Book Design Guides for Biological Wastewater Treatment Processes

Download or read book Design Guides for Biological Wastewater Treatment Processes written by Joseph F. Malina and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report provides a set of guidelines for the design of biological processes for the treatment of municipal wastewater. The equations and factors which must be considered in the design of the activated sludge system, the contact stabilization system, trickling filter plants, aerated lagoons, and waste stabilization ponds are identified. The applicability and limitations of each system and mathematical model of each process are established. Operating data from treatment plants where sufficient applicable data were recorded were used to develop rate constants and other coefficients required for application of the mathematical models and other design of treatment plants. The significant design considerations are discussed, design procedures are outlined and design calculations are developed.

Book Oxygen Consumption in Continuous Biological Culture

Download or read book Oxygen Consumption in Continuous Biological Culture written by Walter J. O'Brien and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To aid in the further development of sewage treatment by activated sludge, a continuous flow automatically recording respirometer was used to study the response of aeration only and aeration with sludge return completely mixed activated sludge systems (CMAS) to step changes in the influent substrate. The experiments were conducted at 25 C with glucose; a mixture of glucose, glutamate, and acetate; and a mixture of sewage solids plus Metrecal. Influent substrate concentrations were doubled in the 3-hour and tripled in the 6-hour mean residence time aeration only experiments without increasing the soluble COD in the effluent. Decreases in the influent substrate concentrations produced rapid decreases in the rate of oxygen utilization. A procedure for calculating the rate of oxygen uptake by a CMAS system at any time during a step transient was developed.

Book Advances in Water Pollution Research

Download or read book Advances in Water Pollution Research written by S. H. Jenkins and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 973 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Water Pollution Research features the 71 papers presented at the Sixth International Conference held in Jerusalem on June 18-23, 1972. These papers were those selected by the Programme Committee of the International Association on Water Pollution Research for discussion at the conference out of the 176 completed papers that were submitted. The topics of the papers in this book include industrial waste water problems, sewage treatment problems associated with solids, ponds, activated, sludge, groundwater pollution, trace metals in water, wastewater virology and microbiology, thermal pollution, and oxygen transfer. This book also provides the text of the discussion on these papers as well as the replies of the authors. This book will be of interest to persons dealing with studies on water pollution and pollution control.

Book Agricultural Waste Management

Download or read book Agricultural Waste Management written by Raymond Loehr and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agricultural Waste Management: Problems, Processes, and Approaches is a summary of the processes and approaches applicable to the solution of agricultural waste management problems. This book is organized into three part encompassing 13 chapters that is intended as a bridge between theory and practice as well as between the many disciplines that are involved in agricultural waste management. The primary focus of agricultural waste management is on the obvious problems of odor control and feedlot runoff. The first part looks into the status of agricultural waste problem and the application of engineering and scientific fundamentals to the management of these wastes. This part also deals with the role of the land in waste management, and then outlines the guidelines for the development of feasible waste management systems. The second part describes the fundamentals, principles, and benefits of various waste management processes, including biological processes, ponds and lagoons, aerobic, anaerobic, physical, and chemical treatments, and nitrogen control; as well as treatment systems, such as ponds, lagoons, and land disposal. The third part examines the integration of the most economical and equitable combination of alternative technologies into feasible waste management approaches. This work will be of great value to agricultural producers and manufacturers, scientists, and engineers.
