Download or read book Fluid Sealing written by B. Nau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 716 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With this 13th in the series of International Conferences on Fluid Sealing these meetings move into their third decade. To be precise it is now thirty-one years since BHRA, as it then was, convened, with no little trepidation, the first of these Conferences in Ashford, England. The massive set of proceedings now occupies a considerable length of shelf in my bookcase and represents a tremendous technological resource - over 400 separate papers. It is interesting that I seem to refer most often to the earlier volumes, probably most of all to the very first. Perhaps this is because this volume marks the beginning of "historic times", AD 0, for fluid sealing technology. There were of course important publications in this field even before 1961. A notable example is the seminal work of my predecessor at BHRA, Dr D. F. Denny, whose researches on reciprocating fluid power seals, "The sealing mechanism of flexible packings", was published in 1947 by a long since defunct government department, the Ministry of Supply. Another notable source is the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' 1957 Conference on Lubrication and Wear. However, there is more to fluid st". aling technology than just tribology, as we must now call lubrication and wear, interest in static seals has really come to the fore in recent years - witness the large batch of papers dealing with this subject in the present Conference.

Building on the practical, stepped approach of its predecessor, Seals and Sealing Handbook, 6th Edition remains an essential reference for any engineer or designer who uses seals in their work. - A comprehensive reference covering a broad range of seal types for all situations, to ensure that you are able to select the most appropriate seal for any given task - Includes supporting case studies and a unique 'Failure Guide' to help you troubleshoot if things go wrong - New edition includes the most up-to-date information on sealing technology, making it an essential reference for anyone who uses seals in their work
Download or read book Physical Test Methods for Elastomers written by Roger Brown and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-18 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides comprehensive coverage of all aspects of physical testing of elastomers (rubbers and thermoplastic elastomers) including mechanical, electrical, thermal and all aspects of durability. Elastomers are an important class of materials used in such products as tyres, seals and hose which have markedly different properties to other materials. The importance of testing of elastomers means that a comprehensive text on the subject is essential. The advantage over general materials testing books is being more specific while the advantage over general rubber technology books is that testing is dealt with in depth.

Download or read book Thinning Films and Tribological Interfaces written by D. Dowson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-09-01 with total page 857 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of fully peer-reviewed papers were presented at the 26th Leeds-Lyon Tribology Symposium which was held in Leeds, UK, 14-17 September, 1999. The Leeds-Lyon Symposia on Tribology were launched in 1974, and the large number of references to original work published in the Proceedings over many years confirms the quality of the published papers. It also indicates that the volumes have served their purpose and become a recognised feature of the tribological literature. This year's title is 'Thinning Films and Tribological Interfaces', and the papers cover practical applications of tribological solutions in a wide range of situations. The evolution of a full peer review process has been evident for a number of years. An important feature of the Leeds-Lyon Symposia is the presentation of current research findings. This remains an essential feature of the meetings, but for the 26th Symposium authors were invited to submit their papers for review a few weeks in advance of the Symposium. This provided an opportunity to discuss recommendations for modifications with the authors.

Download or read book Component Surfaces written by Jan C. Aurich and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sheds new light on component surfaces and the scientific fundamentals of their creation, characterization, and application. The book also provides a new interdisciplinary perspective on the topic, studying component surfaces with a multiscale approach and linking fundamental and applied research. The book builds on the success of the coordinated research project funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) from 2011 – 2023: the CollaborativeResearch Center CRC 926 “Microscale Morphology of Component Surfaces (MI-COS)”, in which, over the years, 100+ researchers have co-operated at the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and affiliated institutes, yielding 500+ scientific papers in journals from different fields of science and engineering. Divided into 2 main parts, the book starts with an introduction to the concept of Manufacturing-Morphology-Property (MMP) Relationships and dives into the fundamentals and technologies, including topics such as the geometrical, microstructural, and chemical characterization, indentation, and scratching on the nanoscale, micro milling and micro grinding, cryogenic machining, cold spraying, and additive manufacturing. In the first part, readers discover more about the interactions between particles and surfaces, the interrelationship of manufacturing, surface morphology and properties of titanium, the influence of manufacturing and load conditions on the phase transformation and fatigue of austenitic stainless steels, and the influence of surface morphology on fatigue and tribological behavior of Transformation-Induced-Plasticity (TRIP)/Twinning-Induced Plasticity (TWIP) Steels. The second part of this book is devoted to the applications of component surfaces, covering topics like the manufacturing of areal material measures, MMP relationships for rotating shaft sealing systems, the influence of the surface morphology on rolling bearing life under mixed lubrication, MMP relationships for chain joints, and MMP for biofilms. Scientists and engineers who deal with the influence of surfaces on macroscopic properties of components and who are interested in designing and manufacturing these surfaces to obtain desired component properties will understand the appeal of this work. Given its interdisciplinary breadth, the book also appeals to scholars and professionals in the fields of mechanical engineering, process engineering, and physics.
