The thesis compares three different relational concepts from varying theories that aid in the process of healing inner child wounds. The three concepts explored include the transitional object, the solacer, and the selfobject experience. The author uses a depth psychological lens to explore both experiences of the ocean and imaginal engagement with the image of the ocean as therapeutic tools to heal one's wounded inner child. The author's account of her personal journey in writing this thesis and her connection to the ocean demonstrate the functionality of an imaginal and experiential relationship with nature as a transitional object, solacer, or selfobject that provides support for the process of healing inner child wounds.
