Book Mathematical Feynman Path Integrals and Their Applications

Download or read book Mathematical Feynman Path Integrals and Their Applications written by Sonia Mazzucchi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although more than 60 years have passed since their first appearance, Feynman path integrals have yet to lose their fascination and luster. They are not only a formidable instrument of theoretical physics, but also a mathematical challenge; in fact, several mathematicians in the last 40 years have devoted their efforts to the rigorous mathematical definition of Feynman's ideas. This volume provides a detailed, self-contained description of the mathematical difficulties as well as the possible techniques used to solve these difficulties. In particular, it gives a complete overview of the mathematical realization of Feynman path integrals in terms of well-defined functional integrals, that is, the infinite dimensional oscillatory integrals. It contains the traditional results on the topic as well as the more recent developments obtained by the author. Mathematical Feynman Path Integrals and Their Applications is devoted to both mathematicians and physicists, graduate students and researchers who are interested in the problem of mathematical foundations of Feynman path integrals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The program of the Institute covered several aspects of functional integration -from a robust mathematical foundation to many applications, heuristic and rigorous, in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. It included analytic and numerical computational techniques. One of the goals was to encourage cross-fertilization between these various aspects and disciplines. The first week was focused on quantum and classical systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom; the second week on field theories. During the first week the basic course, given by P. Cartier, was a presentation of a recent rigorous approach to functional integration which does not resort to discretization, nor to analytic continuation. It provides a definition of functional integrals simpler and more powerful than the original ones. Could this approach accommodate the works presented by the other lecturers? Although much remains to be done before answering "Yes," there seems to be no major obstacle along the road. The other courses taught during the first week presented: a) a solid introduction to functional numerical techniques (A. Sokal) and their applications to functional integrals encountered in chemistry (N. Makri). b) integrals based on Poisson processes and their applications to wave propagation (S. K. Foong), in particular a wave-restorer or wave-designer algorithm yielding the initial wave profile when one can only observe its distortion through a dissipative medium. c) the formulation of a quantum equivalence principle (H. Kleinert) which. given the flat space theory, yields a well-defined quantum theory in spaces with curvature and torsion.

Book excerpt: This proceedings volume contains selected talks and poster presentations from the 9th International Conference on Path Integrals ? New Trends and Perspectives, which took place at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden, Germany, during the period September 23?28, 2007. Continuing the well-developed tradition of the conference series, the present status of both the different techniques of path integral calculations and their diverse applications to many fields of physics and chemistry is reviewed. This is reflected in the main topics in this volume, which range from more traditional fields such as general quantum physics and quantum or statistical field theory through technical aspects like Monte Carlo simulations to more modern applications in the realm of quantum gravity and astrophysics, condensed matter physics with topical subjects such as Bose?Einstein condensation or quantum wires, biophysics and econophysics. All articles are successfully tied together by the common method of path integration; as a result, special methodological advancements in one topic could be transferred to other topics.

Book Planar Ising Correlations

Download or read book Planar Ising Correlations written by John Palmer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-06-15 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steady progress in recent years has been made in understanding the special mathematical features of certain exactly solvable models in statistical mechanics and quantum field theory, including the scaling limits of the 2-D Ising (lattice) model, and more generally, a class of 2-D quantum fields known as holonomic fields. New results have made it possible to obtain a detailed nonperturbative analysis of the multi-spin correlations. In particular, the book focuses on deformation analysis of the scaling functions of the Ising model, and will appeal to graduate students, mathematicians, and physicists interested in the mathematics of statistical mechanics and quantum field theory.

Book New Non Perturbative Methods and Quantization on the Light Cone

Download or read book New Non Perturbative Methods and Quantization on the Light Cone written by P. Grange and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the several distinct ways of formulating and quantizing a Hamiltonian system, the light cone approach enjoys special status because it has the largest stability group. The aim of this volume is to present recent achievements and open problems in this rather unusual quantization framework to a large audience. The formulation is set up in a comprehensive introduction where the issues are also clearly indicated with specific examples: vacuum structure, signature of non-perturbative effects, chiral symmetry breaking, light cone gauge theories, etc. The following chapters address these topics through a selection of the most relevant contributions presented at Les Houches. This volume should prove valuable to newcomers in the field, and graduates and academics.

Book Hamiltonian Mechanics of Gauge Systems

Download or read book Hamiltonian Mechanics of Gauge Systems written by Lev V. Prokhorov and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-22 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principles of gauge symmetry and quantization are fundamental to modern understanding of the laws of electromagnetism, weak and strong subatomic forces and the theory of general relativity. Ideal for graduate students and researchers in theoretical and mathematical physics, this unique book provides a systematic introduction to Hamiltonian mechanics of systems with gauge symmetry. The book reveals how gauge symmetry may lead to a non-trivial geometry of the physical phase space and studies its effect on quantum dynamics by path integral methods. It also covers aspects of Hamiltonian path integral formalism in detail, along with a number of related topics such as the theory of canonical transformations on phase space supermanifolds, non-commutativity of canonical quantization and elimination of non-physical variables. The discussion is accompanied by numerous detailed examples of dynamical models with gauge symmetries, clearly illustrating the key concepts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The material in this new Springer publication has arisen from a conference devoted to the 80 years of the Copenhagen Interpretation, and to the question of the relevance of the Copenhagen interpretation for the present understanding of quantum mechanics. The nature of quantum fluctuations---in the form of Stochastic Electrodynamics and other approaches to stochastic quantum mechanics---was, among others, a central topic discussed during the conference, especially during debates.

Book Classical Topology And Quantum States

Download or read book Classical Topology And Quantum States written by Aiyalam P Balachandran and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991-05-16 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to the role of topology in the quantization of classical systems. It is also an introduction to topological solitons with special emphasis on Skyrmions. As regards the first aspect, several issues of current interest are dealt with at a reasonably elementary level. Examples are principal fibre bundles and their role in quantum physics, the possibility of spinorial quantum states in a Lagrangian theory based on tensorial variables, and multiply connected configuration spaces and associated quantum phenomena like the QCD q angle and exotic statistics. The ideas are also illustrated by simple examples such as the spinning particle, the charge-monopole system and strings in 3+1 dimensions. The application of these ideas to quantum gravity is another subject treated at an introductory level. An attempt has been made in this book to introduce the reader to the significance of topology for many distinct physical systems such as spinning particles, the charge- monopole system, strings, Skyrmions, QCD and gravity. The book is an outgrowth of lectures given by the authors at various institutions and conferences.
