Book Orders of a Quartic Field

Download or read book Orders of a Quartic Field written by Jin Nakagawa and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1996 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the author studies the Dirichlet series whose coefficients are the number of orders of a quartic field with given indices. Nakagawa gives an explicit expression of the Dirichlet series. Using this expression, its analytic properties are deduced. He also presents an asymptotic formula for the number of orders in a quartic field with index less than a given positive number.

  • ISBN : 3540438637
  • Pages : 526 pages

Download or read book Algorithmic Number Theory written by Claus Fieker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-06-26 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-organized criticality (SOC) has become a magic word in various scientific disciplines; it provides a framework for understanding complexity and scale invariance in systems showing irregular fluctuations. In the first 10 years after Per Bak and his co-workers presented their seminal idea, more than 2000 papers on this topic appeared. Seismology has been a field in earth sciences where the SOC concept has already deepened the understanding, but there seem to be much more examples in earth sciences where applying the SOC concept may be fruitful. After introducing the reader into the basics of fractals, chaos and SOC, the book presents established and new applications of SOC in earth sciences, namely earthquakes, forest fires, landslides and drainage networks.

Book The Equidistribution of Lattice Shapes of Rings of Integers of Cubic Quartic and Quintic Number Fields

Download or read book The Equidistribution of Lattice Shapes of Rings of Integers of Cubic Quartic and Quintic Number Fields written by Piper Harron and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2018-11-12 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to explain the author’s joint work with Manjul Bhargava in a fun and accessible way. On its face, the subject matter concerns properties of number fields, namely the shape (literally and mathematically) of their rings of integers. The result says essentially that the ring of integers of a random number field should not have any special symmetries when viewed as a lattice in real space. The proof requires a parametrization, a counting method, an understanding of conditions mod p, a way to isolate the things we actually want to count, and a volume calculation. This has all been presented to the experts in an eleven page paper. The real purpose of this book, then, is not to present the results and the proof, but to really attempt to explain not just the math but also the struggles, that go into the result.

Book Encyclopedia Of Cosmology The In 4 Volumes

Download or read book Encyclopedia Of Cosmology The In 4 Volumes written by Rennan Barkana and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-03-16 with total page 1402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Encyclopedia of Cosmology is a new and exciting project which will be a major, long-lasting, seminal reference (a set of four major volumes) at the graduate student level, laid out by the most prominent, respected researchers in the general field of Cosmology. These volumes will be a comprehensive review of the most important concepts and current status in the field of Cosmology of the Universe, covering both theory and observation. One of the most exciting parts of the encyclopedia is that it will exist in both print and, more importantly, electronic forms, perhaps even with some level of interactivity with material such as expanded explanations, movie clips, dynamic pictures, examples of on-line computation, etc. The electronic version will also reflect constant updates of the material. It will be a truly unique publication, unlike anything any of us have seen or known of in existence today. This comprehensive encyclopedia is edited by Dr. Giovanni Fazio from Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, with an advisory board comprised of renowned scientists: Lars Hernquist and Abraham Loeb (Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics), and Christopher McKee (UC Berkeley). Each volume is authored/edited by a specialist in the area: Galaxy Formation and Evolution written by Rennan Barkana (Tel Aviv University), Numerical Simulations in Cosmology edited by Kentaro Nagamine (Osaka University / University of Nevada), Dark Energy written by Shinji Tsujikawa (Tokyo University of Science), and Dark Matter written by Jihn Kim (Seoul National University).

Book Codes and Algebraic Curves

Download or read book Codes and Algebraic Curves written by Oliver Pretzel and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 1998-01-08 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The geometry of curves has fascinated mathematicians for 2500 years, and the theory has become highly abstract. Recently links have been made with the subject of error correction, leading to the creation of geometric Goppa codes, a new and important area of coding theory. This book is an updated and extended version of the last part of the successful book Error-Correcting Codes and Finite Fields. It provides an elementary introduction to Goppa codes, and includes many examples, calculations, and applications. The book is in two parts with an emphasis on motivation, and applications of the theory take precedence over proofs of theorems. The formal theory is, however, provided in the second part of the book, and several of the concepts and proofs have been simplified without sacrificing rigour.

Book The Story of Algebraic Numbers in the First Half of the 20th Century

Download or read book The Story of Algebraic Numbers in the First Half of the 20th Century written by Władysław Narkiewicz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-18 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is aimed at people working in number theory or at least interested in this part of mathematics. It presents the development of the theory of algebraic numbers up to the year 1950 and contains a rather complete bibliography of that period. The reader will get information about results obtained before 1950. It is hoped that this may be helpful in preventing rediscoveries of old results, and might also inspire the reader to look at the work done earlier, which may hide some ideas which could be applied in contemporary research.
