Book Painting Paradise

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gardens are where man and nature meet. They change by the hour, day-to-day, and with the seasons. They carry associations about the status, approach to life, and sometimes even the political affiliations of their creator. Gardens can be intended for public enjoyment or private delectation; they can be open to the masses or closed to all but a few. They may be places of scientific study; havens for the solitary thinker; spaces for frolicking and games, for flirtation and for love. Presented with the many faces of the garden, artists in Western Europe have looked at the garden in different ways, extracting and emphasising those facets of the garden unique to their culture and their time. At the same time individual elements drawn from the garden whether architectural or botanic have at certain periods come to the fore and taken their place in the decorative arts of Western Europe. This book explores the way in which the garden has inspired artists and craftsmen in Europe between 1500 and 1900. "

Book excerpt: In religion, paradise is a place of exceptional happiness and delight.[1] Paradisiacal notions are often laden with pastoral imagery, and may be cosmogonical or eschatological or both, often compared to the miseries of human civilization: in paradise there is only peace, prosperity, and happiness. Paradise is a place of contentment, a land of luxury and fulfillment. Paradise is often described as a "higher place", the holiest place, in contrast to this world, or underworlds such as Hell.In eschatological contexts, paradise is imagined as an abode of the virtuous dead. In Christian and Islamic understanding, Heaven is a paradisiacal relief. In old Egyptian beliefs, the otherworld is Aaru, the reed-fields of ideal hunting and fishing grounds where the dead lived after judgment. For the Celts, it was the Fortunate Isle of Mag Mell. For the classical Greeks, the Elysian fields was a paradisiacal land of plenty where the heroic and righteous dead hoped to spend eternity. The Vedic Indians held that the physical body was destroyed by fire but recreated and reunited in the Third Heaven in a state of bliss. In Buddhism, paradise and the heaven are synonymous, with higher levels available to beings who have achieved special attainments of virtue and meditation. In the Zoroastrian Avesta, the "Best Existence" and the "House of Song" are places of the righteous dead. On the other hand, in cosmogonical contexts 'paradise' describes the world before it was tainted by evil. The concept is a theme in art and literature, particularly of the pre-Enlightenment era, a well-known representative of which is John Milton's Paradise Lost.

Book Paradise Lost and Its Sequel Paradise Regained Illustrated Edition

Download or read book Paradise Lost and Its Sequel Paradise Regained Illustrated Edition written by John Milton and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Paradise Lost" is an epic poem in blank verse by the 17th-century English poet John Milton. It was originally published in 1667 in ten books, with a total of over ten thousand individual lines of verse. It is considered by critics to be Milton's "major work", and the work helped to solidify his reputation as one of the greatest English poets of his time. The poem concerns the Biblical story of the Fall of Man: the temptation of Adam and Eve by the fallen angel Satan and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden. Milton's purpose, stated in Book I, is to "justify the ways of God to men". "Paradise Regained" is a poem by Milton, published in 1671. It is connected by name to his earlier and more famous epic poem "Paradise Lost," with which it shares similar theological themes. It deals with the subject of the temptation of Christ. John Milton (1608 – 1674) was an English poet, polemicist, a scholarly man of letters, and a civil servant for the Commonwealth of England under Oliver Cromwell. Milton's poetry and prose reflect deep personal convictions, a passion for freedom and self-determination, and the urgent issues and political turbulence of his day.
