured goods were examined. This research method structures leading factors towards improved economic viability and sustainability of technologies required for the effective implementation of inventory control strategies on highly complex closed-loop supply chains with the focus on the performance metrics and optimum utilisation of resources available for the industry. The dynamic allocation strategies proved significant performance improvement, shifting the entire Pareto frontier forward with major advances on both metrics. Furthermore, it happened on all scenarios tested. The modified HEKC-II, with an optimisable parameter that enables it to be overwritten in a way that it can match the well-established HKC, also performed as originally intended and had better results than HKC in some cases, especially with the higher variability level. It also provided grounds for the suggested improvements and flexibilisation of the HEKC strategy. A major contribution of this thesis was the successful implementation of another advanced control methodology, entitled here the Intelligent Self-Designing Production Control Strategy, which provided maximum control performance. It consisted essentially of DNC HEKC-II with the following modifications: I) Extensive increase of dynamically allocated authorisation cards; II) Further anticipation of the time to trigger the change in the number of cards according to the finished goods buffer level, plus an acceleration/deceleration factor of this change; III) The capability of downsizing itself to become similar to HKC in an optimisation process if diverse production system conditions and variability would require. It displayed a very significant shift of the performance frontier.
