Book Proverbs 1 9 as an Introduction to the Book of Proverbs

Download or read book Proverbs 1 9 as an Introduction to the Book of Proverbs written by Arthur Jan Keefer and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-28 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proverbs 1-9 has long been called a 'prologue' and 'introduction' to the book of Proverbs, a label that this book clarifies by answering the question: how does Proverbs 1-9 function with respect to the interpretation of Proverbs 10-31? Arthur Keefer argues that, in the detail and holistic context of Proverbs, Proverbs 1-9 functions didactically by supplying interpretive frameworks in literary, rhetorical and theological contexts for representative portions of Proverbs 10-31. Keefer suggests that Proverbs 1-9 functions didactically by teaching interpretive skills, and allows interpretation of Proverbs 10-31 by instilling the competence required to explicate this material. As a result, Proverbs 1-9 provides a didactic introduction for the remainder of the book, particularly with respect to its character types, educational goals, and theology. This volume demonstrates the function of Proverbs 1-9 for Proverbs 10-31 in some of the most prominent interpretive contexts of the book, and in doing so advances current key interpretive debates within Proverbs scholarship.

Book Student Workbook for an Easy Dig Thru 39 Ancient Sites

Download or read book Student Workbook for an Easy Dig Thru 39 Ancient Sites written by Otto Batty and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2007-07 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Otto D. Batty received most of his education from parochial schools. His first nine years were at Bethlehem Christian School in Kennewick, Washington, graduated from Concordia College-High School in Portland, Oregon in 1956. He received his A.A. degree from Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington in 1969, and B.A. degree in Education from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington in 1976. Otto majored in Social Studies with a strong emphasis in History. In 1961 while in Wyoming, Otto developed a great love for the Scripture. Over the years, he read 23 different translations and paraphrases of the Bible. He even read the Bible backwards from Revelation to Genesis. When asked why, he simply replied, "Just for fun." However, he wouldn't do it again or recommend it, saying "It was chronologically distracting." Otto has taught many Sunday School classes to both teenagers and adults. This work emerged out of those life experiences. The more Otto read the scripture the more he became excited about what he "discovered." It was quite a surprise to him to learn so many believers had never read the whole Bible through once. Filled with a hunger to encourage others to read and find the "gems" he found in the Scripture, in 1985 he wrote and taught this Bible Study with a twist. The emphasis is on "discovering the gems," not theology or doctrine. It is fast paced, fun, and simple. Its primary purpose; to encourage believers to apply Romans 10:17, "faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God."

Book Proverbs

  • Author : Bruce K. Waltke
  • Publisher : Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing
  • Release : 2021-03-23
  • ISBN : 1467462055
  • Pages : 409 pages

Download or read book Proverbs written by Bruce K. Waltke and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2021-03-23 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An abridged and revised version of Bruce Waltke’s magisterial two-volume NICOT commentary on the book of Proverbs Since 2004, Bruce Waltke’s magisterial two-volume NICOT commentary on the book of Proverbs has been recognized as a definitive exegesis of the Hebrew text, groundbreaking in its illuminating analysis that the authors and redactors of Proverbs had organized their material into discernible clusters and groupings. Waltke and Ivan De Silva here offer an abridged and revised version of the preeminent commentary, which is more accessible to students, pastors, and Bible readers in general. In place of a technical analysis of the Hebrew text, Waltke and De Silva interpret the translated text, while also including their own theological reflections and personal anecdotes where appropriate. A topical index is added to help expositors with a book that is difficult to preach or teach verse by verse. At its heart, this shorter commentary on Proverbs preserves the exegetical depth, erudition, and poetic insight of Waltke’s original and maintains the core conviction that the ancient wisdom of Proverbs holds profound, ongoing relevance for Christian faith and life today.
