Book Pastori pope preti rabbini

Download or read book Pastori pope preti rabbini written by Maurizio Sangalli and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1563, the Council of Trent published its Decrees, calling for significant reforms of the Catholic Church in response to criticism from both Protestants and Catholics alike. Bishops, according to the Decrees, would take the lead in implementing these reforms. They were tasked with creating a Church in which priests and laity were well educated, morally upright, and focused on worshipping God. Unfortunately for these bishops, the Decrees provided few practical suggestions for achieving the wide-ranging changes demanded. Reform was therefore an arduous and complex process, which many bishops struggled to accomplish or even refused to undertake fully. The Bishop’s Burden argues that reforming bishops were forced to be creative and resourceful to accomplish meaningful change, including creating strong diocesan governments, reforming clerical and lay behavior, educating priests and parishioners, and converting non-believers. The book explores this issue through a detailed case study of the episcopacy of Cardinal-Bishop Gregorio Barbarigo of Padua (bp. 1664-1697), asking how a dedicated bishop formulated a reform program that sought to achieve the Church’s goals. Barbarigo, like other reforming bishops, borrowed strategies from a variety of sources in the absence of clear guidance from Rome. He looked to both pre- and post-Tridentine bishops, the Society of Jesus, the Venetian government, and the Propaganda Fide, which he selectively emulated to address the problems he discovered in Padua. The book is based primarily on the detailed records of Barbarigo’s visitations of rural parishes and captures the rarely-heard voices of seventeenth-century Italian peasants. The Bishop's Burden helps us understand not only the changes experienced by early modern Catholics, but also how even the most sophisticated plans of central authorities could be frustrated by practical realities, which in turn complicates our understanding of state-building and social control.

Book The Jesuits the Padroado and East Asian Science 1552 1773

Download or read book The Jesuits the Padroado and East Asian Science 1552 1773 written by Lu¡s Saraiva and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the end of the 15th century, Portugal was given the oversight (Padroado) of all Catholic missions in Asia. The Society of Jesus played a major role in this enterprise of evangelization, which in Jesuit hands led to the transmission of major elements of European mathematical sciences to East Asia. The essays in this volume present important new data and analysis on the extent to and ways in which Jesuit scientific culture and Portuguese policies regarding education, trade and mission shaped the reception of ?Western learning? in China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam in the early modern period.

Book Glaube und Theologie Faith and Theology

Download or read book Glaube und Theologie Faith and Theology written by Wolfram Kinzig and published by Evangelische Verlagsanstalt. This book was released on 2019-07-31 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Since the beginnings of Christianity, there has been a fundamental tension between faith and theology. The Reformation, with its principle of sola fide on the one hand and its institutionalisation of a scripture-based academic theology on the other hand, drew particular attention to the tension and suggested new answers to that problem. That effort contributed to a fundamental transformation of academic theology within the faculties of Protestant Theology which emerged as a result of the movement. In the past decades, however, academic theology has come under considerable pressure. [In much of Europe and North America,] The process of secularization has led to a massive decline in religious education and – partially as a reaction to this – to a trivialization of academic theology. At the same time, one can observe a global proliferation of evangelical and Pentecostal groups. These groups sometimes display a certain indifference towards academic theological training, or even reject it altogether. In view of this development the question arises to what extent the relationship between faith and theology as defined in the wake of the Reformation will in future continue to be religiously productive and may thus serve the churches and their congregations.

Download or read book History Of Mathematical Sciences Portugal And East Asia V Visual And Textual Representations In Exchanges Between Europe And East Asia 16th 18th Centuries written by Luis M R Saraiva and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-06-13 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, research on the history of early modern cartography has undergone remarkable developments. At the same time, European travel accounts and works on China and Japan are also being investigated more systematically. Finally, studies of translations between European and East Asian languages have highlighted the more general issue of how and to what extent representations of the world that prevailed at one end of Eurasia informed and influenced the representations prevailing at the other end of the continent, sometimes to the point that novel forms of representations were being generated. This volume brings together a series of essays on this theme. It is divided into five sections which address as many topics: the textual representation of the 'Other'; 16th- and 17th-century maps of China, Japan and Vietnam; the phenomenon of hybridisation in visual representations; knowledge and representations of the world in Europe and East Asia; and the circulation of representations of the heavens in astronomy between these two regions.

This book was released on 2016-11-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides up-to-date, comprehensive, and accurate information on the diagnostic imaging of nontraumatic abdominal emergencies in pediatric patients. All of the most common neonatal and pediatric emergencies are covered, with separate discussion of diseases that occur more commonly in newborns and those typically encountered later in childhood. For each condition, the main signs observed using the various imaging techniques – X-ray, Ultrasonography, Computed Tomography, and Magnetic Resonance – are described and illustrated with the aid of a wealth of images. Attention is drawn to those features of particular relevance to differential diagnosis, and the prognostic value of diagnostic imaging is also explained. The final section addresses topics of special interest, including the acute onset of abdominal neoplasms, the problems associated with radiation protection in the emergency setting, and medicolegal issues and informed content. The book will be of value for all radiologists working in emergency settings in which pediatric patients (newborn and children accessing the emergency department) are regularly examined.

This book was released on 2007 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Triplex Confinium, or triple border, was an actual point in the proximity of the town of Knin in Croatia, between the Habsburg Empire, the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Venice after the peace treaty of Karlowitz in 1699. The Triplex Confinium, as an area and experience of living on the crossroads of different civilizations, cultures and religions in a long historical perspective, inspired an international research project focused upon the comparative history and intercultural approaches of borders and borderlands in Southeast Europe, where three distinctive political, cultural and confessional contexts encountered each other over the centuries. The Triplex Confinium is above all a metaphor of cultural challenges in the areas of multiple borderlands.
