Book Performance Analysis of a DS CDMA System Carrying Multirate Traffic with RCMA Protocol

Download or read book Performance Analysis of a DS CDMA System Carrying Multirate Traffic with RCMA Protocol written by Rey Fredy González May and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, users need to have a communication service that allows them integrate voice and data, plus mobility. Cellular communication needs to be improved in its data transmission in order to be a reliable and competitive service as the wire service does. In this work, we evaluate Reservation Code Multiple Access (RCMA) to integrate services in a DS-CDMA cellular system carrying multirate traffic, voice and a data types. The multiuser interfer- ence factor, the probability of a successful transmission given other users are transmitting, and an homogeneous transmission line rate are considered in the analysis. We obtain the capacity of the number of users supported in function of the user type with the highest service quality. We evaluate the system performance in terms of speech packets dropping probability, message loss probability and data packet average delay. We conclude that CDMA system capacity is improved if RCMA is used to control the access medium and it depends of the service quality to provide.

Book Coverage Vs Capacity Analysis for CDMA Cellular Networks

Download or read book Coverage Vs Capacity Analysis for CDMA Cellular Networks written by Hai Jiang and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although it is well known that the reverse link coverage of a cell has an inverse relationship with the user capacity in a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) cellular system, our literature review has found only one published paper that analyzes this important issue and provides some quantitative results. An accurate prediction of cell coverage as a function of user capacity is essential in CDMA network design and deployment, and is therefore of great interest. The results presented by the previous research are based on only one possible approach. Because CDMA is the primary technology being developed for 3G systems, there is great need and interest in further investigation of this issue. Thus, our research objective is to develop rigorous methods for estimating the coverage vs. capacity tradeoff in the reverse link of CDMA cellular systems and to then predict average reverse link coverage. In this dissertation, we first review the basics of mobile communication and CDMA cellular systems. We then describe the instantaneous outage approach used in the previous work to derive the relationship between cell coverage and capacity in a CDMA system and we analyze some of the limitations of this approach. Using this foundation, we develop a theoretical framework to analyze the coverage vs. capacity tradeoff and estimate the reverse-link single-cell coverage for CDMA cellular networks based on a duration outage criterion. We also analyze the impact of multipath fading on the CDMA cell coverage estimates. In addition to single-cell coverage, we also analyze reverse-link two-cell coverage including the impact of soft handoff. Based on this, we also analyze the tradeoff between capacity improvement vs. coverage expansion due to soft handoff. Further, we describe a simple algorithm for designing multi-cell coverage that is useful for planning the topology of a CDMA cell networks. In total, the results of this research provide a comprehensive framework for designing the topology of CDMA cell networks to achieve specific coverage and capacity requirements. Finally, we extend our coverage vs. capacity analysis to include multi-rate services allowed by wideband CDMA cellular systems.

Book Modeling Multi layer CDMA Cellular Networks Augmented with GPS Using OPNet

Download or read book Modeling Multi layer CDMA Cellular Networks Augmented with GPS Using OPNet written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Code division multiple access (CDMA) cellular systems have advanced features, services, and cost benefits over traditional cellular and cordless technologies. Multi-layer CDMA systems provide a way of smooth expansion of coverage through the use of macrocells, microcells and picocells as well as capacity enhancement without the need for additional frequency spectrum. Global positioning system (GPS) is a real-time locating and navigating utility proposed for use here in assisting cellular network quality of service (QoS) management and optimization. This thesis proposes a new handoff prediction strategy: GPS handoff prediction (GHP) scheme in multi-layer CDMA cellular networks. The novel strategy combines the advantages of CDMA soft handoff methodology and QoS oriented multi-layer management with tracking of the real-time mobility and position of mobile stations. A GPS handoff filter (GHF) was embedded in the selector of the mobile switching center (MSC) in the system to filter out potential handoff error. Anew embedded GHP handoff protocol (GHP) within the CDMA IS-95 standard was investigated to support the scheme. A simulation test-bed was developed by the author using OPNet6.0. The simulation results to date illustrate that the intelligent dynamic handoff with the GHP location management can reduce the handoff attempts and actual handoffs.
