Book The Decline in Paternalism Among Peruvian and Japanese Laborers

Download or read book The Decline in Paternalism Among Peruvian and Japanese Laborers written by Stillman Bradfield and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study compares questionnaire responses of Peruvian and Japanese laborers with respect to their opinions of their duties to their companies and their companies' obligation to them. Workers in both countries see management as obliged to continue employment of workers regardless of the economic situation. Similarly, workers in both countries expect paternalistic treatment by the company where this is to their economic benefit, in such areas as recreations, vacation, savings, housing, etc. However, Peruvians were generally more willing to return traditional loyalties to the company than were the Japanese. In both countries the trend seems to be away from paternalism, especially on work issues. Workers of both countries are willing to continue recognizing traditional status obligations in off-job areas where there are no economic costs. Where the costs fall to the company, paternalistic treatment is still favored. Workers in both countries, but moreso in Peru, are pressing for more participation in the decisions that affect how they carry out their jobs. (Author).

Book Keiretsu Economy New Economy

Download or read book Keiretsu Economy New Economy written by R. Kensy and published by Springer. This book was released on 2001-04-02 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book combines a theoretical study of Japan's economic structures and multinational enterprises with a post-modern analysis of the contemporary multinational enterprise. The author considers the appropriateness of the post-modern approach for discussing economic activities, in particular the New Economy, and also Japanese society and culture. Kensy analyses Japan's economic structure, interpreting its methods, strategies and results in a post-modern context and presents a survey of socio-economic development in Japan since the beginning of westernization. He goes on to discuss Japanese models for the transformation of society in the future, with particular reference to the Keiretzu. Finding Japan to be a truly postmodern society, Kensy shows that Japan is prepared to be a leader in the New Economy. Kensy takes an innovative and stimulating approach that will be of interest to those seeking to better understand the development and future of the economic structures of Japan.
