Book excerpt: “Wealth without work Pleasure without conscience Science without humanity Knowledge without character Politics without principle Commerce without morality Worship without sacrifice. https://vidjambov.blogspot.com/2023/01/book-inventory-vladimir-djambov-talmach.html Oh, a miraculous creature, Father Hierarch Seraphim! You, still alive, have to be faithful: as soon as I improve the boldness of the Lord, I will not leave you orphans. For this reason, commemorating your verbs and the works of your mercy in a temporary life, we fall in love and earnestly ask: we pray constantly at the Throne of the King of Glory for all of us, neighbors and distant, familiar and strange, weak and sinful, worshiping thee. You were enlightened from infancy to the grace of God, but in youth you have acquired a perfect mind, young men and virgins wise you. Reaching the man of age, a zealous laborer of divine virtues was thou art. For this reason, confirm us and be in favor with God, and, like a good shepherd, a good hedgehog of the sheep of Christ, have thou hast succumbed, instruct us on the path of repentance. Like the lamp of the Light of the True Enlighten us and keep us from the delusions and temptations of this world, and, like a wonderful miracle worker, do not stand to show your mercy to all who flow with love to you. Good shepherd, do not leave the flock in the lands of the Bulgarian and Russian lands and the inudes. Be an ambulance to those who invoke you from all parts of the earth, may the indescribable mercy of the Shepherd and our Lord Jesus Christ be glorified, gloriously glorify and bow to His Father without Father, and the All-Holy, and the Good, and His Life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and forever and ever. Amen. and forever and ever. Amen. and forever and ever. Amen.

Download or read book About Christmas written by Nicolae Sfetcu and published by Nicolae Sfetcu. This book was released on 2014-05-01 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christmas characters and food, Christmas-linked holidays and music, Santa Claus and traditions. Related to Annunciation, Incarnation; Crucifixion; Advent, the four weeks preceding Christmas; and the period between the day after Thanksgiving and the Sunday after New Year”s Day, the American holiday season. Christmas or Christmas Day is a holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus, the central figure of Christianity. Aspects of celebration may include gift-giving, Christmas trees, display of Nativity sets, church attendance, the Father Christmas/Santa Claus myth, and family gatherings. Users of the Gregorian calendar observe the holiday on December 25. Some Eastern Orthodox Churches celebrate on December 25 by the Julian calendar, which currently corresponds to January 7 on the Gregorian calendar. These dates are merely traditional; the great majority of scholars agree that the actual birthdate of Jesus is unknown. In Western culture, the holiday is characterized by the exchange of gifts among friends and family members, some of the gifts being attributed to Santa Claus (also known as Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, Saint Basil and Father Frost). However, various local and regional Christmas traditions are still practiced, despite the widespread influence of American, British and Australian Christmas motifs disseminated by film, popular literature, television, and other media.

Download or read book The Greek Orthodox Church in America written by Alexander Kitroeff and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-15 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this sweeping history, Alexander Kitroeff shows how the Greek Orthodox Church in America has functioned as much more than a religious institution, becoming the focal point in the lives of the country's million-plus Greek immigrants and their descendants. Assuming the responsibility of running Greek-language schools and encouraging local parishes to engage in cultural and social activities, the church became the most important Greek American institution and shaped the identity of Greeks in the United States. Kitroeff digs into these traditional activities, highlighting the American church's dependency on the "mother church," the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Constantinople, and the use of Greek language in the Sunday liturgy. Today, as this rich biography of the church shows us, Greek Orthodoxy remains in between the Old World and the New, both Greek and American.
Download or read book Painted in Words written by Samuel S Bak and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2001-09-27 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At my first sight of a painting by Samuel Bak, I had the keen sense that he was telling me stories with his brush. Now that at long last he has written this book, I find it no wonder that he has painted with his pen.... Among the tens and hundreds of books I have read about the pre-Shoah and post-Shoah period... Bak’s book is unique. Despite being suffused with a sense of loss, horror, degradation, and death, it is ultimately a sanguine, funny book, full of the love of life, rocking with an almost cathartic joy. At times I found myself bursting out laughing... a marvelous ode, a colorful hymn to the forces of life, love, creation, and the joys of the senses. —From the Foreword by Amos Oz In Painted in Words internationally renowned artist Samuel Bak sets aside his brushes to narrate the stories of his life—as a child in Nazi-occupied Vilna, as a youth in European refugee camps, and as a maturing artist in Israel, France, Italy, Switzerland, and the United States. With gentle humor, the child prodigy of the faraway past and the accomplished artist of today engage in a spirited dialogue from which emerges a self-portrait of "The Artist as a Young—and middle-aged and aging—Survivor." The brilliance, vision, and virtuosity that Bak brings to his painting are equally in evidence in his writing. This deeply touching work is an important contribution to Holocaust literature and art history.
Download or read book Communism Atheism and the Orthodox Church of Albania written by Artan R. Hoxha and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-07-01 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the relations between the Albanian communist regime and the Albanian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (AAOC) from 1945, when the communists came to power, to 1967, when Albania became the only atheistic state in the world, and religion of all kinds was completely suppressed. Based on extensive archival research, the book outlines Orthodox Church life under communism and considers the regime’s strategies to control, use, and subordinate the Church. It argues against a simple state oppression versus Church resistance scenario, showing that the situation was much more complex, with neither the regime nor the Church being monolithic entities. It shows how, despite the brutality and the constant pressure of the state, the Church successfully negotiated with the communist authorities and benefited from engaging with them, and how the communist authorities used the Church as a tool of foreign policy, especially to strengthen the regime’s ties with their East European allies.
