Book Performance of Ceria Supported Monometallic and Bimetallic Single atom Catalysts in Carbon Monoxide Oxidation

Download or read book Performance of Ceria Supported Monometallic and Bimetallic Single atom Catalysts in Carbon Monoxide Oxidation written by Nicholas A. Pantelis and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research into atomically-dispersed metal catalysts on metal-oxide supports like ceria and alumina has grown significantly due to these catalysts' increased performance relative to bulk, nanoparticle, and sub-nanometer metal catalysts. Atomically dispersed, single atom catalysts have been shown to increase the specific activity of metal catalysts on metal-oxide supports. This study mainly focuses on difference in kinetic behavior of single-atom palladium, platinum, and nickel adatoms supported on ceria support during the oxidation of carbon monoxide. The relationship between metal weight-loading on a ceria support, reactor temperature, and reaction order was described. Bimetallic single atom catalysts of palladium and platinum on ceria were studied to compare to monometallic systems in terms of activity. Catalysts were characterized using ICP and CO-DRIFTS analysis, and a differential packed-bed reactor was used carry out the oxidation reaction; the effluent stream was analyzed using a GC to determine reaction kinetics. It was determined that CO binds most strongly to Pt, followed by Pd, and then Ni. The transition from single atom to sub-nanometer nanoparticles or nanoparticles shows a decrease in specific activity with increasing weight loading. At relatively larger weight loadings, for each metal, the order in CO transitions from above 1 to 0 (or slightly negative), while the order in O2 transitions from slightly negative or 0 to above 1. Pd, Pt, and Ni, at similar nominal weight loadings, have similar activities in different temperature ranges; this observation shows CO poisons the metal site but does not explain why at low weight loadings the order in CO increases above 1. Binding energies between metals and ceria as well as metal and CO may explain this observation. Bimetallic Pd/Pt catalysts seem to show apparent synergy due to the fact that the activation energy decreases well below the activation energy of monometallic systems of Pd and Pt.

Book Spillover and Mobility of Species on Solid Surfaces

Download or read book Spillover and Mobility of Species on Solid Surfaces written by A. Guerrero-Ruiz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-08-02 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Spillover and Mobility of Species and Solid Surfaces" collects the papers which were presented at the Fifth International Conference Spillover, either as oral or poster contributions, as well as the summaries of the invited lectures. This congress and its publication in the Studies on Surface Science and Catalysis series follow the tradition of previous conferences on spillover, initiated in Lyon, 1983, and continued in Leipzig, 1989, Kyoto 1993 and Dalian, 1997. For the fifth conference, held in S.L. el Escorial (Madrid), the organising committee has attempted to compile representative contributions which illustrate the advances in understanding the spillover phenomenon since 1997. Spillover is a process taking place during the interface of gas reactant molecules (mainly hydrogen and oxygen) on solid surfaces. However, different contributions to the more general area of the chemistry at surfaces, related with the mobility and migration of species, diffusion through membranes, fuel cell catalysts, etc., have also been included. In fact the title of the present volume summarizes this attempt to extend the conference topics towards dynamics at surfaces.Among the 70 contributions received, the 56 accepted papers were selected on the basis of the reports of at least two international reviewers, according to standards comparable to those applied for other specialised journals. These papers are from 21 different countries.

Book Catalysts for the Oxidation of Carbon Monoxide at Low Temperatures

Download or read book Catalysts for the Oxidation of Carbon Monoxide at Low Temperatures written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four catalysts (hopcalite, Whetlerite, a supported palladium, and a supported platinum) were tested for efficiency in promoting the oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO). At room temperature and 50% RH, hopcalite has no catalytic capability and platinum has practically none. At room temperature and 15% RH, hopcalite is superior to platinum in catalyzing the oxidation of CO. Hopcalite is more efficient than either of the other three catalysts in the 52 to 66 C (125 to 150 F) temperature range at both humidities. Platinum and palladium are superior to both hopcalite and Whetlerite at both humidities in the 113 to 135 C (235 to 275 F) temperature range. Higher humidity decreases the CO-oxidizing capabilities of hopcalite and Whetlerite but does not do so for platinum and palladium. Whetlerite is in the lower-performing group of catalysts under all except one of the different conditions used in the tests. For the hopcalite, palladium, and platinum catalysts there is a temperature below 135 C (275 F) and above 68 C (155 F) at which CO can be oxidized efficiently.
