Download or read book Post Anesthesia Care written by James W. Heitz and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-08-22 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The initial hours after surgery are a critical time in the care of the surgical patient. Familiarity with the clinical presentation of perioperative complications is important to achieving optimal outcomes. By taking an approach to complications based upon signs and symptoms seen in the early post-operative period among adult patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery, this book aids the practitioner in the clinical management of surgical patients during the often turbulent hours after surgery. After a brief introduction to PACU organization, this manual discusses the common and most serious symptoms encountered in the post-operative patient, giving guidance on diagnosis of the underlying disorder and the treatment options available. The book also includes chapters dedicated to subspecialty patients, including patients requiring post-operative mechanical ventilation, pediatric patients, patients with implantable cardiac devices, morbidly obese patients and the complex pain patient. This practical manual is essential reading for all practitioners working in the PACU environment.
Download or read book The Doctor and Mr Dylan written by Rick Novak and published by Montelago Press. This book was released on 2017-10-06 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second edition of the 2014 bestselling medical-legal novel. Dr. Nico Antone, an anesthesiologist at Stanford University, is married to Alexandra, a high-powered real estate agent obsessed with money. Their son, Johnny, an 11th-grader with immense potential, struggles to get the grades he'll need to attend an Ivy League college. After a screaming match with Alexandra, Nico moves himself and Johnny from Palo Alto, California, to his frozen childhood home of Hibbing, Minnesota. The move helps Johnny improve his grades and thus seem more attractive to universities, but Nico loves the freedom from his wife. Hibbing also happens to be the hometown of music icon Bob Dylan. Joining the hospital staff, Nico runs afoul of a psychotic nurse anesthetist who calls himself Bobby Dylan, who plays Dylan songs twice a week in a bar called Heaven's Door, and who believes he is the real Bob Dylan. As Nico and Johnny settle in at Hibbing, their lives turn around, until the soulless Alexandra dies, which accelerates the downfall of Dr. Antone, who is accused of her murder. The medical realism and subsequent courtroom realism and big university atmosphere versus small Minnesota town make this novel ring true. The author's medical expertise is central to the plot, and the author's career as a medical expert witness brings sizzling energy to the concluding courtroom scenes.

This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care provide health-care workers (HCWs), hospital administrators and health authorities with a thorough review of evidence on hand hygiene in health care and specific recommendations to improve practices and reduce transmission of pathogenic microorganisms to patients and HCWs. The present Guidelines are intended to be implemented in any situation in which health care is delivered either to a patient or to a specific group in a population. Therefore, this concept applies to all settings where health care is permanently or occasionally performed, such as home care by birth attendants. Definitions of health-care settings are proposed in Appendix 1. These Guidelines and the associated WHO Multimodal Hand Hygiene Improvement Strategy and an Implementation Toolkit (http://www.who.int/gpsc/en/) are designed to offer health-care facilities in Member States a conceptual framework and practical tools for the application of recommendations in practice at the bedside. While ensuring consistency with the Guidelines recommendations, individual adaptation according to local regulations, settings, needs, and resources is desirable. This extensive review includes in one document sufficient technical information to support training materials and help plan implementation strategies. The document comprises six parts.

Download or read book Global Cleft Care in Low Resource Settings written by Jordan W. Swanson and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-05 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cleft lip and palate represents the most common congenital facial anomaly. Congenital anomalies are one of the top 10 causes of disability and suffering in many low and middle income countries (LMICs.) Further, an estimated 30% of the global burden of disease is treated primarily through surgery, and among surgical conditions, treating clefts conveys disproportionately large benefit relative to cost because suffering can be halted at a young age and deliver a lifetime of health. Over the last 50 years, cleft care has advanced in low-resource settings through international surgical missions and the efforts of sparse local providers. While exciting anecdotes of impact abound from these efforts, recent studies have identified a complication rate that often exceeds 50% and there is concern about the sustainability of foreign volunteer missions. This book serves as a thorough resource for providing medical and surgical care of cleft lip and palate deformities in low-resource settings, geared to the context of those settings. The content is consensus-based and evidence-based, with emphasis on treatment that is appropriate to a low-resource context and how this differs from that in higher-resource environments. It is authored by recognized cleft experts in close partnership with providers who practice in low-resource settings. It is heavily pictorially based through illustrative figures, photos and diagrams, to be facile for those who speak English as a second language. Following the introduction, Complete Cleft Care in Low-Resource Settings has six main sections: patient workup, surgical treatment, comprehensive care, educational innovation, care delivery models, and finally a series of illustrative case studies. Uniquely, the book’s breadth encompasses cleft care comprehensively, but does so through a practical “how to” format with many “from the field” examples of what has worked.
