Book Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks written by Chansu Yu and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid development of wireless digital communication technology and the corresponding network software systems have created new horizons for communication beyond the Internet realising the connected society. Among them, the field of mobile ad hoc networking is experiencing unprecedented growth in its scale and application diversity. Without requiring the pre-existence of communication infrastructures, a temporary network can be established on demand and disappears when there is no need. Although some basic concepts have been identified and elaborated, the mobile ad hoc networking is still in its early stage of research and development. Multihop communication with dynamic topology caused by mobility poses interesting but unique challenges ranging from the network-layer connectivity problem to the link-layer capacity issue. And, it should not be considered as a natural extension of infrastructure-based networks, such as cellular networks and IEEE 802-11 networks, because it often leads to confusion and non-optimal design choices.

Book Modeling and Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Download or read book Modeling and Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks written by Xiaolong Li and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ad hoc networks are gaining increasing popularity in recent years because of their ease of deployment. In ad hoc networks, Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols are a fundamental element that determines the efficiency in sharing the limited communication bandwidth. IEEE 802.11 distributed coordination function (DCF) is the most widely used MAC protocol in ad hoc networks due to its compatibility with the IEEE 802 protocol suite. Since the release of the IEEE 802.11 specification, many research efforts have been devoted to modeling the performance of this protocol. However, most of studies are confined to the stationary performance with ideal channel. This book aims to release these assumptions and find the impact of mobility and time varying channel on the DCF performance.

Book Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad Hoc Routing Protocols in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks Using NS3

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad Hoc Routing Protocols in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks Using NS3 written by Soumya and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANET) is an emerging technology that brings tremendous technological advancement in the method of communication among smart vehicles. Due to its complex infrastructure and vehicle speed, data routing remains difficult at VANET. A VANET is also considered similar to Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET), and MANET routing protocols can be adapted for VANETs for performance evaluation. In this work, we have selected a real world scenario from our locality with high traffic issues, Nanthoor Mangalore City Karnataka, India and a Map is generated using Open Street Map using SUMO and the MANET routing protocols AODV, OLSR, DSDV and OLSR are evaluated using NS3.

Book Mobile Ad hoc Networks Mobility induced Metrics Performance Analysis and System Design

Download or read book Mobile Ad hoc Networks Mobility induced Metrics Performance Analysis and System Design written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET), a type of self-configuring wireless ad-hoc network, comprises of mobile elements equipped with wireless communication devices. The mobility pattern of mobile nodes and the packet forwarding strategy crucially decide MANET performance. The node mobility leads to time-varying network topology. Conventional routing schemes fails due to the infeasibility to set up the end-toend path before data transmission. The mobility pattern affects system performance through mobility-induced metrics such as contact time and inter-meeting time. These metrics are critical in determining the MANET performance, as well as choosing various scheduling/forwarding algorithms. In this dissertation, we study the effect of mobility patterns on the MANET performance through the mobility-induced metrics, e.g., inter-meeting time. The intermeeting time is typically assumed to be exponentially distributed in MANET performance studies. However, recent empirical results disclose clear power-law behavior of inter-meeting time distribution. This outright discrepancy potentially undermines our understanding of the performance tradeoffs in MANET obtained under the assumed inter-meeting time with exponential distribution, and thus calls for further study on the power-law (or more generally, non-exponential) inter-meeting time including its fundamental cause, mobility modeling, and its effect. We first prove that the finite/infinite domain with respect to the time scale of interest critically decides the exponential/power-law tail of the inter-meeting time distribution. We then show a convex ordering relationship among inter-meeting times of various mobility models indexed by their degrees of correlation, which is in good agreement with the ordering of network performance under a set of mobility patterns whose inter-meeting time distributions have power-law ÃØâ'ƠËœheadÃØâ'Ơâ"Ø followed by exponential ÃØâ'ƠËœtailÃØâ'Ơâ"Ø. Finally, we analyze various characteristics of the re.

