Book Introduction to Complex Mediums for Optics and Electromagnetics

Download or read book Introduction to Complex Mediums for Optics and Electromagnetics written by Werner S. Weiglhofer and published by SPIE Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complex-mediums electromagnetics (CME) describes the study of electromagnetic fields in materials with complicated response properties. This truly multidisciplinary field commands the attentions of scientists from physics and optics to electrical and electronic engineering, from chemistry to materials science, to applied mathematics, biophysics, and nanotechnology. This book is a collection of essays to explain complex mediums for optical and electromagnetic applications. All contributors were requested to write with two aims: first, to educate; second, to provide a state-of-the-art review of a particular subtopic. The vast scope of CME exemplified by the actual materials covered in the essays should provide a plethora of opportunities to the novice and the initiated alike.

Book Self Organization in Optical Systems and Applications in Information Technology

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contrary to monographs on non-linear optics this book concentrates on problems of self-organization in various important contexts. The reader learns how patterns in non-linear optical systems are created and what theoretical methods can be applied to describe them. Next, various aspects of pattern formation such as associative memory, information processing, spatio-temporal instability, photo refraction, and so on are treated. The book addresses graduate students and researchers in physics and optical engineering.

Book Dissipative Solitons From Optics to Biology and Medicine

Download or read book Dissipative Solitons From Optics to Biology and Medicine written by Nail Akhmediev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-26 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dissipative soliton concept is a fundamental extension of the concept of solitons in conservative and integrable systems. It includes ideas from three major sources, namely standard soliton theory developed since the 1960s; nonlinear dynamics theory; and Prigogine's ideas of systems far from equilibrium. These three sources also correspond to the three component parts of this novel paradigm. This book explains the above principles in detail and gives the reader various examples.

Book Numerical Simulation and Modelling of Electronic and Biochemical Systems

Download or read book Numerical Simulation and Modelling of Electronic and Biochemical Systems written by Jaijeet Roychowdhury and published by Now Publishers Inc. This book was released on 2009 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical simulation and modelling have been growing in importance and seeing steadily increasing practical application. The proliferation of applications and physical domains for which simulation technologies are now needed, compounded by generally increased complexity, has expanded the scope of numerical simulation and modelling within CAD and spurred new research directions. Numerical Simulation and Modelling of Electronic and Biochemical Systems provides an introduction to the fundamentals of numerical simulation, and to the basics of modelling electronic circuits and biochemical reactions. The emphasis is on capturing a minimal set of important concepts succinctly, but concretely enough that the reader will be left with an adequate foundation for further independent exploration. Starting from mathematical models of basic electronic elements, circuits are modelled as nonlinear differential-algebraic equation (DAE) systems. Two basic techniques - quiescent steady state and transient - for solving these differential equations systems are then developed. It is then shown how biochemical reactions can also be modelled deterministically as DAEs. Following this, frequency domain techniques for finding sinusoidal steady states of linear DAEs are developed, as are direct and adjoint techniques for computing parameter sensitivities and the effects of stationary random noise. For readers interested in a glimpse of topics beyond these basics, an introduction to nonlinear periodic steady state methods (harmonic balance and shooting) and the multitime partial differential equation formulation is provided. Also provided is an overview of model order reduction, an important topic of current research that has roots in numerical simulation algorithms. Finally, sample applications of nonlinear oscillator macromodels - in circuits (PLLs), biochemical reaction-diffusion systems and nanoelectronics - are presented.
