Download or read book Proclamation from Prophecy and Pattern written by Darrell Bock and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 1987-01-01 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Luke is here presented as contributing to New Testament Christology through his treatment of Old Testament Christological texts. This redaction-critical study argues that Luke's use of the Old Testament is not so much a 'proof from prophecy' as a 'proclamation' that draws both upon prophecies and upon patterns. This proclamation as it is developed in Luke-Acts serves to turn the reader's attention from seeing Jesus as Messiah to seeing him eventually as Lord.

Download or read book An Introduction to the Old Testament Prophetic Books written by C. Hassell Bullock and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2007-05-01 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Old Testament prophets spoke to Israel in times of historical and moral crisis. They saw themselves as being a part of a story that God was weaving throughout history--a story of repentance, encouragement, and a coming Messiah. In this updated introductory book, each major and minor prophet and his writing are clustered with the major historical events of their time. Our generational distance from the age of the prophets might seem to be a measureless chasm. Yet we dare not make the mistake of assuming that passing years have rendered irrelevant not only the Old Testament prophets, but also the God who comprehends, spans, and transcends all time. In these pages, C. Hassell Bullock presents a clear picture of some of history's most profound spokesmen--the Old Testament prophets--and the God who shaped them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 'pivot pattern' is a unique type of chiasmus, a linguistic pattern characterized by an inversion of the internal order of a phrase or passage. The main idea is found primarily at its pivot, while its elements, normally of an uneven number, are distributed on both sides of the pivot in a mirrored symmetry. Klaus undertakes here to compile a 'grammar' of the pattern, and to characterize, exemplify and differentiate its various forms.
Download or read book Bible Matrix written by Michael Bull and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2010-06-02 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever wish someone could give you a big handle on the entire Bible without years of study? Well, this book not only promises to give you that big handle—it will deliver on the promise. You should be asking, how is this possible? The Bible is one story told over and over again, with many variations on the same theme. This structure is the Bible’s DNA. This basic seven-point pattern is the heartbeat of the Creation. It is the cycle of a human day and a human life. It is the pattern of the Tabernacle. It is the process of agriculture. It undergirds the speeches and Laws of God. It orders the rise and fall of nations and empires. It is also the structure of our worship. It is the rhythm of Christ, and it will open the Bible for you like never before.
Download or read book Prophecies in the Book of Esther written by Joseph Good and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-02-14 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patterns, they're everywhere. Sometimes though, unless someone points out the pattern, it can pass by unnoticed. In his book, Good lays out the pattern and then expertly overlays it with amazingly parallel arrangements of the past, and of those to occur. Each chapter of the Book of Esther is set out and described with some detail. Characters are introduced; they're connected to their legacies and linked to events within other books of the Tanach (Old Testament). Customs, history, and lore of the time are taken into account serving to construct the events of those days. Finally, the Book of Esther concludes with a great victory, but the story is far from over. Joseph Good continues to shake out patterns from the world's own current history. Suddenly, prophecies, codes and mysteries overlooked become easily visible. Words in the Hebrew text are seen with new eyes, open to the variances of the letters, their placement and some peculiar features. The satisfaction in reading Good's book is not only his shared insight, but how much it opens understanding in general for the reader, both in this and other books of the Bible. The Creator Most High distinguishes Himself through patterns. Man as a pattern of G-d, the world as a pattern of His Kingdom, and His Word, a pattern of His Way. Just as His patterns are multi-dimensional, Good has brought much to the table for readers to avail themselves of during their own Bible studies. This most recent addition has been updated and includes additional material and illustrations not found in earlier releases.
Download or read book When Prophecy Fails written by Leon Festinger and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-04-01 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study reported in this volume grew out of some theoretical work, one phase of which bore specifically on the behavior of individuals in social movements that made specific (and unfulfilled) prophecies. We had been forced to depend chiefly on historical records to judge the adequacy of our theoretical ideas until we by chance discovered the social movement that we report in this book. At the time we learned of it, the movement was in mid-career but the prophecy about which it was centered had not yet been disconfirmed. We were understandably eager to undertake a study that could test our theoretical ideas under natural conditions. That we were able to do this study was in great measure due to the support obtained through the Laboratory for Research in Social Relations of the University of Minnesota. This study is a project of the Laboratory and was carried out while we were all members of its staff. We should also like to acknowledge the help we received through a grant-in-aid from the Ford Foundation to one of the authors, a grant that made preliminary exploration of the field situation possible.
