Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: II-VI Semiconductor Materials and Their Applications deals with II-VI compound semiconductors and the status of the two areas of current optoelectronics applications: blue-green emitters and IR detectors. Specifically, the growth, charactrtization, materials and device issues for these two applications are described. Emphasis is placed on the wide bandgap emitters where much progress has occurred recently. The book also presents new directions that have potential, future applications in optoelectronics for II-VI materials. In particular, it discusses the status of dilute magnetic semiconductors for mango-optical and electromagnetic devices, nonlinear optical properties, photorefractive effects and new materials and physics phenomena, such as self-organized, low-dimensional structures.II_VI Semiconductor Materials and Their Applications is a valuable reference book for researchers in the field as well as a textbook for materials science and applied physics courses.

Book Recent Advances in the 3D Physiological Human

Download or read book Recent Advances in the 3D Physiological Human written by Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-11-24 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research into the 3D Physiological Human is a very active field focusing on the creation of patient-specific computer models for personalised healthcare. Reporting on how these models can simulate and provide a better understanding of human physiology and pathology, this book also looks at how the evolution and the improvement of technological devices such as scanners, medical instruments, and computer power have helped in our understanding of the human body and its functionalities. The book contains contributions from leading researchers from a variety of disciplines (including computer graphics, biomechanics, knowledge representation, human-machine interfaces etc) associated with medical imaging, simulation, computer-assisted surgery and 3D semantics. Divided into three parts: anatomical and physiological modelling, physically-based simulation, and medical analysis and knowledge management, this book provides a clear picture of the most recent advances in this increasingly important area.

Book Routledge Handbook of Critical Criminology

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Critical Criminology written by Walter S. DeKeseredy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-09 with total page 675 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of the second edition of the Routledge Handbook of Critical Criminology is twofold: (1) to provide original chapters that cover contemporary critical criminological theoretical offerings generated over the past five years and (2) to provide chapters on important new substantive topics that are currently being studied and theorized by progressive criminologists. Special attention is devoted to new theoretical directions in the field, such as southern criminology, queer criminology, and green criminology. The diverse chapters cover not only cutting-edge theories, but also the variety of research methods used by leading scholars in the field and the rich data generated by their rigorous empirical work. In addition, some of the chapters suggest innovative and realistic short- and long-term policy proposals that are typically ignored by mainstream criminology. These progressive strategies address some of the most pressing social problems facing contemporary society today, which generate much pain and suffering for socially and economically disenfranchised people. The new edition of the Handbook is a major work in redefining areas within the context of international multidisciplinary critical research, and in highlighting emerging areas, such as human trafficking, Internet pornography and image-based sexual abuse. It is specifically designed to be a comprehensive resource for undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers and policymakers.

Book Philosophies of Appropriated Religions

Download or read book Philosophies of Appropriated Religions written by Soraj Hongladarom and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-22 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together different intercultural philosophical points of view discussing the philosophical impact of what we call the ‘appropriated’ religions of Southeast Asia. Southeast Asia is home to most of the world religions. Buddhism is predominantly practiced in Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Singapore, Laos, and Cambodia; Islam in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei; and Christianity in the Philippines and Timor-Leste. Historical data show, however, that these world religions are imported cultural products, and have been reimagined, assimilated, and appropriated by the culture that embraced them. In this collection, we see that these ‘appropriated’ religions imply a culturally nuanced worldview, which, in turn, impacts how the traditional problems in the philosophy of religion are framed and answered—in particular, questions about the existence and nature of the divine, the problem of evil, and the nature of life after death. Themes explored include: religious belief and digital transition, Theravāda Buddhist philosophy, religious diversity, Buddhism and omniscience, indigenous belief systems, divine apology and unmerited human suffering, dialetheism and the problem of evil, Buddhist philosophy and Spinoza’s views on death and immortality, belief and everyday realities in the Philippines, comparative religious philosophy, gendering the Hindu concept of dharma, Christian devotion and salvation during the Spanish colonial period in the Philippines through the writings of Jose Rizal, indigenous Islamic practices in the Philippines, practiced traditions in contemporary Filipino celebrations of Christmas, role of place-aspects in the appropriation of religions in Southeast Asia, and fate and divine omniscience. This book is of interest to scholars and researchers of philosophy of religion, sociology of religion, anthropology of religion, cultural studies, comparative religion, religious studies, and Asian studies.
