Book Multi dimensional hyperbolic partial differential equations

Download or read book Multi dimensional hyperbolic partial differential equations written by Sylvie Benzoni-Gavage and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2006-11-23 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Authored by leading scholars, this comprehensive, self-contained text presents a view of the state of the art in multi-dimensional hyperbolic partial differential equations, with a particular emphasis on problems in which modern tools of analysis have proved useful. Ordered in sections of gradually increasing degrees of difficulty, the text first covers linear Cauchy problems and linear initial boundary value problems, before moving on to nonlinear problems, including shock waves. The book finishes with a discussion of the application of hyperbolic PDEs to gas dynamics, culminating with the shock wave analysis for real fluids. With an extensive bibliography including classical and recent papers both in PDE analysis and in applications (mainly to gas dynamics), this text will be valuable to graduates and researchers in both hyperbolic PDEs and compressible fluid dynamics.

Book Recent Trends in Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Recent Trends in Partial Differential Equations written by Juan Luis Vazquez and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2006 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the research and expository articles for the courses and talks given at the UIMP-RSME Lluis A. Santalo Summer School, Recent Trends in Partial Differential Equations. The goal of the Summer School was to present some of the many advances that are currently taking place in the interaction between nonlinear partial differential equations and their applications to other scientific disciplines. Oriented to young post-docs and advanced doctoral students, the courses dealt with topics of current interest. Some of the tools presented are quite powerful and sophisticated. These new methods are presented in an expository manner or applied to a particular example to demonstrate the main ideas of the method and to serve as a handy introduction to further study. Young researchers in partial differential equations and colleagues from neighboring fields will find these notes a good addition to their libraries. This is a joint publication of the Real Sociedad Matematica Espanola and the American Mathematical Society.

Book Optimal Control Problems for Partial Differential Equations on Reticulated Domains

Download or read book Optimal Control Problems for Partial Differential Equations on Reticulated Domains written by Peter I. Kogut and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-09-09 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the development of optimal control, the complexity of the systems to which it is applied has increased significantly, becoming an issue in scientific computing. In order to carry out model-reduction on these systems, the authors of this work have developed a method based on asymptotic analysis. Moving from abstract explanations to examples and applications with a focus on structural network problems, they aim at combining techniques of homogenization and approximation. Optimal Control Problems for Partial Differential Equations on Reticulated Domains is an excellent reference tool for graduate students, researchers, and practitioners in mathematics and areas of engineering involving reticulated domains.

Book Wave Propagation Observation and Control in 1 d Flexible Multi Structures

Download or read book Wave Propagation Observation and Control in 1 d Flexible Multi Structures written by René Dáger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-08-23 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to analyze the vibrations of simpli?ed 1? d models of multi-body structures consisting of a ?nite number of ?exible strings d- tributed along planar graphs. We?rstdiscussissueson existence and uniquenessof solutions that can be solved by standard methods (energy arguments, semigroup theory, separation ofvariables,transposition,...).Thenweanalyzehowsolutionspropagatealong the graph as the time evolves, addressing the problem of the observation of waves. Roughly, the question of observability can be formulated as follows: Can we obtain complete information on the vibrations by making measu- ments in one single extreme of the network? This formulation is relevant both in the context of control and inverse problems. UsingtheFourierdevelopmentofsolutionsandtechniquesofNonharmonic Fourier Analysis, we give spectral conditions that guarantee the observability property to hold in any time larger than twice the total length of the network in a suitable Hilbert space that can be characterized in terms of Fourier series by means of properly chosen weights. When the network graph is a tree, we characterize these weights in terms of the eigenvalues of the corresponding elliptic problem. The resulting weighted observability inequality allows id- tifying the observable energy in Sobolev terms in some particular cases. That is the case, for instance, when the network is star-shaped and the ratios of the lengths of its strings are algebraic irrational numbers.
