Book International Textbook of Diabetes Mellitus

Download or read book International Textbook of Diabetes Mellitus written by R. A. DeFronzo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-03-11 with total page 1200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Textbook of Diabetes Mellitus has been a successful, well-respected medical textbook for almost 20 years, over 3 editions. Encyclopaedic and international in scope, the textbook covers all aspects of diabetes ensuring a truly multidisciplinary and global approach. Sections covered include epidemiology, diagnosis, pathogenesis, management and complications of diabetes and public health issues worldwide. It incorporates a vast amount of new data regarding the scientific understanding and clinical management of this disease, with each new edition always reflecting the substantial advances in the field. Whereas other diabetes textbooks are primarily clinical with less focus on the basic science behind diabetes, ITDM's primary philosophy has always been to comprehensively cover the basic science of metabolism, linking this closely to the pathophysiology and clinical aspects of the disease. Edited by four world-famous diabetes specialists, the book is divided into 13 sections, each section edited by a section editor of major international prominence. As well as covering all aspects of diabetes, from epidemiology and pathophysiology to the management of the condition and the complications that arise, this fourth edition also includes two new sections on NAFLD, NASH and non-traditional associations with diabetes, and clinical trial evidence in diabetes. This fourth edition of an internationally recognised textbook will once again provide all those involved in diabetes research and development, as well as diabetes specialists with the most comprehensive scientific reference book on diabetes available.

Book New Concepts in the Pathogenesis of NIDDM

Download or read book New Concepts in the Pathogenesis of NIDDM written by Claes-Goran Östenson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pathogenesis of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) has attracted the interest of our group during the last three decades. As early as 1969, a Nobel Symposium dealing with this topic was organized in Stockholm. This was followed in 1987 by a Nobel Conference devoted to the same subject. The main purpose of these meetings was to bring together the most distinguished scientists from all over the world and present theories on molecular and genetic mechanisms responsible for the development of glucose intolerance in NIDDM. This idea was followed also in the present symposium, "New Concepts in the Pathogenesis of NIDDM," organized with diabetologists from Toronto in Canada. Our purpose is to biannually organize international meetings covering important aspects of dia betes research, hoping that this type of interaction may result in new concepts and treat ment alternatives. For us, participating in this symposium in September 1992, the meeting in Stockholm was very stimulating and innovative. It is a special pleasure that almost all invited lecturers submitted manuscripts. Thus, the publication of the proceedings of the symposium makes it possible for all interested in diabetes research to share new ideas and findings presented at the meeting. This book was released on 2004-04-27 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although pancreas transplants have been performed for more than 30 years, the last few years have witnessed significant growth in the options available for pancreas transplantation as well as subtantial improvements in outcome. It is therefore appropriate that a new text summarize the recent advances and put forth the standard of future care. Transplantation of the Pancreas, edited by Drs. Gruessner and Sutherland fulfills this mission by providing a state-of-the-art, definitive reference work on pancreas transplantation for transplant surgeons and physicians as well as for endocrinologists, diabetologists, nephrologists, and neurologist. The editors, from the renowned University of Minnesota Transplant Division and the Diabetes Institute, have assembled a group of renowned experts to provide an all inclusive overview of pancreas transplantation. The text features insights on the pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus and the limitations of nontransplant treatments, highlights experimental research and clinical history of pancreas transplantation, and compares and contrasts different surgical procedures. The discussions detail the broad spectrum of posttransplant complications and their treatments, which frequently require skills in general, vascular, and laparoscopic surgery, interventional radiology, critical care, and infectious disease. Chapters on immunosuppression, immunology, pathology, long-term outcome, quality of life, and cost-effectiveness focus on issues unique to pancreas recipients. Evolving areas, such as pretransplant evaluation of pancreas transplant candidates, living donation, and the current status of islet transplantation are discussed. Augmented by more than 280 illustrations, including full color line drawings created exclusively for the text, this book is the standard reference for all transplant professionals as well as all physicians caring for diabetic patients.

Book Diabetes Epidemiology Genetics Pathogenesis Diagnosis Prevention and Treatment

Download or read book Diabetes Epidemiology Genetics Pathogenesis Diagnosis Prevention and Treatment written by Enzo Bonora and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the reader with comprehensive information on the epidemiology, etiology, pathogenesis, pathophysiology, clinical features, prevention, and treatment of diabetes with the aim of empowering health care providers in their daily battle against the disease. Diabetes has been identified by WHO and the United Nations as a medical emergency because of the increase in its global prevalence, which may reach one billion in three to four decades if the trend remains unchanged. Despite improved care that is helping to prolong life, diabetes impacts substantially on the quality of life of those affected and kills or disables several million people each year. The disease is systemic because all organs, tissues, and cells suffer in the presence of hyperglycemia and are damaged by the diabetic milieu. Unfortunately, most patients with diabetes will consequently experience chronic diabetic complications. This book, combining basic science with a practical clinical orientation, will be of value for all physicians and nurses who care for patients with diabetes.

Book Molecular Pathogenesis of Diabetes Mellitus

Download or read book Molecular Pathogenesis of Diabetes Mellitus written by R. D. G. Leslie and published by S. Karger AG (Switzerland). This book was released on 1997 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diabetes, already a prevalent disease worldwide, is increasing at a rate consistent with a global epidemic. The number of people affected is expected to double in the next 15 years to about 200 million. The disease is already one of the commonest causes of kidney failure, blindness and amputations. There is an urgent need to prevent either the development of these complications or the disease itself. Dramatic advances in our understanding of the pathogenesis of diabetes have led to the hope that diabetes can indeed be prevented. Several major international collaborative projects have been initiated with this aim. In this book, an outstanding group of international scientists provide a broad outline of the advances in basic science which underpin these projects. The book offers a clear, comprehensive and up-to-date account for the interested clinician and scientist, and will be invaluable as a reference book for those working in the field.
