Book Our Hearts Beat the Same

Download or read book Our Hearts Beat the Same written by Lindsay Wheland, MS and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2022-08-26 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our Hearts Beat the Same By: Lindsay Wheland, MS Our Hearts Beat the Same is a heartfelt story based upon a real student that Lindsay Wheland, MS, taught when she was an elementary teacher at Mayfield Elementary School. This story brings to life a child with autism who was mainstreamed into a first-grade classroom. It highlights his (and his family's) struggles to be accepted and understood. This child taught Lindsay a huge lesson about acceptance and tolerance. It also demonstrates how all children are different and special in their own way and deserve the chance to shine in their environment. Another important lesson this book offers is how all children can develop understanding and acceptance if fostered by adults in their environment. It is meant to teach children how to love others and see past the physical and/or mental disabilities.

Book I Know How Furiously Your Hear T Is Beating

Download or read book I Know How Furiously Your Hear T Is Beating written by and published by . This book was released on 2019-02 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Taking its name from a line in the Wallace Stevens' poem "The Gray Room," Alec Soth's latest book is a lyrical exploration of the limitations of photographic representation. While these large-format color photographs are made all over the world, they aren't about any particular place or population. By a process of intimate and often extended engagement, Soth's portraits and images of his subject's surroundings involve an enquiry into the extent to which a photographic likeness can depict more than the outer surface of an individual, and perhaps even plumb the depths of something unknowable about both the sitter and the photographer"--The publisher.

Book Heart Beats

    Book Details:
  • Author : Catherine Robson
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2012
  • ISBN : 0691119368
  • Pages : 314 pages

Download or read book Heart Beats written by Catherine Robson and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people in Great Britain and the United States can recall elderly relatives who remembered long stretches of verse learned at school decades earlier, yet most of us were never required to recite in class. Heart Beats is the first book to examine how poetry recitation came to assume a central place in past curricular programs, and to investigate when and why the once-mandatory exercise declined. Telling the story of a lost pedagogical practice and its wide-ranging effects on two sides of the Atlantic, Catherine Robson explores how recitation altered the ordinary people who committed poems to heart, and changed the worlds in which they lived. Heart Beats begins by investigating recitation's progress within British and American public educational systems over the course of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and weighs the factors that influenced which poems were most frequently assigned. Robson then scrutinizes the recitational fortunes of three short works that were once classroom classics: Felicia Hemans's "Casabianca," Thomas Gray's "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard," and Charles Wolfe's "Burial of Sir John Moore after Corunna." To conclude, the book considers W. E. Henley's "Invictus" and Rudyard Kipling's "If--," asking why the idea of the memorized poem arouses such different responses in the United States and Great Britain today. Focusing on vital connections between poems, individuals, and their communities, Heart Beats is an important study of the history and power of memorized poetry.

Book The Life in My Years

Download or read book The Life in My Years written by Virginia McKenna and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virginia McKenna starred in some of the most popular and enduring movies of our time, among them Carve Her Name With Pride, A Town Like Alice and the phenomenally successful Born Free, in which she and husband Bill Travers depicted the story of conservationists George and Joy Adamson and their reintroduction of Elsa the orphaned lion cub to the wild. At the heart of this autobiography is a call to respect nature and all that it provides. Despite an exceptional career in cinema and theatre, Virginia McKenna pushed aside the glamour of movie stardom, the West End and Broadway to focus relentlessly on her personal mission with the Born Free Foundation or the plight of orphaned children across the world. Now in a paperback edition, this book will inspire anyone who cares about the future of the planet and all the creatures dependent on it, including human beings. The Life in My Years is the inspirational story of an extraordinary life.
