Book Architecture and Protocols for High Speed Networks

Download or read book Architecture and Protocols for High Speed Networks written by Otto Spaniol and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multimedia data streams will form a major part of the new generation of applications in high-speed networks. Continuous media streams, however, require transmission with guaranteed performance. In addition, many multimedia applications will require peer-to-multipeer communication. Guaranteed performance can only be provided with resource reservation in the network, and efficient multipeer communication must be based on multicast support in the lower layers of the network. Architecture and Protocols for High-Speed Networks focuses on techniques for building the networks that will meet the needs of these multimedia applications. In particular two areas of current research interest in such communication systems are covered in depth. These are the protocol related aspects, such as switched networks, ATM, MAC layer, network and transport layer; and the services and applications. Architecture and Protocols for High-Speed Networks contains contributions from leading world experts, giving the most up-to-date research available. It is an essential reference for all professionals, engineers and researchers working in the area of high-speed networks.

Book Performance of Distributed Systems and Integrated Communication Networks

Download or read book Performance of Distributed Systems and Integrated Communication Networks written by T. Hasegawa and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores new analytical techniques and tools for the performance evaluation of distributed and integrated computer communication systems. The systems considered are those arising in LAN, MAN, WAN broadband ISDN, and ATM switching. These systems are mathematically modelled and analysed. Analytical results are presented on the basic queueing models such as multi-queue, priority queue, queueing network, queue with bursty input and superposed input, and multi-server queue. These results can be usefully applied for the performance evaluation of all the above systems.

Book High Performance Networking IV

Download or read book High Performance Networking IV written by A. Danthine and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1993 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring the increase of performance of networked equipment made possible by new communication supports, this publication should be of particular interest to engineers, computer scientists, EDP managers, R&D professionals, and other researchers, manufacturers, and operators involved in the telecommunications industry. The first is the multimedia communication systems and, more specifically, the distributed multimedia aspects. The second is the enhanced functions and facilities for the network and transport layers to support the changing application environment and to exploit the new networks already, or soon to be, available. The third area is the search for efficient implementations and for high performance systems.

Book High Speed Networks and Their Performance

Download or read book High Speed Networks and Their Performance written by Harry G. Perros and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1994 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of Information Highways has recently been heralded as the next generation of communication networks. Consensus has it that these highways will be based on ATM networks. However, despite the tremendous progress in the development of ATM technology, there are still many problems to resolve, such as bandwidth allocation, congestion control and quality of service. The emphasis of this publication is on high speed networks and it addresses many of these problems. Contributions, sourced from experts across the field, are organized around the following topics: high speed LANs and MANs, performance of ATM switch architectures, congestion control and error recovery, quality of service, protocols, protocol measurements and implementation, and ATM motivated queueing theory.

Book A Performance Analysis of S a Mac Protocol for High Speed Networks

Download or read book A Performance Analysis of S a Mac Protocol for High Speed Networks written by Greg Watson and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "We present S++, a new MAC layer protocol which offers several features that are desirable for Gbit/s networks. We explain the evolution of the S++ protocol, and describe its detailed operation. Analytical results derived from a queuing theory model are used to verify the behavior of the protocol under certain conditions. We present a number of simulation results which show how S++ offers consistently lower mean sojourn times (system delay) than the DQDB protocol, when used on a folded bus network."

Download or read book High Performance Networks written by Ahmed N. Tantawy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few years, the world of information networks has undergone significant changes that will revolutionize the future of communications. Data rates have reached the gigabit per second range. Optical fibers have become the transmission medium of choice. Standardization activities have very aggressively produced a set of well established standard for future LANs, MANs and WANs. It has become very difficult for computer and communications professionals to follow these rapidly evolving technologies and standards. High Performance Networks: Technology and Protocols provides a timely technical overview of the start-of-the-art in high performance networking. Chapters cover lightweight protocols, high performance protocol implementation techniques, high speed MAC protocols, optical networks, as well as emerging standards, including ATM, SMDS, B-ISDN, SONET, FCS and HIPPI. Professionals, engineers, and researchers in communications and computers, who need to understand the underlying technologies of high performance (gigabit) networks, will find this volume to be an invaluable reference. The book is also suitable for use as a text for advanced courses on the subject.

Book Metropolitan Area Networks

Download or read book Metropolitan Area Networks written by Matthew N.O. Sadiku and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-12-27 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demand for communication networks has increased dramatically in the last few years, creating a need for an intermediate network that operates over a metropolitan area at comparatively high data rates with simple protocols. With some characteristics of local area networks and wide area networks, the metropolitan area network (MAN) technology reflects the best features of both. The motivations for MAN technology include o interconnection of LANs o high-speed services o integrated services. MANs can be used in the following areas: LAN interconnection Filetransfer Distributed processing Remote services Remote login Metropolitan Area Networks provides an introduction to the key concepts of MANs in an easily understood style. Organized into five chapters, this unique book acts as an excellent reference for a beginner as well as for the veteran in the field. Topics include: Introductory and background information about MANs Interworking devices, MAN topologies, and key issues Various popular protocols proposed for MANs Modeling and performance analysis of common MAN topologies Emerging MAN-related technologies such as BISDN, ATM networks, frame relay, cell relay, SONET, and SMDS For a broad understanding of this expanding subject, Metropolitan Area Networks serves as the singular standard in the field.
