Download or read book Our American Being Righteously Free written by Jim Bowman and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-09-20 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to raise the public’s curiosity and interest so as to produce a better understanding and appreciation of our nation’s overall being. This, in turn, should produce a more singular identity for unifying and improving our country. This humble effort will discuss the many influences and issues, which are tearing apart our American fabric. My approach may seem out of the so-called mainstream, even infuriating at times, but this perception reflects just how far off course we have drifted from our origins of freedom and individual liberty. A grateful renewal of both individual responsibility and constitutional allegiance can represent the initial doses leading to our American cure. This book will hopefully inspire both. My point is the ageless adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” since this advice always works! And so does our constitutional brand of liberty! Enjoy.
Download or read book The Righteous Mind written by Jonathan Haidt and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2013-02-12 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The acclaimed social psychologist challenges conventional thinking about morality, politics, and religion in a way that speaks to conservatives and liberals alike—a “landmark contribution to humanity’s understanding of itself” (The New York Times Book Review). Drawing on his twenty-five years of groundbreaking research on moral psychology, Jonathan Haidt shows how moral judgments arise not from reason but from gut feelings. He shows why liberals, conservatives, and libertarians have such different intuitions about right and wrong, and he shows why each side is actually right about many of its central concerns. In this subtle yet accessible book, Haidt gives you the key to understanding the miracle of human cooperation, as well as the curse of our eternal divisions and conflicts. If you’re ready to trade in anger for understanding, read The Righteous Mind.

This reprint is more of a reference and study tool rather than a devotional Bible. The verses all begin on their own lines to make it easier to reference certain verses and the durable paper the book is printed on makes it easier to make notes right in this Bible without having to markup that beautiful leather edition that you keep. As well the edition has replaced all the Jehovah's with what most scholars believe is the name of God in the Old Testament, Yahweh.

Download or read book Institutes of the Christian Religion written by Jean Calvin and published by Hendrickson Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 1103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hendrickson offers a one-volume hardcover edition of one of Western Christianity's foundational works. Re-typeset into a clean and modern typeface, this edition is easy to read for the modern eye. This book will appeal to libraries, seminarians, pastors, and laypeople." Institutes of the Christian Religion" by John Calvin is an introduction to the Bible and a vindication of Reformation principles by one of the Reformation's finest scholars. At the age of twenty-six, Calvin published several revisions of his "Institutes of the Christian Religion, " a seminal work in Christian theology that altered the course of Western history and that is still read by theological students today. It was published in Latin in 1536 and in his native French in 1541, with the definitive editions appearing in 1559 (Latin) and in 1560 (French). The book was written as an introductory textbook on the Protestant faith for those with some learning already and covered a broad range of theological topics from the doctrines of church and sacraments to justification by faith alone. It vigorously attacked the teachings of those Calvin considered unorthodox, particularly Roman Catholicism, to which Calvin says he had been "strongly devoted" before his conversion to Protestantism. The over-arching theme of the book--and Calvin's greatest theological legacy--is the idea of God's total sovereignty, particularly in salvation and election.

Download or read book Righteous Propagation written by Michele Mitchell and published by Univ of North Carolina Press. This book was released on 2005-10-12 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1877 and 1930--years rife with tensions over citizenship, suffrage, immigration, and "the Negro problem--African American activists promoted an array of strategies for progress and power built around "racial destiny," the idea that black Americans formed a collective whose future existence would be determined by the actions of its members. In Righteous Propagation, Michele Mitchell examines the reproductive implications of racial destiny, demonstrating how it forcefully linked particular visions of gender, conduct, and sexuality to collective well-being. Mitchell argues that while African Americans did not agree on specific ways to bolster their collective prospects, ideas about racial destiny and progress generally shifted from outward-looking remedies such as emigration to inward-focused debates about intraracial relationships, thereby politicizing the most private aspects of black life and spurring race activists to calcify gender roles, monitor intraracial sexual practices, and promote moral purity. Examining the ideas of well-known elite reformers such as Mary Church Terrell and W. E. B. DuBois, as well as unknown members of the working and aspiring classes, such as James Dubose and Josie Briggs Hall, Mitchell reinterprets black protest and politics and recasts the way we think about black sexuality and progress after Reconstruction.
