Download or read book Mechanism and Synthesis written by P G Taylor and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book pursues possible strategies for synthesising mainly organic compounds, particularly those of interest to the health sector and related industries. Topics covered include addition reactions of aldehydes and ketones; the use of organometallic reagents to form carbon-carbon bonds (eg Grignard reagents); and radical reactions, including selectivity and chain reactions. Retrosynthetic analysis is introduced as a strategy for developing syntheses, along with biochemical pathways. Mechanism and Synthesis concludes with a Case Study on polymers, which demonstrates how chain reactions can be used to build up useful materials with specific properties, such as contact lenses. The Molecular World series provides an integrated introduction to all branches of chemistry for both students wishing to specialise and those wishing to gain a broad understanding of chemistry and its relevance to the everyday world and to other areas of science. The books, with their Case Studies and accompanying multi-media interactive CD-ROMs, will also provide valuable resource material for teachers and lecturers. (The CD-ROMs are designed for use on a PC running Windows 95, 98, ME or 2000.)

Download or read book Main Group Metal Organometallics in Organic Synthesis written by A. McKillop and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-09-16 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The individual chapters in this volume cover the scope and impact of main group organometallic compounds and reagents on organic synthesis during the last ten to fifteen years. In a number of chapters, topics are dealt with in detail that either were not covered at all in COMC (eg selenium, tellurium) or were given scant attention (eg oxymercuration, organoantimony compounds). Certain topics, like directed metallation and LiKOR bases have only achieved prominence in synthesis in the last ten years, and are now reviewed by leading experts.

Book Index to Reviews Symposia Volumes and Monographs in Organic Chemistry

Download or read book Index to Reviews Symposia Volumes and Monographs in Organic Chemistry written by Norman Kharasch and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Index to Reviews, Symposia Volumes and Monographs in Organic Chemistry for the Period 1940-1960 presents a resume of published monographs, reviews, and symposia lectures in organic chemistry. The editors adopted the plan of listings by symposia volume or journal, backed up by the total subject and author indexes. In this way the user can readily locate a particular article through the author index or the subject index; or should he recall that an article appeared in a particular source, the chronological listing in that source can be scanned quickly. The Index gives a convenient overview of the accomplishments of organic chemists during this very prolific period of the growth of the field. Frequently, several articles on the same or similar subject appear, hence the historical perspective can be sensed by rapid evaluation of the reviews selected. This Index will be useful to research workers, teachers and students. It will also assist editors and authors to select specific areas which require critical review.

Book Principles of Organic Synthesis

Download or read book Principles of Organic Synthesis written by Richard O.C. Norman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 828 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed for those who have had no more than a brief introduction to organic chemistry and who require a broad understanding of the subject. The book is in two parts. In Part I, reaction mechanism is set in its wider context of the basic principles and concepts that underlie chemical reactions: chemical thermodynamics, structural theory, theories of reaction kinetics, mechanism itself and stereochemistry. In Part II these principles and concepts are applied to the formation of particular types of bonds, groupings, and compounds. The final chapter in Part II describes the planning and detailed execution of the multi-step syntheses of several complex, naturally occurring compounds.

Book Base Catalyzed Reactions of Hydrocarbons and Related Compounds

Download or read book Base Catalyzed Reactions of Hydrocarbons and Related Compounds written by Herman Pines and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Base-Catalyzed Reactions of Hydrocarbons and Related Compounds focuses on the use of bases as catalysts for the conversion of hydrocarbons and related compounds. In order to emphasize the broad scope of base-catalyzed reactions, examples dealing with the conversion of non-hydrocarbons are given. Comprised of 14 chapters, this book begins with a historical overview of base-catalyzed conversions of hydrocarbons, followed by a discussion on the isomerization of olefins, acetylenes, and allenes, as well as the dimerization and oligomerization of hydrocarbons. The reader is then introduced to a variety of reactions, including those between aromatic hydrocarbons and olefins and between alkylpyridines and alkenylpyridines; homogeneous carbon-carbon addition reactions; and reactions of aprotic solvents with olefins. Subsequent chapters explore carbon-carbon addition of olefins with miscellaneous compounds; addition of ammonia, amines, and anilines to olefinic hydrocarbons; hydrogenation and oxygenation; dehydrogenation, aromatization, and hydrogen transfer; and dehydration of alcohols. This monograph will be of interest to chemists.

Book Comprehensive Organometallic Analysis

Download or read book Comprehensive Organometallic Analysis written by T.R. Crompton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 907 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now some sixteen years since the author's first series of books on the analysis of organometallic compounds. Many developments in the subject have occurred since that time and a new book on the subject is now overdue. The present book aims to provide a comprehensive review of the subject. It covers not only all aspects of the analysis of organometallic compounds but also contains two additional chapters, dealing with environmental analysis and the use of chelates of metals in the determination of very low concentrations of organic metals. Whilst reviewing the literature for the present book, it was observed that whereas papers published prior to 1973 dealt almost exclusively with various forms of analysis, a high proportion of those published during the past ten years were concerned with the application of proven or newly developed methods to the determination of organometallic compounds in environmental samples such as water, air, soil, river and ocean sediments, fish life and biota samples. An increasing range of elements including mercury, lead, arsenic, tin, antimony, selenium and manganese are now being found in organically bound forms in the environment, some resulting from pollution, others formed in nature by bacterial processes. As many of these substances have appreciable implications to human and animal health and the ecosystem as a whole, it was considered that it would be timely to include a separate chapter in the book devoted entirely to this subject.
