Book Performance Modelling and Evaluation of ATM Networks

Download or read book Performance Modelling and Evaluation of ATM Networks written by Demetres D. Kouvatsos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks are widely considered to be the new generation of high speed communication systems both for broadband public information highways and for local and wide area private networks. ATM is designed to integrate existing and future voice, audio, image and data services. Moreover, ATM aims to simplify the complexity of switching and buffer management, to optimise intermediate node processing and buffering and to limit transmission delays. However, to support such diverse services on one integrated communication network, it is most essential, through careful engineering, to achieve a fruitful balance amongst the conflicting requirements of different quality of service constraints ensuring that one service does not have adverse implications on another. Over recent years there has been a great deal of progress in research and development of ATM technology, but there are still many interesting and important problems to be resolved such as traffic characterisation and control, routing and optimisation, ATM switching techniques and the provision of quality of service. This book presents thirty-two research papers, both from industry and academia, reflecting latest original achievements in the theory and practice of performance modelling of ATM networks worldwide. These papers were selected, subject to peer review, from those submitted as extended and revised versions out of fifty-nine shorter papers presented at the Second IFIP Workshop on "Performance Modelling and Evaluation of ATM Networks" July 4-7, 1994, Bradford University. At least three referees from the scientific committee and externally were involved in the selection of each paper.

Download or read book Performance Evaluation of Multistage Interconnection Networks Through Intensive Simulation Study written by Jamie Marie Morland and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This thesis presents a simulation study of Multistage Interconnection Networks operating under various conditions of size, data-transfer methodology, buffering, and traffic distribution. These and other simulation results may be used to determine the effectiveness of Multistage Interconnection Networks in a variety of computer and communications applications. They may also be used to validate analysis and modeling equations and values."--Abstract, p. [iii].

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 32 (thesis year 1987) a total of 12,483 theses titles from 22 Canadian and 176 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 32 reports theses submitted in 1987, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Performance Analysis of Multi Channel and Multi Traffic on Wireless Communication Networks

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Multi Channel and Multi Traffic on Wireless Communication Networks written by Wuyi Yue and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rapidly increasing penetration of laptop computers and mobile phones, which are primarily used by mobile users to access Internet s- vices like e-mail and World Wide Web (WWW) access, support of Internet services in a mobile environment is an emerging requirement. Wireless n- works have been used for communication among fully distributed users in a multimedia environment that has the needs to provide real-time bursty traffic (such as voice or video) and data traffic with excellent reliability and service quality. To satisfy the huge wireless multimedia service demand and improve the system performance, efficient channel access methods and analytical methods must be provided. In this way very accurate models, that faithfully reproduce the stochastic behavior of multimedia wireless communication and computer networks, can be constructed. Most of these system models are discrete-time queueing systems. Queueing networks and Markov chains are commonly used for the p- formance and reliability evaluation of computer, communication, and m- ufacturing systems. Although there are quite a few books on the individual topics of queueing networks and Markov chains, we have found none that covers the topics of discrete-time and continuous-time multichannel mul- traffic queueing networks. On the other hand, the design and development of multichannel mul- hop network systems and interconnected network systems or integrated n- works of multimedia traffic require not only such average performance m- sures as the throughput or packet delay but also higher moments of traffic departures and transmission delay.

Download or read book Performance Engineering of Computer and Telecommunications Systems written by Madjid Merabti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the proceedings of the Workshop on the Performance Engineering of Computer and Telecommunications Systems. The workshop Was held at Liverpool John Moores University, England on the 5th and 6th September 1995. The workshop follows a series organised by the British Computer Society (BCS) Special Interest Group on Performance Engineering. The workshop addressed most techniques and experieI1ces in the Engineering of Computer and Telecommunications Systems that provide a guaranteed quality of service. Techniques such as measurements, simulation, and analytical models and their applications to ATM networks, Multimedia Systems, Distributed Systems, Access and Wide Area Networks were presented. In addition a number of papers dealt with advances in the development of analytical models, simulation architectures and the application of formal methods, stich as Process Algebra, to the specification and building of performance biased computer systems. The book is suitable for systems designers, engineers, researchers and postgraduate students interested in the design and implementation of Computer Systems, Networks and Telecommunications. Many people assisted in the arrangements and success of this workshop. I would like to thank them all and in particular the reviewers. I would also like to particularly thank our industrial sponsors GPT Public Networks Group, Liverpool and BICC Cables, Chester, England for their generous financial and material support.