Book Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad hoc Routing Protocols by Varying Mobility Speed and Network Load

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad hoc Routing Protocols by Varying Mobility Speed and Network Load written by Nilotpal Dev Sarmah and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most promising network that has emerged from the technology world is the mobile ad-hoc network or MANET. It is a type of multi-hop network. Wireless by nature, MANETs do not have a specific network infrastructure. It is a collection of wireless mobile devices that communicate with each other without the help of any third party backbone like a base-station or a router. It can be hard to imagine how every node in this type of network communicate with one another without having a router. In MANETs, nodes change locations with time, configure themselves and get the information transmitted from source to destination without the help of any router or base station. Hence, for efficient data transmission, it is critical to understand the type of routing that is being used by these networks. Since they have no specific routers to handle these tasks, it can be a monumental task for the nodes to efficiently determine a path to forward and route their packets when they are at constant motion. This research makes a comprehensive performance analysis of the various mobile ad-hoc routing protocols. Over 160 simulation scenarios have been conducted and as many as 6 performance parameters are analyzed and compared in three different scales of network to make it a comprehensive analysis. Significant work is done in this area for more than a decade and researchers around the world have come up with a wide range of results. In this research, the results from previous work are taken into account for comparison and a wide analysis is made to carve out the most efficient routing algorithm under various mobility scenarios. All the major proactive and reactive routing protocols viz. Destination sequenced distance vector (DSDV), Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR), Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) and Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) protocols are compared in three different phases - mobility, speed and network load. Simulation results show that dynamic source routing protocol (DSR) performs the best in small networks while ad-hoc on demand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol performs the best in medium and large networks. Although OLSR fails to cope with the level of AODV, it can be a superior protocol having demonstrated comparable performance to AODV and its proactive nature of routing packets.

Book Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad Hoc Networking Routing Protocols

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad Hoc Networking Routing Protocols written by Lee K. Thong and published by . This book was released on 2004-12-01 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents a simulation and performance evaluation analysis of the various routing protocols that have been proposed for the Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) environment using the Network Simulator-2 (NS-2) tool. Many routing protocols have been proposed by the academic communities for possible practical implementation of a MANET in military, governmental and commercial environments. Four (4) such routing protocols were chosen for analysis and evaluation: Ad Hoc On-demand Distance Vector routing (AODV), Dynamic Source Routing (DSR), Destination-Sequenced Distance Vector routing (DSDV) and Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR). NS-2 is developed and maintained by the University of Southern California's Information Sciences Institute (ISI). Leveraging on NS-2 s simulation capabilities, the key performance indicators of the routing protocols were analyzed such as data network throughput, routing overhead generation, data delivery delay as well as energy efficiency or optimization. The last metric is explored, especially due to its relevance to the mobile environment. Energy is a scare commodity in a mobile ad hoc environment. Any routing software that attempts to minimize energy usage will prolong the livelihood of the devices used in the battlefield. Three important mobility models are considered, namely, Random Waypoint, Manhattan Grid, and Reference Point Group Mobility. The application of these three models will enhance the realism of simulation to actual real life mobility in an urban or military setup scenario. The performance of the routing protocols in varied node density, mobility speed as well as loading conditions have been studied. The results of the simulation will provide invaluable insights to the performance of the selected routing protocols. This can serve as a deciding factor for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) in their selection of the most suitable routing protocols tailored to their specific needs.

Book Performance Analysis of AODV DSR and OLSR in MANET

Download or read book Performance Analysis of AODV DSR and OLSR in MANET written by Asad Ali and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) consists of mobile wireless nodes. The communication between these mobile nodes is carried out without any centralized control. MANET is a self organized and self configurable network where the mobile nodes move arbitrarily. The mobile nodes can receive and forward packets as a router. Routing is a critical issue in MANET and hence the focus of this thesis along with the performance analysis of routing protocols. We compared three routing protocols i.e. AODV, DSR and OLSR. Our simulation tool will be OPNET modeler. The performance of these routing protocols is analyzed by three metrics: delay, network load and throughput. All the three routing protocols are explained in a deep way with metrics. The comparison analysis will be carrying out about these protocols and in the last the conclusion will be presented, that which routing protocol is the best one for mobile ad hoc networks.
