Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the sources, distribution, analytical methods, and monitoring of Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in the occupational environment. It is hoped that this book will make a contribution to understanding the formation and determination of PAH in work atmosphere and that it will make a particular contribution to occupational health projects. Much of the information given in this book has been generating in studies carried out in cooperation with the Norwegian aluminium industry.

Download or read book WHO Guidelines for Indoor Air Quality written by and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2010 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents WHO guidelines for the protection of public health from risks due to a number of chemicals commonly present in indoor air. The substances considered in this review, i.e. benzene, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, naphthalene, nitrogen dioxide, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (especially benzo[a]pyrene), radon, trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene, have indoor sources, are known in respect of their hazardousness to health and are often found indoors in concentrations of health concern. The guidelines are targeted at public health professionals involved in preventing health risks of environmental exposures, as well as specialists and authorities involved in the design and use of buildings, indoor materials and products. They provide a scientific basis for legally enforceable standards.

Download or read book Postlabelling Methods for Detection of DNA Adducts written by D. H. Phillips and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book devoted to postlabelling methods, an important new analytical methodology. Postlabelling methods have a wide range of applications: these include studies of pathways of metabolic activation of chemical carcinogens, studies of oxidative damage to DNA, monitoring occupational exposure to carcinogens, the association between DNA adducts and disease, the possible role of DNA adducts in hormonal carcinogenesis and aging, the study of complex environmental mixtures of carcinogens and monitoring the effects of such mixtures on various ecosystems. Because of the high sensitivity of the postlabelling methods, they can also be applied to humans who are exposed to low levels, and many groups have concentrated their efforts towards the evaluation of adduct formation in relation to exposure and identification of cancer causing agents.
Download or read book Handbook of Naturally Occurring Food Toxicants written by Miloslav Rechcigl and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-02-01 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade an increased concern has been voiced against various environmental hazards, particularly chemicals that may cause harm to humans or animals. Numerous studies which have dealt with this subject invariably have focused on chemical contaminants of some component of a food chain. In contrast, much less attention has been paid to the potentially harmful substances that may occur in foodstuffs naturally. The purpose of this Handbook is to sensitize the reader to this problem and to provide a systematic overview of the most important naturally occurring food toxicants. The Handbook should be of interest to anybody who is concerned with nutritive and health aspects of food. Inasmuch as many of the discussed toxicants can be removed or destroyed by a suitable method of food rpocessing it should be of special value to food technologists.

Download or read book The MAK Collection for Occupational Health and Safety written by Andrea Hartwig and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-05-20 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides documentations for the established MAK values (maximum workplace concentrations) of selected occupational toxicants, including an authoritative review of the available toxicological studies and data. For each substance, the toxic effects, mechanisms and modes of action, toxicogenetics and metabolism, effects in man and animals are described. In addition, the carcinogenic, germ-cell mutagenic, sensitizing or skin-resorptive effects as well as their toxicity to the reproductive system are evaluated, plus basic physico-chemical data are provided. The documentations are thus not only essential for the application of MAK values but also provide a concise toxicological overview for each substance.
