Download or read book Principles of Sequence Stratigraphy written by Octavian Catuneanu and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2022-07-22 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Sequence Stratigraphy, Second Edition presents principles to practical workflow that guide applications in a consistent manner that is independent of model, geological setting and the types and resolution of the data available. The book explains the points of agreement and difference between the various approaches to sequence stratigraphy, while also defining the common ground that affords the standard application of the method. This enables the practitioner to avoid nomenclatural and methodological confusions and apply sequence stratigraphy. The text is richly illustrated with hundreds of full-color diagrams and examples of outcrop, borehole and seismic data. The book's balanced approach helps students and professionals acquire a sound understanding of the concepts and methodology. It will appeal to geologists, geophysicists and engineers with interest in basin analysis, stratigraphy and sedimentology, as well as in all economic applications that concern the exploration and production of natural resources, including water, hydrocarbons, coal and sediment-hosted mineral deposits. - Updates the award-winning first edition in all aspects of sequence stratigraphy, from the underlying theory to the practical applications - Presents the standard approach to sequence stratigraphic methodology, nomenclature, and classification; the role of modeling in sequence stratigraphy, and the difference between modeling and methodology - Discusses the roles of scale and stratigraphic resolution in sequence stratigraphy, and the workflow that affords a consistent application of the method irrespective of the types of data available - Describes the three-dimensional nature of the stratigraphic architecture, and the variability of stratigraphic sequences with the tectonic setting, depositional setting, and the climatic regime - Illustrates all concepts with high-quality, full-color diagrams, outcrop photographs, and subsurface well data and seismic images

This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume atempts to explore and clarify the relationship among the geological records, the extinctions, and the causes of catastrophes for life in Earth's history. Most of the papers address the geological record and the extinctions across the Cretaceou-Teriary boundary, and the buried Chicxulub structure that is now consensually deemed to be of impact origin and to be intimately related to that boundary." Download or read book Paleocene Pliocene Deltaic to Inner Shelf Palynostratigraphic Zonation Depositional Environments and Paleoclimates in the Imperial Adgo F 28 Well Beaufort Mackenzie Basin written by Geoffrey Norris and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes results of a study to document the palynological record in a hydrocarbon exploration well that penetrated 3,200 metres of sediments through Tertiary strata in the Mackenzie Delta area. The result is a pollen distribution analysis that will serve as a standard for Tertiary sequences anywhere in the Arctic and subarctic regions of the world. Over 200 species were analyzed to produce the resulting zonation. The fossils studied also provide valuable information about the environments in which the deltaic and associated marine shelf sediments were deposited, and record the progressively cooling climatic conditions. Systematic taxonomic descriptions of species new to science or new to the area are included.

Download or read book The Campanian Maastrichtian Stage Boundary written by Gilles S. Odin and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 2001 with total page 926 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Phanerozoic calendar of the history of the earth is composed of fundamental units called stages. A priority of the International Commission on Stratigraphy is to redefine these stages using a modern approach. This work presents a unique solution to the previously debated and diversified locations of the Campanian-Maastrichtian boundary, providing a precise correlation using the most accepted known time markers. The Campanian and the Maastrichtian are the last two stages of the Cretaceous System. This volume includes a large amount of previously unpublished stratigraphical data. With the use of uncertainty margins for observations, established by comparison of results obtained by various experts using different approaches for the same stratigraphical tool, a new approach to stratigraphical information was employed. While most of the data have been taken from the recently rediscovered geological site at Tercis, France, data from other sections around the world have been considered. The section studied at Tercis is the best stratigraphical record on Earth for the period of several million years across the Campanian-Maastrichtian boundary.
Download or read book Geology and Depositional Setting of the Late Cretaceous Upper Bearpaw and Lower Horseshoe Canyon Formations in the Dodds Round Hill Coalfield of Central Alberta written by J. D. Hughes and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1984 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report is based on an application of computer-based methods and current sedimentologic principles to the study of a well explored coalfield in central Alberta. The author has endeavored to relate lateral and vertical relationships within interseam clastic sediments to coal seam geometry and to depositional processes. This is the first such computer based, detailed analysis of a large amount of high-quality subsurface data, and it is hoped that the principles defined herein may assist future interpretations in other coalfields where lesser amounts of data are available." --
