Book Parapsychology Philosophy and the Mind

Download or read book Parapsychology Philosophy and the Mind written by Fiona Steinkamp and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-10-02 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Beloff is one of our foremost authorities in parapsychology. He is credited with an instrumental role in the acceptance of parapsychology into academia. On April 21 and 22, 2000, a two-day international conference was held by the Koestler Parapsychology Unit of the Psychology Department at the University of Edinburgh to celebrate Beloff's eightieth birthday. Most of the essays in this work were presented at this conference honoring John Beloff. All of the contributors have published a number of articles in mainstream philosophy and their essays promote Beloff's greatest interest--a philosophical interaction with parapsychology. The book is divided into three sections and each section has three papers. The papers in the first section, "Parapsychology, Philosophy and the Mind," explore "the mind-brain problem," parapsychology and the principle of closure, and a cross-cultural perspective on dualism and the self. The second section, "Parapsychology, Self and Survival," looks at parapsychological phenomena and the sense of self, chrysalid therapy, and the problem of super psi. The third section, "Parapsychology, Religion and Spirituality," features papers that discuss parapsychology and how it relates to Hume's view of miracles, to religion, and to the origin of the Copernican hypothesis.

Book Spirituality Psychology

Download or read book Spirituality Psychology written by Dr. Sam Youssef Ph.D. and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2022-04-14 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a thinker and a researcher, I have always been pulled deeper into the spiritual dimension of healing over my many years of clinical practice in the field of therapy. Had many questions about an inner power inside us as humans that is waiting to be called out. This power was simply our spiritual power. Adding spirituality to the counseling psychology process would lead to a greater sense of humility, compassion, and forgiveness, as well as divine healing. In this book, I will examine the developing role of spirituality in counseling psychology by analyzing several counseling programs that used the combination of spiritual and psychological/ mental counseling methods in counseling clients. In addition, this book asserts that this integrated approach to counseling psychology causes momentous changes in the human subconscious mind. Human souls co-exist with the human body, and so, must be nurtured. The psycho-spiritual approach touches on the spiritual part of man to sort things out. We shall uncover a hidden healing pattern throughout human history and the development of world faiths that demands humans to acknowledge that they are inadequate and insufficient without the spiritual link. Researchers have shown that those who are more spiritually linked and interested in connecting to their higher mind are healthier, less sad, and more confident than their counterparts who are not connected spiritually. Studying counseling psychology programs in depth was a wonderful way for me to prove that incorporating the spiritual aspect into the counseling process can help people achieve their ultimate full mental health by connecting them to the divine higher intelligence both consciously and subconsciously, and by learning that healing faith teaches us who we are and what our true meaning in this world is.

Book The Science of Spirit

Download or read book The Science of Spirit written by Luis Portela and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2020-12-18 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the 20th century and into the new millennium, humanity has made enormous advancements in science and technology. Spiritual enlightenment, however, has gone relatively neglected, as fascination with material progress tends to keep us focused on the physical world, giving less importance to universal values, to being, to spiritual life. Parapsychological research has produced significant findings over the last few decades, and science has the obligation to continue exploring this area, seeking to contribute to the spiritual enlightenment of humanity. This book examines evidence of traditional psychic phenomena, promoting a more comprehensive understanding of them, and offering new perspective to see ourselves as particles of "universal energy," interconnected with all others.

Book Yoga Parapsychology

Download or read book Yoga Parapsychology written by K. Ramakrishna Rao and published by Motilal Banarsidass. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yoga and Parapsychology are two areas in which a significant amount of professional research is awaited. Parapsychology, considered as the discipline to study psi(psychic abilities), is essentially the science of siddhis (extraordinary human abilities). Yoga is considered to be an effective psycho-spiritual pursuit that results in the manifestation of a variety of supernormal phenomena. In fact, Patanjali's Yoga-Sutras is the foundational text of psychic science. One of its four parts, Vibhuti Pada, is filled with the description and discussion of a variety of paranormal phenomena. There is thus an intrinsic commonality between yoga and parapsychology, which remains essentially unexplored in any systematic way. A serious and scientific study of the two and the resultant synergy of their confluence could result in resolving many of the riddles that puzzle parapsychology today and be a harbinger of a vibrant science opening up new frontiers. Further, it could be seen as a productive East-West meet in a profound sense. Keeping this in view, a national conference and a workshop were organized during January 3-23, 2006 at Andhra University by the Institute for Human Science and Service with international participation. The present volume is a compilation of the major presentations at the conference and workshop, which are appropriately revised and edited in light of the discussions. The contents of the volume contain theoretical articles and reviews as well as experimental reports. Contributors come from different countries besides India, including the United States of America, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. Thus, the volume is international in scope and coverage.

Book Wild Beasts of the Philosophical Desert

Download or read book Wild Beasts of the Philosophical Desert written by Hein van Dongen and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03-26 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientists rarely take ‘paranormal experiences’ seriously. Furthermore, in the recent past the concept of the ‘paranormal’ did not even exist in philosophy. William James, who extensively studied mediumistic phenomena, labelled them ‘wild beasts of the philosophical desert’. This book demonstrates that to important philosophers – from Kant to Derrida – controversial phenomena like telepathy and clairvoyance were serious topics. The authors of this collection have studied relevant texts that have hitherto received little attention, and illustrate how each of the philosophers in question thoughtfully interpreted exceptional experiences that seem to go beyond our understanding.

Book Psychic Philosophy as the Foundation of a Religion of Natural Law Classic Reprint

Download or read book Psychic Philosophy as the Foundation of a Religion of Natural Law Classic Reprint written by V. C. Desertis and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Psychic Philosophy as the Foundation of a Religion of Natural Law Having had the opportunity of reading the proofs of the present volume (the author of which is unknown to me), I have been asked by the publisher to say a few words by way of introduction. It was well observed by the late Dr. W. B. Carpenter that new and startling facts, however well attested, are often rejected because they are held to be opposed to the indisputable conclusions of science; hence people find that "there is no place in the fabric of their thought into which such facts can be fitted," and until such a place is made for them further evidence of the same nature is useless. One great merit of the present work is that it overcomes this initial difficulty by showing that the facts of psychical research and modern spiritualism are really in harmony with the most advanced conclusions of science, and especially with modern conceptions as to the constitution of matter and of ether.
