Book excerpt: Most traditional origami concentrates only on form. Now John Montroll, a world renowned master of origami, has added new realism to his folding by integrating color patterns into this exciting collection of 28 new projects. For this second revised edition, diagrams have been improved. Each creation in this book is crafted from a single sheet of standard origami paper, white on one side and colored on the other. The papers are twisted, folded, bent almost magically to make animals and objects accurate not only in shape but also in pattern. John Montroll's raccoon wears a handsome mask, the ferocious tiger has a full set of stripes, and the technicolor Martians would grace a science-fiction movie. Besides animal projects, there are directions for elegant, multicolored geometric shapes and for a full-sized chess board, accompanied, of course, by a complete set of pieces. The instructions for each project include dozens of step-by-step, computer generated illustrations. With this book and a few packets of paper, everyone from beginner to expert can create beautiful works of origami art.

Book Flexagons Inside Out

Download or read book Flexagons Inside Out written by Les Pook and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flexagons are hinged polygons that have the intriguing property of displaying different pairs of faces when they are flexed. Workable paper models of flexagons are easy to make and entertaining to manipulate. Flexagons have a surprisingly complex mathematical structure and just how a flexagon works is not obvious on casual examination of a paper model. Flexagons may be appreciated at three different levels. Firstly as toys or puzzles, secondly as a recreational mathematics topic and finally as the subject of serious mathematical study. This book is written for anyone interested in puzzles or recreational maths. No previous knowledge of flexagons is assumed, and the only pre-requisite is some knowledge of elementary geometry. An attractive feature of the book is a collection of nets, with assembly instructions, for a wide range of paper models of flexagons. These are printed full size and laid out so they can be photocopied.

Book Star Wars Origami

Download or read book Star Wars Origami written by and published by Workman Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08-07 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kids love origami—and what could be cooler than transforming a piece of paper into Boba Fett, Princess Leia, Yoda, or R2-D2? And not just any paper, but custom-designed paper illustrated with art from the movies. Star Wars® Origami marries the fun of paper folding with the obsession of Star Wars. Like The Joy of Origami and Origami on the Go, this book puts an original spin on an ancient art. And like Star Wars® Scanimation® and Star Wars® Fandex®, it’s a fresh take on Star Wars mania. Chris Alexander is a master folder and founder of the popular website StarWarsOrigami.com, and here are 36 models, clearly explained, that range in difficulty from Youngling (easy) to Padawan (medium), Jedi Knight (difficult), and Jedi Master (tricky!). A front section introduces origami definitions and basic folds. Bound in the back is the book’s unique folding paper, two sheets for each figure. Illustrated with original art, it makes each creation—the essential lightsabers, the Death Star, and much more—true to the movies. Star Wars Origami includes a foreword by Tom Angleberger, author of the New York Times bestsellers The Strange Case of Origami Yoda and Darth Paper Strikes Back, and is scheduled to be published at the same time as Angleberger’s upcoming book, The Secret of the Fortune Wookiee.

Book Twist and Tess

Book excerpt: With a prologue by Tomoko Fuse, the worldwide renowned Japanese origami master, the book contains 26 of my favourite tessellations, along other designs derived from those models (3 boxes and 2 "omiyage/tato). The book starts with an introduction to the origins and history of tessellations and describes the techniques and materials needed by those who want to begin with this kind of origami. The models are sorted based on the twists used in each one and include suggestions based on my own folding experience. For each model, a CP (crease pattern) is included, along with step by step instructions to fold it. Those instructions contain diagrams and their related text. At the end of each model you can see the picture of the finished model (usually in the extended version). Scattered between the different models, the reader can see the original hand drawn diagrams by Alejandra Zapico, that were the base of the final computer drawn diagrams. At the end of the book, there are several appendices, such as a small english-spanish origami dictionary, the symbol guide for those used in the book and several references related to tessellations.
