L'infection à VIH dans ses aspects cliniques et thérapeutiques commence à être bien connue désormais. Cependant les manifestations bucco-dentaires de l'infection à VIH n'ont cessé d'évoluer depuis leurs premières descriptions au début des années 1980. Ce travail s'articule autour d'une étude clinique réalisé auprès de 206 patients infectés par le VIH. La plus grande partie de ces patients étant asymptomatique, cette étude tente d'évaluer quel peut être le profil des pathologies bucco-dentaires que peut présenter ce type de patient en consultation dans un cabinet de chirurgie dentaire. Dans cette étude les principales manifestations bucco-dentaires rencontrées sont les problèmes à caractère parodontal (56,3 %), les aphtes (26,4 %), les manifestations herpétiques (18 %) ainsi que les candidoses orales (13,6 %).De plus, 26,3 % des patients présentaient une xérostomie semblant être induite par le traitement anti-rétroviral.
