Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Remember, what's down inside you, all covered up—the things of your soul. The important, secret things . . . The story of you, all buried, let the music caress it out into the open." When Allegra was a little girl, she thought she would pick up her violin and it would sing for her—that the music was hidden inside her instrument. Now that Allegra is twelve, she believes the music is in her fingers, and the summer after seventh grade she has to teach them well. She's the youngest contestant in the Ernest Bloch Young Musicians' Competition. She knows she will learn the notes to the concerto, but what she doesn't realize is she'll also learn how to close the gap between herself and Mozart to find the real music inside her heart. The Mozart Season includes an interview with author Virginia Euwer Wolff.

Book Choosing Peace Through Daily Practices

Download or read book Choosing Peace Through Daily Practices written by Ellen Ott Marshall and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Choosing Peace through Daily Practice is intended for people who feel both called to and daunted by the vocation of peacemaking. How do we live out this calling in a world that seeks peace through violence? How do we live out this calling in a society that understands peace as the absence of violence, rather than the presence of justice? How do we live out this calling in a time when the daily news reinforces the perception that peace is truly untenable? The contributors, all of whom teach at Claremont School of Theology, argue in their essays that we live out this calling by practicing peace in and through our daily devotions, work, and interaction with others. The first set of essays explores the vocation of peacemaking explains practices language, and highlights the connection between the processes of peace in the world and peace in the home. The remaining chapters describe practices of peacemaking in spiritual life, classroom discourse, congregational ministry, and community interaction.

Book All My Love Louie

Download or read book All My Love Louie written by Judy J. Cain and published by LifeRich Publishing. This book was released on 2022-04-04 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Judy Cain’s parents survived the Great Depression and saved everything they ever had. One could call them pack-rats or say that they had a hoarder starter kit. One day while digging through her parents’ belongings after they both passed away and went “HOME”, Judy, came across some very old letters. All were addressed to June Larson in Minneapolis, MN and were all from Louis Nelson, her sweetheart and future husband. During World War II, Louie had written over 300 letters to June as their love was blossoming. In them he expressed his love for her; his calling and dream of becoming a minister and servant of the Lord; his struggle with stuttering; his seeming lack of faith at different points during the war; and what he felt was an inability to truly pray. He shielded her from the gruesomeness of the war as they fell deeper and deeper in love with each other. She provided the encouragement and support for him to stay strong and true to himself. This book was originally written only for her family and contained only the letters, but it has grown into much more. Historical, contextual information, photographs, poems, scripture verses, and his Unit’s history are all woven throughout the letters to help provide a context and highlight his spiritual struggle to overcome barriers to the ministry and maintain if not grow his faith during frightening and gruesome experiences of the war in Europe. If a man who felt the strong calling of God could overcome his struggles during a war, then so can anyone. God’s power is limitless.
