Les nombreux facteurs de risque ayant une action directe ou indirecte dans son établissement sont responsables de la grande complexité de ce trouble. Par ailleurs, bien que les enfants constituent probablement la tranche d'âges la plus fréquemment atteinte, c'est également chez eux que le trouble est le plus ignoré, et qu'un manque de connaissances reste le plus présent.Pourtant, le développement de ce trouble chez l'enfant peut constituer un signe d'alerte vis-à-vis de troubles annexes dont les parents et l'entourage de l'enfant n'ont pas forcément connaissance tels que des hypertrophies adénoïdiennes ou des troubles psychologiques. De plus, ces différents troubles peuvent interagir entre eux et ainsi nuire à la santé et à la qualité de vie du patient. Une meilleure connaissance des différents facteurs de risque du bruxisme chez l'enfant parait dès lors judicieuse dans le but de prendre en charge au mieux les patients concernés, en mettant en place, selon le contexte clinique, des thérapeutiques à la fois préventives et curatives, bien que nombres de ces thérapeutiques restent à l'heure actuelle plus des recommandations, en raison d'un manque évident de preuve scientifique.

Dans un premier chapitre, nous tenterons de donner une définition du bruxisme chez les enfants et d'en décrire les différentes formes. La deuxième partie s'intéressera à l'épidémiologie de cette pathologie chez les enfants. Dans le troisième chapitre, nous traiterons les différentes étiologies de ce trouble à savoir ses origines centrales, périphériques et génétiques. Nous mettrons ainsi en avant son caractère multifactoriel. La quatrième partie exposera les multiples conséquences de ce bruxisme juvénile sur ces patients. Dans la cinquième partie, nous développerons les éléments permettant le diagnostic du bruxisme chez l'enfant ainsi que son diagnostic différentiel. Pour terminer, nous exposerons les différentes thérapeutiques à la disposition du chirurgien-dentiste. Le bruxisme peut être très nocif et sa prise en charge apparaît comme délicate. Il paraît donc nécessaire d'installer une prise en charge précoce et multidisciplinaire. La prévention est essentielle. Le bien être physique et psychologique de l'enfant peut être déterminant dans l'apparition des symptômes. Il est donc essentiel de la prendre en compte et d'être attentif au respect de l'intégrité de l'enfant.
