Book The Concepts and Practices of Lifelong Learning

Download or read book The Concepts and Practices of Lifelong Learning written by Brenda Morgan-Klein and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-12-17 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook gives a wide-ranging, research-informed introduction to issues in lifelong learning across a variety of educational settings and practices. Its very accessible approach is multi-disciplinary drawing on sociology and psychology in particular. In addition, issues are discussed within an international context. While there has been a proliferation of texts focussing on particular areas of practice such as higher education, there is little in the way of a broad overview. Chapters one to four introduce various conceptions of lifelong learning, the factors that impinge on learning through the life course, and the social and the economic rationale for lifelong learning. Chapters five-ten consider the varied sites of lifelong learning, from the micro to macro (from the home to the region to the virtual). Chapter eleven draws the strands together in the context of turbulence and continuing transition in personal and work roles, and against the background of future technological development. This timely overview will be relevant to education and training professionals, education studies students and the general reader.

This book was released on 2001-06-19 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizations around the world are forming innovative partnerships to offer virtual learning opportunities to global audiences. This book focuses on the crucial questions higher education leaders are asking about these "learning marketspace" partnerships: What do they look like? How will they influence educational delivery systems? When should an institution initiate such a partnership effort? What type of leader is needed for learning marketspace partnerships? What makes such partnerships successful? Partnering in the Learning Marketspace describes how leaders in higher education, government, community, and business can form productive partnerships to leverage the best content and provide a gateway to that content for learners around the globe. The authors present a framework for understanding the learning marketspace concept and offer an engaging blueprint for developing and implementing partnerships to support lifelong learners. The book includes practical information that will help potential learning marketspace partners learn to: understand the dynamics of marketspace portals; set priorities for partnering; assess partnership readiness; overcome obstacles to building partnerships; develop tools to support learners in e-mentor and e-community relationships; and identify leadership competencies in a global learning marketspace. The book includes insightful commentaries by national and international education leaders who have participated in electronic learning environments.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lifelong Learning is now central to the Hong Kong education reform agenda. As a recent Education Commission Report put it, 'lifelong learning is the key to Hong Kong's success'. This book focuses on the post-secondary, continuing and professional education (CPE) sector. It includes contributions from Hong Kong practitioners in the field as well as from eminent international scholars who are well acquainted with CPE in Hong Kong. The book is in three parts. The first part traces recent developments in CPE in Hong Kong and offers an up-to-date account of policy, programmes and provision. A profile of lifelong learners, drawing on recent research findings, is also provided. In the second part, practitioners from a diverse range of subject disciplines offer their perspectives on the issues. This part of the book contains a wealth of ideas and examples illustrating the practice of lifelong learning in Hong Kong. The third part examines the forces shaping post-secondary education in Hong Kong and explores emergent issues. Topics discussed include: the convergence of higher and continuing education, work-based learning, cross-border collaborations with mainland China, Hong Kong vocational education and training policy, and the legal challenges posed by on-line learning. Written primarily for academic managers and teachers in the adult and continuing education sector, this book will also be of interest to (postgraduate) students of lifelong learning, comparative education researchers, CPE policy-makers, employers and human resources managers. It is a timely contribution to the current debate on the future shape of education in Hong Kong. The two Editors' combined experience in tertiary sector teaching and administration totals 57 years. They are now both working in the School of Professional and Continuing Education, The University of Hong Kong (HKU SPACE).
