Book excerpt: Traditionally resources for R and D projects are allocated via planning and budgeting procedures, evaluation methods and hierarchical decision-committees. Book Operativity And Typicality

Download or read book Operativity And Typicality written by Thomas Drepper and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-08-09 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present text discusses sense-theoretical foundations of recent organizational research and makes them visible by analyzing epistemological terms of current discourses in organizational science (cognition, institution, practice, culture, communication, semantics). In a further step, communication is discussed as an operative guiding concept for understanding organizational reproduction and networking and applied to various organizational phenomena (managementization, standardization, circulation of ideas, translation, design). This book thus sees itself both as a contribution to theory development in organizational research and as a contribution to the research field of "(world) society and organization." Overall, the individual studies in this text discuss and explore the relevance of an epistemological, social and societal foundation of organization theory on the basis of an operational theory of meaning. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation.

Book Leadership and Organization in the Aviation Industry

Download or read book Leadership and Organization in the Aviation Industry written by Marc-Philippe Lumpe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leadership and organisational structures which are not adjusted to the cultural background of the employees concerned are most likely to produce sub-optimal results (House, 2004). Therefore it is necessary to develop appropriate leadership and organisational structures in order to fully grasp the cultural environment to be encountered in the professional world. This book presents a research project that was carried out to develop leadership and organisational structures in accordance with the requirements created by different professional backgrounds within the aviation industry. The identification of the different professional cultures was undertaken using a standardised questionnaire. The development of the questionnaire was carried out with the help of the GLOBE study (House, et al., 2004), one of the most extensive research efforts ever undertaken in the field of organisational and national cultures. The main characteristic of the GLOBE study is the development of nine dimensions which serve to identify and characterise any culture. These dimensions are referred to as 'core cultural dimensions'. Using this newly developed questionnaire, it was not only possible to isolate 12 different professional cultures, but also to identify their distinguishing traits which served as the base for the subsequent development of leadership and organisational structures. The survey was complemented by open interviews served to broaden and deepen the results gained with the standardised questionnaire. The research outcomes open the door to a new and important element of cultural research, complementary to those of organisational and national cultures. Although the study was carried out in the aviation industry, the results gained also appear to be transferable to other industries due to the large variety of professions isolated within the course of the presented study and the specific nature of the aviation industry itself.

Book Gender Mainstreaming an Innovation in Europe

Download or read book Gender Mainstreaming an Innovation in Europe written by Verena Schmidt and published by Verlag Barbara Budrich. This book was released on 2005-05-12 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of gender mainstreaming has experienced an unexpected boom in the European Union and beyond since the United Nations World Conference of Women in Beijing in 1995. Starting from the evolution of gender mainstreaming, this book examines the extent to which gender mainstreaming can be regarded as an innovation and as an institution in a complex organisation like the European Commission. By ensuring that the effects on both genders of all policies and organisational processes are taken into account, gender mainstreaming seeks to bring what are often marginalised as ́women ́s concerns ́ into the mainstream of the analysis. Gender mainstreaming is often regarded as a paradigm shift compared to previous concepts of equal treatment and positive action programmes.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Organization Theory

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Organization Theory written by Haridimos Tsoukas and published by Oxford Handbooks Online. This book was released on 2003 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a forum for leading scholars in organization theory to engage in meta-theoretical reflection on the historical development, present state and future prospects of organization theory as a scientific discipline. The central question explored is the epistemological status of organization theory as a policy science. This is a meta-theoretical question; the object of analysis and debate in this volume is not a set of organizational phenomena, but organization theory itself. By drawing attention to organization theory as a practical social activity, this book reviews and evaluates important epsitemological developments in the discipline. More specifically, the focus is on issues related to the nature of knowledge claims put forward in organization theory and the controversies surrounding the generation, validation and utilization of such knowledge. About the Series Oxford Handbooks in Business & Management bring together the world's leading scholars on the subject to discuss current research and the latest thinking in a range of interrelated topics including Strategy, Organizational Behavior, Public Management, International Business, and many others. Containing completely new essays with extensive referencing to further reading and key ideas, the volumes, in hardback or paperback, serve as both a thorough introduction to a topic and a useful desk reference for scholars and advanced students alike.

Book Organization Theory and Public Management

Download or read book Organization Theory and Public Management written by Jonathan R. Tompkins and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2023-08-16 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organization Theory and Public Management is written for current and future public managers. Understanding organization theory helps managers at all levels define program objectives, overcome constraints, and accomplish mandated purposes. Armed with theoretical and conceptual knowledge, managers can better identify the factors that affect organizational performance, determine how these factors interrelate, and decide how best to resolve problems and attain goals. Familiarity with organization theory can facilitate fresh ways to view organizational challenges and discover new paths for pursuing change. Organization theory, supported by intuition and common sense, can be a powerful guide to action. The book approaches each organization theory school of thought on its own terms, drawing out its implications for public management as objectively as possible. Chapter 1 introduces organization theory as a field of study, chapter 2 establishes the unique context of public management, and chapter 3 presents three analytical frameworks for assessing the theories of organization covered in the twelve chapters that follow.

Book Organizational Trust

Download or read book Organizational Trust written by Roderick M. Kramer and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2006-11-30 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, the topic of trust moved from bit player to center stage in organizational theory and research. Whereas previously it often had been treated as a mediating variable in empirical studies - a variable of secondary interest, at best - trust emerged in the 1990s as a subject deemed important and worthy of study in its own right. Despite the importance of the topic, to date no single volume currently exists that provides the motivated reader with a sound introduction to, and reasonable overview of, this rapidly growing, widely dispersed, multi-disciplinary literature. Indeed, some of the most influential, foundational pieces remain scattered in obscure journals or books, some of which are not easily found or, in some instances, no longer even in print. Thus the individual scholar hoping to come up to speed with this literature currently had nowhere to turn. This reader provides trust scholars and researchers with a handy reference volume, a broad guide for graduate students hoping to understand and possibly contribute to this significant and still-growing literature, and a resource for teachers at the undergraduate level of undergraduate anthropology, economics, political science, psychology, organizational sciences, and sociology courses.
