Book The Impact of Family Centered Care on the Perception of Health in Children with Chronic Illness

Download or read book The Impact of Family Centered Care on the Perception of Health in Children with Chronic Illness written by Erika T. Brink and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the current study was to better understand medical provider use, or nonuse, of Family Centered Care (FCC) (Kuo et al., 2012) and how it relates to a parent's perception of the overall health of their child. Children with Special Healthcare Needs (CSHCN) and Children with Medical Complexity (CMC) face additional complexities as they interact and navigate the healthcare system. The present study sought to better understand how medical professionals can help ease the burdens these families face as they seek medical care. This study used archival data from the National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH) to conduct a linear regression. The results indicated parental perception of care contributes to 3% of the overall health of the child. Findings suggest medical providers who effectively utilize the core tenets of FCC may be able to positively influence parental perception of their child's health through the patient-provider relationship.

Book Parents and Teachers Perceptions of Health Needs of School age Children

Download or read book Parents and Teachers Perceptions of Health Needs of School age Children written by Katie Jayne Starns and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: School health professionals have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of children and their families. The healthcare needs of school-age children are numerous. Schools are often perceived as important settings in which to deliver healthcare services to children. This exploratory, descriptive study examines parents' and teachers' perceptions of primary health needs of school-age children. Surveys were distributed to the teachers at and to the parents of children attending an elementary school located in a rural, low-income community in Minnesota. Results revealed that in general, parents' and teachers' perceptions of health problems among school-age children were similar, with colds, upper respiratory infections, and the flu being cited most frequently as health problems. Other key categories of health problems cited by parents included ear infections, poor nutrition, lack of exercise, and obesity. Categories of health problems cited by teachers included poor nutrition, mental health issues, lack of exercise and obesity, and home and environmental conditions. Parents were more satisfied than teachers with the handling of these problems in the community. The majority of parents and teachers were aware of the health services provided in the school. Increased mental health services, increased nutrition education, better dental programs, and an onsite nurse practitioner or medical doctor were some of the services parents and teachers identified as not available in the school but needed in that setting.

Book Child and Adolescent Health and Health Care Quality

Download or read book Child and Adolescent Health and Health Care Quality written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-10-15 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasing public investments in health care services for low-income and special needs children and adolescents in the United States have raised questions about whether these efforts improve their health outcomes. Yet it is difficult to assess the general health status and health care quality for younger populations, especially those at risk of poor health outcomes, because the United States has no national information system that can provide timely, comprehensive, and reliable indicators in these areas for children and adolescents. Without such a system in place, it is difficult to know whether and how selected health care initiatives and programs contribute to children's health status. Child and Adolescent Health and Health Care Quality identifies key advances in the development of pediatric health and health care quality measures, examines the capacity of existing federal data sets to support these measures, and considers related research activities focused on the development of new measures to address current gaps. This book posits the need for a comprehensive strategy to make better use of existing data, to integrate different data sources, and to develop new data sources and collection methods for unique populations. Child and Adolescent Health and Health Care Quality looks closely at three areas: the nature, scope, and quality of existing data sources; gaps in measurement areas; and methodological areas that deserve attention. Child and Adolescent Health and Health Care Quality makes recommendations for improving and strengthening the timeliness, quality, public transparency, and accessibility of information on child health and health care quality. This book will be a vital resource for health officials at the local, state, and national levels, as well as private and public health care organizations and researchers.
