Download or read book Molecular Encapsulation written by Udo H. Brinker and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-07-07 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inclusion of small guest molecules within suitable host compounds results in constrained systems that imbue novel properties upon the incarcerated organic substrates. Supramolecular tactics are becoming widely employed and this treatise spotlights them. Often, the impact of encapsulation on product formation is substantial. The use of constrained systems offers the means to steer reactions along desired pathways. A broad overview of various supramolecular approaches aimed to manipulate chemical reactions are featured. The following topics are covered in detail: - general concepts governing the assembly of the substrate with the reaction vessel - preparation of molecular reactors - stabilization of reactive intermediates - reactions in water, in organic solvents, and in the solid state - photochemical reactions - reactions with unusual regioselectivity Molecular Encapsulation: Organic Reactions in Constrained Systems is an essential guide to the art of changing the outcome and the selectivity of a chemical reaction using nano-sized reaction vessels. It will find a place on the bookshelves of students and researchers working in the areas of supramolecular chemistry, nanotechnology, organic and pharmaceutical chemistry, and materials science as well.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Chemical Manipulation Crystallisation. - Organic substances, when prepared by any given reaction, are not usually obtained in a chemically pure condition; reactions very rarely follow a quantitative course, as we find them do when dealing with inorganic materials. Thus, if dilute sulphuric acid be added to a solution of barium chloride, a precipitate is obtained which, after washing and drying, consists of pure barium sulphate if our materials have been pure to start with. On the other hand, suppose that we are carrying out a simple organic reaction, such as the preparation of nitrobenzene by the action of nitric acid on benzene. If the reaction - owing to the use of a too dilute acid - has not gone far enough, we shall find that some of the benzene is left in an unattacked condition. Book Comprehensive Organic Synthesis

Download or read book Comprehensive Organic Synthesis written by B. M. Trost and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1991-07-14 with total page 10400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of more effective routes to known materials and the production of new materials are important goals in many areas, including electronics, agriculture, medicine and textiles. Organic synthesis is central to achieving these goals. Comprehensive Organic Synthesisdraws together the common themes that underlie the many apparently disparate areas of organic chemistry which underpin synthetic strategies, thus providing a comprehensive overview of this important discipline. The contributions have been organized to reflect the way in which synthetic chemists approach a problem. In terms of organic molecules, the work is divided into formation of carbon-carbon bonds, introduction of heteroatoms and heteroatom interconversions. Thus, Volumes 1-5 focus on carbon-carbon formation, but also include aspects of heteroatom introduction. Volumes 6-8 concentrate on interconversion of heteroatoms, but also deal with exchange of carbon-carbon bonds for carbon-heteroatom bonds. Organization of the chapters is along the theme of selectivity, which is a critical question in determining the suitability of a synthetic method. Volume 9 contains cumulative author and subject indexes. Comprehensive Organic Synthesis will appeal to a wide audience. The set will be an essential reference work for all those seeking information on the solution of synthetic problems, whether they be experienced practitioners or chemists whose major interests lie outside organic synthesis. In addition, synthetic chemists requiring the essential facts in new areas, as well as students completely new to the field, will find Comprehensive Organic Synthesis an invaluable source, providing authoritative accounts of the essential facts and concepts.

Book Beyond the Molecular Frontier

    Book Details:
  • Author : National Research Council
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 2003-03-19
  • ISBN : 0309168392
  • Pages : 238 pages

Download or read book Beyond the Molecular Frontier written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-03-19 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemistry and chemical engineering have changed significantly in the last decade. They have broadened their scopeâ€"into biology, nanotechnology, materials science, computation, and advanced methods of process systems engineering and controlâ€"so much that the programs in most chemistry and chemical engineering departments now barely resemble the classical notion of chemistry. Beyond the Molecular Frontier brings together research, discovery, and invention across the entire spectrum of the chemical sciencesâ€"from fundamental, molecular-level chemistry to large-scale chemical processing technology. This reflects the way the field has evolved, the synergy at universities between research and education in chemistry and chemical engineering, and the way chemists and chemical engineers work together in industry. The astonishing developments in science and engineering during the 20th century have made it possible to dream of new goals that might previously have been considered unthinkable. This book identifies the key opportunities and challenges for the chemical sciences, from basic research to societal needs and from terrorism defense to environmental protection, and it looks at the ways in which chemists and chemical engineers can work together to contribute to an improved future.
