Book excerpt: Un problema non si identifica con la soluzione, ma con una domanda che richiede un ragionamento per la risposta. La tipologia dei problemi qui presentati - per certi versi non originali ma sviluppati in maniera inedita - vuole porre l’attenzione dei lettori sull’utilizzo di strumenti semplici: penna e carta, per l’avvio al pensiero logico-analitico e all’Apprendimento creativo. Per una personale esperienza di docente di matematica e di informatica, questi strumenti appaiono più adeguati a tutti gli alunni e risultano inoltre più facilmente reperibili e/o disponibili. In funzione dell’età degli alunni a cui questo lavoro è diretto, frequentanti la scuola primaria e secondaria di 1° grado, ho utilizzato quesiti che non necessitano, per la loro risoluzione, di “strutture complesse e decisionali” ma solo di “azioni elementari”. L’obiettivo di questi problemi consiste nell’ottenere la quantità di acqua richiesta in uno o in entrambi i contenitori, utilizzando precise azioni, indicate nella traccia. La risoluzione del problema non è univoca, ma la finalità consiste nella descrizione del processo risolutivo. Il format scelto per la risoluzione dei quesiti è caratterizzato prima dall’analisi del problema, attraverso tre fasi: “Situazione”, “Problema” e “Azioni” e poi dalla realizzazione di uno schema denominato “Tabella delle azioni”, formato dalle seguenti colonne: 1) “Step”, dove sono numerate progressivamente le varie azioni effettuate; sono presenti due step, quello iniziale e quello finale, che non sono numerati. 2) “Azioni da compiere”, in cui sono indicate le varie fasi del processo risolutivo; allo step iniziale é associata la descrizione del recipiente da utilizzare, poi si continua con le varie azioni per giungere all’ultimo step in cui si mostra la risoluzione. 3) “Quantità contenuta nei due recipienti”, questa sezione, la più importante sotto il profilo algoritmico, contiene due colonne che riportano le quantità che di volta in volta sono presenti nei contenitori e descrivono il risultato raggiunto alla fine di ciascuna azione. Nella Tabella delle azioni é stata aggiunta la colonna “Blocchi logici” che riporta la semantica vicina al “diagramma di flusso”. In questo modo il docente, se lo vorrà, seguendo la Tabella, potrà illustrare il diagramma di flusso corrispondente, avviando così, il suo lavoro, per una fase successiva, alla programmazione informatica.[1] Tutti questi aspetti possono essere facilmente integrati in un processo d’insegnamento principale – se inseriti in un contesto ludico e creativo, finalizzato alla risoluzione di situazioni – oppure come strumento educativo supplementare, utilizzabile sia in classe, attraverso strategie metodologiche inclusive che si ispirano alla conduzione di specifici laboratori quali: ü Cooperative learning (comprensione attraverso lavoro in piccoli gruppi); ü Flipped classroom (conoscenza attraverso l’inversione della lezione con lo studio individuale); ü Visual storytelling (apprendimento silenzioso, attraverso un mix & match di testo e immagini); e sia da casa in modalità individuale. L’auspicio che questo lavoro nel tempo - anche se articolato su una metodologia non tradizionale - determini nello studente un maggiore interesse, nello specifico ambito logico e in generale verso le discipline scientifiche, specialmente in questi tempi di didattica mista. Practical Thoracoscopy presents an encyclopedic approach to the use of thoracoscopy in the diag nosis and treatment of patients with pleural disease. After an initial chapter on the history of thoracoscopy, the next three chapters of the book are devoted to the general technique of performing thoracoscopy, a topic on which the team of Dr. Boutin and his colleagues write with ample experience. In these chapters they provide detailed de scriptions of how to perform the procedure and discuss the pros and the cons of the different approaches and the different equipment available. The following chapter discusses the complications of the procedure. The next chapter discusses the role of thoracoscopy in diagnosing pleu ral effusions. My own opinion here is in general that, as long as well trained personnel are available, thoracoscopy is preferable to open pleural biopsy, because it is associated with less morbidity and mortality and can be done if necessary under local anesthesia. The following chapter is directed at using to thoracoscopy to facilitate pleurodesis for chronic pleural effusions. With Boutin's method, talc pou drage is performed during thoracoscopy, and certainly, if a thoracoscopy is used to establish the diagnosis of a malignant pleural effusion, it is appro priate to attempt to induce a pleurodesis with talc at the time of the diag nostic procedure.
