Book excerpt: Panzer Tracts No. 15-2 - mittlere Schuetzenpanzerwagen (Sd.Kfz.251) -History of Variants, Production, Organization, Issue, Tactics, and Employment in Action from 1939 to 1942 - A trip was made to the end of the earth (well, South Africa anyway) to accurately mea-sure the surviving Ausf.B and numerous trips (a bit closer to home) were made to thoroughly measure a surviving Ausf.C with a riveted armor body in order to create detailed as-built drawings. This in depth research also allowed the creation of accurate drawings of the related Ausf.A and the often misidentified mittlere ungepanzerte Mannschaftstransportwagen (Sd.Kfz.251). This book is also loaded with new information on the history, production, unit organization, issue, tactics, and wartime reports from front-line units. In accordance with our high standards, the text and data are based solely on primary sources. 24 drawings and 56 rare photos illustrate this 52 page book.

Book SdKfz 251 Half Track 1939 45

Download or read book SdKfz 251 Half Track 1939 45 written by Bruce Culver and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07-20 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following in the best traditions of German ingenuity in design and construction of armoured vehicles, the SdKfz 251 firmly realised the concept of a competent cross-country tactical vehicle for armoured infantry units. So successful was this half-track that not only did a modified version of it remain in use with Czech forces well into the 1980s but also, ironically, the armoured infantry tactics that the Germans pioneered with it were adopted by Allied forces in the Second World War and helped them to achieve the eventual defeat of Germany. This book covers the genesis and development of the SdKfz 251, and details the numerous modifications and variations that sprang from combat experience.

Book German Self Propelled Artillery Guns of the Second World War

Download or read book German Self Propelled Artillery Guns of the Second World War written by Craig Moore and published by Fonthill Media. This book was released on 2019-03-19 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: • One of the few books that explores the design and deployment of German artillery self-propelled guns (SPGs) to support tanks and infantry during the Second World War • A great reference book for military modellers, historians and tank wargamers interested in German SPGs • A comprehensive guide to German SPGs between 1939 and 1945 in one volume for the very first time, including previously unpublished information on the little-known Hummel-Wespe proving that at least twelve units were built • Authentic camouflage suggestions for military modellers A single towed artillery gun required a team of six horses and nine men. During the Second World War, German engineers mounted an artillery gun on top of a tank chassis; this new technology reduced the amount of valuable war resources as self-propelled guns only required a four- or five-man crew. They could also be made ready to fire more rapidly. German Self-Propelled Artillery Guns of the Second World War covers the development and use of this new weapon between 1939 and 1945. One type was successfully deployed in the invasion of France in 1940 and more were used on the Eastern Front against Soviet forces from 1941 until the end of the war. The ‘Desert Fox’ (Ewin Rommel) demanded artillery guns that could keep up with his panzers in North Africa. He was sent 15-cm howitzers mounted on top of Panzer II tank chassis’ and captured French Army Lorraine 37L-tracked armoured supply vehicles. Rommel’s forces in northern France were equipped with a variety of new self-propelled guns, which were used against the Allies on the beaches of Normandy during D-Day in 1944. • Includes 81 colour photographs
