Book Optimal Trajectories in Atmospheric Flight

Download or read book Optimal Trajectories in Atmospheric Flight written by Nguyen Vinh and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal Trajectories in Atmospheric Flight deals with the optimization of trajectories in atmospheric flight. The book begins with a simple treatment of functional optimization followed by a discussion of switching theory. It then presents the derivation of the general equations of motion along with the basic knowledge in aerodynamics and propulsion necessary for the analysis of atmospheric flight trajectories. It goes on to the study of optimal trajectories by providing the general properties of the optimal aerodynamic controls and the integrals of motion. This is followed by discussions of high subsonic and supersonic flight, and approximation techniques to reduce the order of the problem for a fast computation of the optimal trajectory. The final chapters present analyses of optimal reentry trajectories and orbital maneuvers. This book is intended as a reference text for scientists and engineers wanting to get into the subject of optimal trajectories in atmospheric flight. If used for teaching purposes, the book is written in a self-contained way so that a selective use of the material is at the discretion of the lecturer. The first 11 chapters are sufficient for a one-semester course with emphasis on optimal maneuvers of high performance aircraft.

Book Optimal Lifting Re Entry by Reduced Order Approximation

Download or read book Optimal Lifting Re Entry by Reduced Order Approximation written by W. O'Dwyer and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A faster method for computing optimal three dimensional trajectories that maximize the landing footprint of a lifting re-entry vehicle has been developed. The method uses energy approximations based on the assumption that the flight path angle is small and the flight path angular rate is zero. Thus, the vertical component of lift is considered equal to the weight minus centrifugal relief, and the equation of motion are reduced in order from six to four. Because of this simplification, the classical indirect method of the calculus of variations is used to compute families of optimal solutions. Using data corresponding to one of the space shuttle configurations, computations have been carried out for both unconstrained trajectories and for solutions that have aerodynamic heating rates and lift coefficients limited to specified values. During the investigation, several interesting analytical finds were uncovered that could be used as a basis for an onboard guidance scheme. (Author).

Book Optimal Trajectories for Maneuvering Reentry Vehicles

Download or read book Optimal Trajectories for Maneuvering Reentry Vehicles written by Aditya Undurti and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many demanding aerospace missions today require maneuverable re-entry vehicles that can fly trajectories that have stringent path and terminal constraints, including those that cannot be written as drag or energy constraints. This work presents a method based on trajectory optimization techniques to assess the capabilities of the re-entry vehicle by computing the landing and re-entry footprints while meeting these conditions. The models used also account for important non-linear effects seen during hypersonic flight. Several different vehicles are studied, and the effects of parameters such the maximum G-loading, stagnation point heat rate, and the maximum L/D are analyzed.

Book Design of Trajectory Optimization Approach for Space Maneuver Vehicle Skip Entry Problems

Download or read book Design of Trajectory Optimization Approach for Space Maneuver Vehicle Skip Entry Problems written by Runqi Chai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-30 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the design of optimal trajectories for space maneuver vehicles (SMVs) using optimal control-based techniques. It begins with a comprehensive introduction to and overview of three main approaches to trajectory optimization, and subsequently focuses on the design of a novel hybrid optimization strategy that combines an initial guess generator with an improved gradient-based inner optimizer. Further, it highlights the development of multi-objective spacecraft trajectory optimization problems, with a particular focus on multi-objective transcription methods and multi-objective evolutionary algorithms. In its final sections, the book studies spacecraft flight scenarios with noise-perturbed dynamics and probabilistic constraints, and designs and validates new chance-constrained optimal control frameworks. The comprehensive and systematic treatment of practical issues in spacecraft trajectory optimization is one of the book’s major features, making it particularly suited for readers who are seeking practical solutions in spacecraft trajectory optimization. It offers a valuable asset for researchers, engineers, and graduate students in GNC systems, engineering optimization, applied optimal control theory, etc.
