Thus, if dilute sulphuric acid be added to a solution of barium chloride, a precipitate is obtained which, after washing and drying, consists of pure barium sulphate if our materials have been pure to start with. On the other hand, suppose that we are carrying out a simple organic reaction, such as the preparation of nitrobenzene by the action of nitric acid on benzene.
