Book Paul s Pisidian Antioch Speech Acts 13

Download or read book Paul s Pisidian Antioch Speech Acts 13 written by John Eifion Morgan-Wynne and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-06-19 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a review of scholarly work on the speeches in Acts, particularly Paul's Pisidian Antioch speech, Morgan-Wynne sets Paul's speech in the context of the first missionary journey and of the rest of Luke-Acts. In this book he analyzes the structure of the speech, asks whether Luke used sources for the speech, and examines the main theological themes, including the characterization of God and Jesus, the use of the OT, the place of Israel, and the portrait of Paul that emerges. Finally, the author looks at whether the speech sheds any light on the community for which Luke wrote and the problems which it may have been facing.

Book Lucan Perspective on Paul

Download or read book Lucan Perspective on Paul written by Janusz Kucicki and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2022-06-16 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite all scientific doubts regarding Acts, Luke’s writing was and still is an extremely important source for understanding the man who contributed the most (directly or indirectly) to the canon of the New Testament. Luke is the first (known to us) person who recognized the importance of Paul’s life and his mission activities, as well as Paul’s innovative interpretation of the whole Jewish tradition (that can be compared only with Copernicus’ statement) that resulted in a totally new concept of the relationship between mankind and God, where the center of the relationship is Jesus of Nazareth, the Resurrected Messiah for both Jews and Gentiles. Although Luke “did not save Paul for us” because Paul produced many writings on his own, he did however give us a very important look at Paul that balanced the rejection of Paul as the Jewish teacher with his indispensable contribution to transferring the Jewish concept of God into the Hellenistic religions’ systems. Without the Acts of the Apostles, we would have to create a picture of Paul based on his writings, which is quite a challenging task. If the letters of Paul gave us some accounts about Paul’s attitude and thoughts in particular situations, then Luke’s Acts supplies this particular perspective with a deeper evaluation of Paul by a second witness. Luke definitely wants to present to the reader(s) “his Paul”, who does not necessarily have to be unlike “the historical Paul”.

In fact, Martin Luther argued that justification is the doctrine on which the church stands or falls. This comprehensive volume of 26 essays from a host of scholars explores the doctrine of justification from the lenses of history, the Bible, theology, and pastoral practice—revealing the enduring significance of this pillar of Protestant theology.

  • Pages : 330 pages

Download or read book Apostle Paul written by Ralph F Wilson and published by . This book was released on 2019-08-05 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Apostle Paul is one of the most important teachers in the New Testament, authoring a large portion of the New Testament. His life and letters have guided, inspired, encouraged, and challenged the church for two millennia. But what makes Paul tick? The author contends that Paul's essential genius lies in his passion to know Jesus deeply and intimately. We can get ahold of this passion by exploring Paul's life and ministry over the course of 11 lessons. The narrative of the Book of Acts forms the basis of a chronological account of his life, with biographical elements included from Paul's letters. In addition, each lesson examines one or more of Paul's passions and key teachings, and how they can impact a believer's life, values, and commitments today. Some of these include: - Salvation by grace through faith, rather than by strict observance of the Law. - The passion to proclaim Jesus despite opposition and persecution. - Being totally surrendered to Christ, in Paul's words, "Crucified with Christ." - Knowing Jesus intimately -- in a way that surpasses everything else. Initially developed as an online study, this book is ideal for personal spiritual development, use by teachers and small group leaders, and for sermon development.

Download or read book After Emmaus written by Brian J. Tabb and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2021-11-17 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The church's mission does not begin with the Great Commission, but is integrally related to the grand storyline of Scripture." Did the Old Testament simply point to the coming of Christ and his saving work, or is there more to the story? After his resurrection, the Lord Jesus revealed how his suffering, glory, and mission plan for the nations are in fact central to the biblical story of redemption. After Emmaus shows how Christology and missiology are integrally connected throughout Scripture, especially in the teaching of Jesus and the apostles. Brian Tabb explains what Luke 24:46–47 reveals about God's messianic promises in the Old Testament, their fulfillment in the New Testament, and the purpose of the church. By understanding Jesus's last words to his disciples, Christians today will be motivated to participate in the Messiah's mission.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the view of many contemporary scholars, both Jesus and Judaism have been misrepresented by the church for the past two thousand years. Their main point is that Judaism was not a superficial, rigid, and outdated religion, and Jesus did not reject it. In fact, along with his disciples, he remained a Law-abiding Jew his entire life. However, as Christianity developed from a Jewish sect in the first century AD to the official religion of the Roman Empire in the fourth century, the church was transformed, Jesus was redefined, and both Jews and their religion were repudiated and marginalized. In short, both Christians and Jews were deeply affected by what many scholars now call the de-Judaization of Jesus. This book is an attempt to correct the traditional theological and scholarly misinterpretations of Jesus and Judaism that emerged over the first four centuries of the life of the church.
