Their incredible journey leads them thousands of miles across eleven countries and two continents toward Jerusalem. Download or read book The Templar Spirit written by Margaret Jonas and published by Temple Lodge Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What spiritual or esoteric practices took place within the mysterious, often controversial activities of the Knights Templar? Little is known about this aspect of the Order's history, though speculation and wild rumors persist. Having taken the three vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, members of the Templar Order were required to live the life of other monastic orders. However, their remarkable rise to a successful elite community--followed by the insidious machinations and slander that led to their spectacular fall and destruction--suggests that they were involved in something more significant than simple medieval religious practices. There have been many theories about whether their "secret" involved material wealth and special treasure. On the other hand, could it have been connected to a science of initiation--knowledge, experience, and understanding of spiritual dimensions that can enlighten students on an esoteric path? In The Templar Spirit, Margaret Jonas penetrates these questions, examining various claims and revealing something of the esoteric practices and beliefs of the order, including influences from other religious traditions. She presents her research on the meaning of the mysterious "head" that the Templars were accused of worshipping, and examines the historical figures that lent their wisdom and guidance to the founding of the order.

Book The Rule of the Templars

Download or read book The Rule of the Templars written by Templars and published by Boydell Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents for the first time an English translation of henri de Curzon's 1886 edition of the French Rule, derived from the three extant medieval manuscripts. Both monastic rule and military manual, the Rule is a unique document and an important historical source. The Rule is divided into seven main sections: the Primitive Rule, Hierarchical Statutes, Penances, Conventual life, the Holding of Ordinary Chapters, Further Details on Penances, and Reception into the Order. There are details of the clothing, amour and equipment to which each brother was entitled; instructions to the brothers as to their conduct while on campaign, and information on the daily life of the members of this most influential military order, and on the monastic discipline which made it a formidable fighting force. The Rule evolved over almost one hundred and fifty years of the Order's history, and is thus a dynamic piece of work showing how the Templars adapted to political change and formulated their disciplinary code. An Introduction gives the historical background to the Rule and summarises the various sections. -- from back cover.

Book The Knights Templar Revealed

Download or read book The Knights Templar Revealed written by Alan Butler and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So state the authors, Alan Butler and Stephen Dafoe, in their much-acclaimed work The Warriors and the Bankers. But where did they come from, these mysterious white-mantled Knights of Christ, and were they simply a reflection of early twelfth-century Christian thinking? This is a question that Butler and Dafoe set out to answer - the discoveries they made will result in a dramatic reassessment of the whole period relating to the First Crusade and far beyond. The true genesis of the Knights Templar belong far back in time, long before Christianity even developed. The Templars were an offshoot of a little understood monastic brotherhood - the Cistercians, who themselves danced to the tune of an extremely powerful group of individuals inhabiting Burgundy and Flanders from the time of the Romans onwards. Butler and Dafoe offer a detailed account of the rise of a specific group identified as 'the Troyes Fraternity' that did not simply respond to the caprices of history; they made it. Behind the Knights Templar lay a pattern of belief almost as old as humanity and a heritage that was already ancient before recorded history began. The story is both fascinating and compulsive. It will le

These mediciners not only employed the leading cures of medieval Europe but also learned new methods from the local folk-healers and Arabic healing traditions they encountered on their journeys. Presenting a traditional “cure-all” or leechbook of the Crusader physicians, Jon Hughes shares a comprehensive encyclopedia of the ailments the Crusaders would have encountered and the remedies their mediciners would have employed. He details recipes for many cures and a range of magico-medical applications such as charms, spells, enchantments, and amulets used to address the new illnesses of strange and foreign lands. He includes a detailed and comprehensive herbal, listing all the plants and materials needed to make and administer the remedies of the cure-all. He also details his travels in the steps of the Crusader physicians throughout Poland, the Czech Republic, Malta, Morocco, and the island of Rhodes where he met with healers still following this healing path who shared their practices with him. Revealing how the healers of the Crusades helped elevate Western medical knowledge through the integration of wisdom from their Middle Eastern counterparts, Hughes shows how their legacy continues through the many effective remedies and healing modalities still in use today.

