Book excerpt: Pics 4 Passion was a project created by Hannah to demonstrate how mental health appears in different people. Everyone goes through their own experiences and Hannah wanted to be able to show each person’s story through photography instead of words - Because a picture is worth a thousand words. Sometimes with mental health there are no words and photographs are the only way to get your point across. Telling your story is an amazing and brave thing to do, but showing it with visual representation is even better. Pics 4 Passion will continue to grow and expand as people become more educated, accepting, and comfortable with the topic of mental health and we all start implementing self care into our daily lives. @

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bright and the Good examines the connection between intellectual and moral virtues both through the history of philosophy and as it can be illustrated in comprehensive examinations of specific virtues. The first part of the book investigates the original assumptions posited by Ancient Western philosophers concerning the apparent connection between moral and intellectual virtues. The second part follows the assumptions through history from the Medieval and Modern periods of philosophy, noting how the assumption has been tweaked to accommodate specific ideological and scientific precepts. The third part showcases inquiries into specific virtues, taking the reader on an investigation unfettered by any specific time period or ideology so as to consider the apparent connection between the moral and the intellectual on a case-by-case basis. These essays relate both historical context and contemporary concerns and examine topics including vice, ignorance, hope, courage, patience, justice and mercy.

  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2015-05-01

Download or read book The Psychology of Passion written by Dr Robert J. Vallerand and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015-05-01 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2017 APA William James Book Award The concept of passion is one we regularly use to describe our interests, and yet there is no broad theory that can explain the development and consequences of passion for activities across people's lives. In The Psychology of Passion, Robert J. Vallerand presents the first such theory, providing a complete presentation of the Dualistic Model of Passion and the empirical evidence that supports it. Vallerand conceives of two types of passion: harmonious passion, which remains under the person's control, and obsessive passion, which controls the person. While the first typically leads to adaptive behaviors, the obsessive form of passion leads to less adaptive and, at times, maladaptive behaviors. Vallerand highlights the effects of these two types of passion on a number of psychological phenomena, such as cognition, emotions, performance, relationships, aggression, and violence. He also discusses the development of passion and reviews a range of literature on passion for activities.
