Download or read book Advances in Thermal Energy Storage Systems written by Luisa F. Cabeza and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-10-31 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal energy storage (TES) technologies store thermal energy (both heat and cold) for later use as required, rather than at the time of production. They are therefore important counterparts to various intermittent renewable energy generation methods and also provide a way of valorising waste process heat and reducing the energy demand of buildings. This book provides an authoritative overview of this key area. Part one reviews sensible heat storage technologies. Part two covers latent and thermochemical heat storage respectively. The final section addresses applications in heating and energy systems. - Reviews sensible heat storage technologies, including the use of water, molten salts, concrete and boreholes - Describes latent heat storage systems and thermochemical heat storage - Includes information on the monitoring and control of thermal energy storage systems, and considers their applications in residential buildings, power plants and industry

Download or read book The Trade off Between Collector Area Storage Volume and Building Conservation in Annual Storage Solar Heating Systems written by Sanford Sillman and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective was to develop a comprehensive understanding of the performance of active solar heating systems with intermediate and annual-cycle storage. A daily-step computer simulation was used to determine the performance of solar heating systems as collector and storage size was varied. Simulations were performed for systems in four cities in the U.S.: Boston, MA; Medford, OR; Bismarck, ND; and Albuquerque, NM. The study assumed various building load types and includes both flat-plate and evacuated-tube collectors at different tilt angles, and single-tank and two-tank systems. A unique feature of this study was the investigation of systems used to provide backup heat for passive solar and energy-conserving buildings and to meet standard building loads.

Download or read book Active Solar Systems written by George O. G. Löf and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 998 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Active Solar Systems is volume 6 in a series that surveys advances in solar energy research since the oil shock of the early 1970s. Books in the series document in particular the period 1973 to 1985, which spawned a rich array of federally financed technological programs and developments facilitating the practical use of solar energy. The twenty-two contributions in Active Solar Systems introduce design, analysis, and control methods for active systems and cover advances in the interconnected technologies for water heating, space heating, and space cooling. They show that, with effective marketing and with environmental costs factored into individual consumer decisions, there is strong potential for solar water heating and space heating, and that solar cooling has potential but needs further development to become commercially viable. The details of the materials involved in these technologies are covered in volume 5, Solar Collectors, Energy Storage, and Materials.

Download or read book Clean and Safe Energy Forever written by T. Horigome and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 926 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings include papers on all aspects of solar energy. The 1989 conference had a special emphasis on photovoltaics, reflecting Japanese expertise in that field. As in previous conferences, the largest category of papers concerned solar thermal applications. There was also a great deal of interest in the vital issues raised concerning solar energy and developing countries. The keynote paper, on global environment and solar energy, was presented by Professor Z Uchijima.
Download or read book Understanding Renewable Energy Systems written by Volker Quaschning and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-31 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By mid-century, renewable energy must cover all of our energy supply if we are to phase out nuclear and successfully stop climate change. Now updated and expanded, the 2nd edition of this textbook covers the full range of renewable energy systems and now also includes such current trends as solar power storage, power-to-gas technologies, and the technology paths needed for a successful and complete energy transition. The topics are treated in a holistic manner, bringing together maths, engineering, climate studies and economics, and enabling readers to gain a broad understanding of renewable energy technologies and their potential.Numerous examples are provided for calculations, and graphics help visualize the various technologies and mathematical methodologies. Understanding Renewable Energy Systems is an ideal companion for students of renewable energy at universities or technical colleges on courses such as renewable energy, electrical engineering, engineering technology, physics, process engineering, building engineering, environment, applied mechanics and mechanical engineering, as well as scientists and engineers in research and industry.