Book The Templar Quest to North America

Download or read book The Templar Quest to North America written by Gretchen Cornwall and published by . This book was released on 2019-10-13 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Templar Cross Pattée was discovered in a forest in Wisconsin. The Mohican Reservation now holds the remains of a lost Knight Templar settlement. Controversial? Yes! The mystery of the forest holds a Templar Tomb, effigy and the foundation stones of a castle! Columbus could have only known of North America due to his predecessors, the Vikings and their descendants, the Knights Templar. I believe that the anomalies of history are worth investigating. Rather than sweeping them under a carpet to preserve the status quo, oddities should be regarded as mounting evidence for a historical course correction, an opportunity to deepen our understanding of who we are and our origins. It is far too simplistic to walk past an object, architectural feature or an odd local legend as being circumstantial. Dig just below the surface, and narrow, dull threads turn into golden ropes of probabilities... I have long been a proponent of Templar missions to North America. I was approached in July of 2018 with a photograph of a rock carving that had every earmark of being medieval Templar graffiti. I knew I had to jump in with both feet and find out all that was possible about his mysterious discovery. The photo had been taken deep within a Wisconsin forest! In the summer of 2018, I was sent photos that would lead me to the now Tribal lands of the Mohicans where a great secret had been waiting for hundreds of years. The initial photo was of a Templar Cross Pattée via Facebook Messenger. I nearly fell out of my chair. It was credible and the individual who sent them had such an integrous background as to be the stuff of movies! Wayne Murphy, a retired police officer and Tribal Elder of the Mohicans, was not given to flights of fancy. I had to visit the location myself and meet the man who found the carving to verify the discovery but found so much more, exceeding my expectations of the site. I determined that I may have been standing on the grounds of a lost Templar settlement near Lake Michigan, deep in the woods on the Mohican Reservation. I was given permission to photography & explore the Reservation as long as I was accompanied by Tribal Elder, Wayne Murphy. The growing realization of what had been achieved in such a dangerous voyage and inland exploration by Templars could only mean that they had Native American allies. The site was not just a random carving but the beginnings of what I believed could be an actual Templar relay fortress for the purpose of a westward push and a sustained return. It is a link in a chain from Oak Island Nova Scotia. I had the privilege of being in the War Room of the Curse of Oak Island, virtually, in Season Six, Episode Six 2018 The dramatic history of the Templars rise and fall has become familiar. The infamous date of October 13th, 1307. A day that shocked Europe and gave us the folklore of bad luck down the centuries, known as Friday the 13th. Did they survive? Where did they go? What were their hopes and dreams for the future? I believe the investigation held within the pages of this book answers many of these questions. They were arrested en masse in 1307 and imprisoned for several further years. They lost their Grand Master and two of his senior officers in a horrific execution in 1314, ending the public face of the tough, skilful and most mysterious Chivalrous Order in Europe. The courage of Jacques de Molay at his execution by fire had to leave an indelible mark on the minds of those who survived. This investigation is one avenue of inquiry as to what happened to the survivors.

Book The New Knighthood

Download or read book The New Knighthood written by Malcolm Barber and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-03-26 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Order of the Temple was founded in 1119 with the limited aim of protecting pilgrims around Jerusalem. It developed into one of the most powerful corporations in the medieval world which lasted for nearly two centuries until its suppression in 1312. Despite the loss of its central archive in the sixteenth century, the Order left many records of its existence as the spearhead of crusading activity in Palestine and Syria, as the administrator of a great network of preceptories and lands in the Latin west, and as a banker and ship-owner. Because of the dramatic nature of its abolition, it has retained its grip on the imagination and consequently there has developed an entirely fictional 'after-history' in which its secret presence has been evoked to explain mysteries which range from masonic conspiracy to the survival of the Turin Shroud. This book offers a concise and up-to-date introduction to the reality and the myth of this extraordinary institution.

Book The Templars and the Assassins

Download or read book The Templars and the Assassins written by James Wasserman and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2001-04-01 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: • An examination of the interactions of the Christian Knights Templar and their Muslim counterparts, the Assassins, and of the profound changes in Western society that resulted. • Restores the reputation of the secret Muslim order of the Assassins, disparaged as the world's first terrorist group. • Dispels many myths about the Knights Templar and provides the most incisive portrait of them to date. A thousand years ago Christian battled Muslim for possession of a strip of land upon which both their religions were founded. These Crusades changed the course of Western history, but less known is the fact that they also were the meeting ground for two legendary secret societies: The Knights Templar and their Muslim counterparts, the Assassins. In The Templars and the Assassins: The Militia of Heaven, occult scholar and secret society member James Wasserman provides compelling evidence that the interaction of the Knights Templar and the Assassins in the Holy Land transformed the Templars from the Pope's private army into a true occult society, from which they would sow the seeds of the Renaissance and the Western Mystery Tradition. Both orders were destroyed as heretical some seven hundred years ago, but Templar survivors are believed to have carried the secret teachings of the East into an occult underground, from which sprang both Rosicrucianism and Masonry. Assassin survivors, known as Nizari Ismailis, flourish to this day under the spiritual leadership of the Aga Khan. Wasserman strips the myths from both groups and penetrates to the heart of their enlightened beliefs and rigorous practices, delivering the most probing picture yet of these holy warriors.
