Book excerpt: This report is for those who use or may want to use wood particleboard. The term gbsparticleboardgcs is used as defined in the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard D 1554, which includes flakeboards as a subclass of particleboards, and not as used in the lumber trade where the term is usually reserved for panels made of fine wood particles such as sawdust and planer shavings. Types and grades of particleboard are described and discussed in relation to end uses as nonstructural underlayment, stair tread, shelving, furniture, core material, cabinetry, structural sheathing, subflooring and combination subfloor/underlayment, and siding. The structural panels used in light-frame construction are primarily flakeboards.

Download or read book The Outlook for Particleboard Manufacture in the Northern Rocky Mountain Region written by Richard P. Withycombe and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: National demands for particleboard panel products and raw materials supply are projected for the 1970's. Demand for particleboard (which includes fiberboard and structural particleboard) is expected to continue rapid growth through the decade. new plant capacity will use dry mill residues wherever possible. Several new plants are expected in the South, and three or four each in California, the Pacific Northwest, and the Northern Rocky Mountains. In the last of the decade, expanding production will turn to use of forest residues, which will shift plant expansion toward the major markets and away from the Northwest. Analysis of production costs indicate that in the Northern Rocky Mountains plants utilizing forest residues cannot profitably compete with plants taht utilize mill residues until the existing mill residues are exhausted.

Book excerpt: This comprehensive reference work examines the technology and describes the materials used in the manufacture of wood particleboard. In two volumes, with 170figures and 24tables, glossary, conversion tables, bibliography, and indexes. Though only a few decades old, the field of wood particleboard is expanding at a tremendous rate. The importance of the revolutionary, fast-moving technology is underscored by the great promise it holds for helping to fulfill the ever-expanding worldwide demands for wood products. Volume 1considers in detail wood factors affecting manufacture and board properties, and discusses the various types of raw materials. Volume 2details the two major manufacturing processes for producing particleboard, the flat press and extrusion methods.

Download or read book Particle Board and Hardboard written by L. E. Akers and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pergamon Series of Monographs on Furniture and Timber, Volume 4: Particle Board and Hardboard focuses on particle boards, which are described as a sheet material manufactured from small pieces of wood or other ligno-cellulosic materials agglomerated by use of an organic binder together with agents such as heat, pressure, moisture, and catalyst. This book is divided into two parts. Part I concentrates on the types; methods of manufacture; physical and strength properties; tests, test methods, and quality evaluation; handling and machining; utilization in furniture and building of particle boards. In Part II, a brief discussion on the types, manufacture, properties, and applications of hard board is provided. The last part of this text is devoted to a glossary of terms relating to particle board, hardboard, and similar products. This volume is valuable to builders, architects, joiners, furniture designers, interior designers, and manufacturers of any products requiring flat, plane surfaced material for painting, veneering, or the application of laminated plastics.
