Book Pathology of Solid Organ Transplantation

Download or read book Pathology of Solid Organ Transplantation written by Helen Liapis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-25 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of the progress in diagnostic transplantation pathology interpretation of transplant biopsies is increasingly becoming an attractive field for general surgical pathologists. The book focuses on the pathology of transplantation in the following organs: kidney, liver, lungs, heart, pancreas and small intestine. An introductory section addresses common entities that may complicate all transplant recipients such as infections, post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease and graft versus host disease, followed by 6 sections with detailed manifestations of rejection in each organ. This comprehensive, well-illustrated book serves the needs and meets the requirements of pathologists in training and those practicing in centers with limited volume of transplant biopsies in daily practice.

Book Pathology of Transplantation

Download or read book Pathology of Transplantation written by René P. Michel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-15 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many pathologists find the interpretation of biopsies and other surgical specimens from solid organ, stem cell and bone marrow transplants challenging. Pathology of Transplantation provides a practical structured and logical approach to the diagnostic interpretation of the range of specimens from patients with solid organ, stem cell and bone marrow transplants, including the assessment of native and donor organs, with emphasis on resolution of pathological and clinico-pathological differential diagnoses including the diverse forms of rejection, recurrent and de novo diseases, drug-induced alterations, infections and other pathologies relevant to the system or tissue. In addition, this provides information on some of the critical clinical consequences of pathological diagnoses and guidelines for interaction and effective communication with transplant clinicians thereby ensuring the best possible care to patients with transplants. Pathology of Transplantation provides a relatively simple but diagnostically comprehensive and practical book that the pathologist will keep on hand and pick up to rapidly find answers in daily practice of transplantation pathology.

Download or read book Xenotransplantation written by David K.C. Cooper and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cover of this book depicts a Lamassu, one of the "fabulous" beasts of mythology [1]. Like many similar creatures, such as the Chimera, Griffon, Hippocamp, and Cockatrice, the body of the Lamassu was clearly a combination of structures derived from sev eral different species - in other words, it provides a highly success ful example of xenotransplantation. But in selecting a symbol of xenotransplantation to grace the cover of this volume, why choose the Lamassu in preference to the other ancient beasts? The reason is that the Lamassu appears to have been endowed with a much Fig. I. Homer described the Chimera as consisting of a lion's foreparts, a goat in the middle, and a serpent's hind parts VIII Foreword Fig. 2. The Griffon had the foreparts of an eagle, and the rear, tail, and hindlegs of a lion. Its eagle-like head had pointed, upstanding ears like those of an ass. Feathers grew upon its head, neck and chest, and the rest of its body was covered in leonine fur more benign and desirable character than many of its mythologi cal associates. For example, reliable reports state that the Chimera (Fig. 1) hitherto the animal most commonly selected to symbolize xenografting - killed everyone who came within range of its fiery breath. Perhaps not surprisingly, therefore, the Chimera is vari ously described as one of the "largest monsters ever born," a "sav age creature," and a "symbol of complex evil.
